Tune into the universal nature of your being and connect with your own deepest experience through movement practices of yoga, pranayama, yoga Nidra and meditation. The retreat is an introduction to some of the ancient philosophies of Hatha yoga and Tantra.
The accommodation will be in one of the lovely eco yurts. The Yoga Holidays Portugal guests are always very pleasantly surprised by just how comfortable everything is, (despite being ecofriendly) and how well the system for water heating, electricity and heating the yurts in the cooler months works.
All yurts and the bell tent have electricity, solar reading lamps, shelving and some storage space, carpets and rugs. All the beds have mosquito nets.
Bathrooms and toilets are shared by a maximum of five guests. As they are living sustainably, the bathrooms have solar heated hot water and eco-composting toilets. The bathrooms and toilets are built in a modern style using wood from their land; they are clean, comfortable and totally green!
With the theme of Shakti, the powerful creative life force, the week will approach asana and yoga practice through exploration of the elements, the qualities of earth, water, air, fire and ether.
Mornings will be Dynamic Vinyasa yoga classes, exploring the postures of Hatha yoga in a flow (Vinyasa), and more intuitive and movement oriented ways. Fiona will be guiding you to explore and develop your own practice by directing you back towards your own deepest exeriences.
Afternoon sessions will introduce some of the concepts and foundations of yoga, in a practice environment. The eight limbs of Hatha yoga, the ancient traditions of Tantra and goddess worship, the concept of Shakti, and the practices which can be helpful for you today. You will explore yoga Nidra, chanting, meditation, and breathing together.
The week will close around the fire with music, local wine and a hot tub under the stars.

Fiona is a mother of three and lives on site in Portugal, facilitating and teaching on retreats. She was introduced to yoga as a teenager in secondary school, Australia. Fiona completed formal training to teach in 2009 at Byron Yoga Centre, Australia and teaches classes locally in Portugal. She teaches a breathing practice and slower asana with more focus on alignment and deep release. Fiona incorporates Vini yoga (the therapeutic aspects of yoga) into her teaching and offers private classes for specific health issues. She has also completed training to teach both pre-natal and post-natal yoga.
The retreat will take place in Ribeira Relvas, Oleiros, Central Portugal.

The food prepared and served is tasty and wholesome vegetarian and vegan food. They use vegetables from their own organic garden and then locally sourced fruit and vegetables. They spend a lot of time and care preparing the food for the guests, and they get really great feedback. The food served is approximately 80 percent vegan, and 30-40 percent raw.
Breakfast is self-service with seasonal fruits, a selection of cereals and toasted sourdough and local corn bread, accompanied by homemade jam or marmalade. A selection of tea (green, black and herbal) and coffee is available throughout the day.
Lunches are fresh garden salads, grain salads, falafel or Spanish omellete. Usually served with a variety of raw dips, nut pates, or hummus.
Evening meals include a variety of curries with biryani rice or coconut rice, vegetable noodles with stir-fried tofu and vegetables, moussaka and salad, spiced potatoes with honey aubergine and couscous. The resort is also growing goats, which enables them to produce their own cheese.
The property is surrounded by woods, with many tracks and beautiful old abandoned houses and buildings. It is also close to the reservoir, and the village. There are many forest tracks to explore and spend time walking in the woods.
There is a selection of local therapists available to provide treatments for our guests, depending on the retreat week. Often the yoga teachers offer various treatments. Jo Tison offers Reiki and Thai massage. Blanche Mulholland offers Shiatsu. Local therapist Aoife Carter specializes in myofascial release and other techniques to work with issues within the body, or recovery from injury and trauma.
The resort is located a 10-15 minuntes walk from the Cabril reservoir. It is also close to several local wild swimming locations for guests with cars.
Guests often enjoy a walk to the local village, where there are two cafes and small shops selling snacks, drinks, ice cream etc.

In Lisbon, you can catch a bus or taxi from the airport to Sete Rios bus station.
The bus from Lisbon is at 13:45, arriving in Pedrogao Grande at 19:30.
The bus from Porto is at 17:00, arriving in Pedrogao Grande at 19:30.
Please plan your flights accordingly.
Buses leave Pedrogao Grande on Saturday morning at 07:45 and 09:00 - this gives guests plenty of time for their connecting flights home, if travelling on the same day. Please note that the retreat price includes transfer from Pedrogao Grande upon arrival. Some guests may have to take a taxi back to the bus on the Saturday; a taxi costs 18 EUR.
