Join the perfect yoga retreat specifically tailored for families that would like to practice yoga, but also explore the beautiful surroundings that east Algarve, Portugal has to offer. The children's practices will be led by a yoga teacher who holds regular classes for kids of all age groups. Children’s classes will be at the same time as the adult classes, giving the adults the opportunity to concentrate on their practice, which will be taught by experienced yoga teachers.
The accommodation comprises of an old quinta set in the peaceful countryside. There are lovely gardens and areas in which you can relax. All the apartments are spacious with enough room for the children to sleep in a bed. All the apartments are en suite and have a fully equipped kitchen for those who want to prepare their own meals or snacks. There is also barbecue area. The gorgeous weather of the Algarve means on most days you can practice outdoors surrounded by beautiful country with views of the sea on the horizon. There is a beautiful yoga platform in the orchard, shaded with colorful sails.
The Butterfly House encourages both kids and parents to benefit from yoga practice. There is a variety of superb teachers who can share their knowledge and experience with you. The adults will be taught by Yoga Holiday Algarve's experienced yoga teachers while the children will be simultaneously taught by a dedicated kids yoga teacher. Her imaginative approach gives the kids a good grounding and hopefully will make them enjoy the gift of yoga for life. During your free time, enjoy our extensive grounds, orchards, and communal areas. There is also plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful beaches, surrounding countryside and historic old towns nearby.
Kirteen started practising yoga at home and with friends and going to regular classes and happily made more and more space in her life, seeing it as a reliable friend to help her through the ups and downs, twists and turns of life. Her classes can be dynamic flowing or slow flow, focussing on finding the meditative quality of free flowing breath and movement combined, followed by deep relaxation.
Teresa was born and raised in the Algarve and the desire to know more about life and the human dimension brought her in touch with yoga, the Indian philosophical system. Teresa's teaching method explores the different yoga techniques. She works with the asanas, pranayama, yoga nidra and dharana to develope an integral consciousness of the whole being, enabling her yoga practice to work with the physical, gross aspect, to the most subtle aspects of your personality, mind, and emotions.
Nicole is an experienced leader in children's activities. She has many years of training and experience in theater, theater for children, experimental theater, improvisation theater, creative dance and corporal expression. She has developed children's activities that bring yoga and art together, yoga and drawing or painting, yoga and movement, coloring mandalas, yoga and stories, and yoga and dramatic expression.

Marlene started her path in yoga, 20 years ago. During this time, she always kept the practice of yoga as her daily routine, as well as attending different styles of yoga classes in Portugal and in different places in Europe. In 2012, Marlene traveled to India searching for deeper knowledge and experience in yoga, and became a yoga teacher, certified by Yoga Vidya (AyurYoga) in Kerala (Yoga - YTT / YogaAlliance RYS 200) and by Paramanand Institute of Yoga Science & Research, in Indore - YTT (YogaAlliance RYS 300) plus Yoga Therapy – IAYT (International Association of Yoga Therapists).
As a seeker, the human pursuit for self-knowledge led Carolina to stumble across yoga. Since then, the eight fold path of yoga has naturally become her sadhana, an important part of her daily routine. The first steps towards this Vedic science of self-realization, put her in contact with Ayurveda. It was love at first sight and she absorbed both disciplines, which are interdependent and powered when associated. As a yoga teacher, she explored many traditions and different practices over the years, but took refuge in Satyananda’s teachings, following the lineage of Bihar School of Yoga.
The Butterfly House is located in the Algarve, in southern Portugal. The surrounding countryside is bursting with life. For most of the year, wild flowers provide a colorful background and the air is scented with orange blossom and wild herbs. The local beach of Fuzeta is popular for stand up paddle boarding (SUP) and kite surfing. The beautiful islands of Culatra, Armona, and Farol are all accessible by ferry from the historic fishing town of Olhao, just five minutes away from the yoga center by car.

Butterfly House understands that a family would want to take advantage of the beautiful local beaches and the wide variety of activities on offer. Therefore, only breakfast will be provided, giving you the opportunity to eat out for lunch or to make a picnic in your self-catering facilities. There is also delicious vegetarian dinners available with 24 hours notice that can be taken in your self catering apartment. The meals uses seasonal ingredients sourced from local markets.
The nourishing and delicious vegetarian meals ensures that your diet works in harmony with yoga. A healthy balanced vegetarian diet is essential to a happy yoga practice. The food is lovingly prepared from seasonal ingredients which are locally sourced from nearby markets.

Ayurvedic medicine is a holistic healing system that originates from the Indian sub-continent. It utilizes a variety of methods to balance, relax and rejuvenate. The Butterfly House is fortunate to have an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner. After an initial consultation, the practitioner is able to offer a variety of massages and treatments tailored to meet your needs, whether you need to address a specific issue or to unwind with a therapeutic massage. The treatments can be bought individually or, for maximum benefit, as a series of treatments across the week.
We also offer Thai Yoga massage, which works well with the yoga lessons and has been studied extensively by our therapist in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Traditional Thai Yoga massage is a therapeutic practice with its origins in Yoga, Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine.It consists on a rhythmic, flowing massage, which includes a series of stretches and yoga postures associated with acupressure techniques, applied with the palms, thumbs, elbows, forearms, knees and feet, crossing points and energy lines of the body. The combination of these techniques help to unlock physical and energetic blockages, relieving pain and tensions, rebalancing posture and body alignment, restoring the natural flow of vital and self-healing energy .
