Accommodation is in rustic little hideway rooms nestled in the native bush. Accommodation is shared with another participant; for an additional charge, a single room may be available.


The retreat will encompass three classes a day, a mixture of yoga asana, meditation, and philosophy. Retreat participants will be encouraged to be mindful throughout the weekend to immerse themselves deeply in their practice, and have some quality time-out for themselves. Massages will also be available for those that would like.

What does it mean to go on retreat? Many of us have many responsibilities and routines that we roll through, day after day, year after year. Because of the pace of life sometimes we can get numbed to the small, special, ordinary moments. Our days become a blur of doing. A retreat offers an opportunity to re-create space. Space in the rush from one activity to the next, space in between our thoughts, and more space and ease in our bodies. At a retreat, everyone is taken out of their routine. The daily practice of yoga and meditation helps establish a different vantage point. A vantage point that is more integrative with our environment and at the same time more connected to ourselves and how we feel. Retreats are indeed indulging. A treat we all deserve.

The yoga asana and meditation approach

Participants are required to attend all sessions during the retreat. The yoga asana practices offered will be suitable for all. Susan has over 20 years of experience and is very skilled at adapting the practice to suit all levels. There will be two asana practices per day. One more energetic vinyasa flow and one that will help us explore more our subtle patterns of movement on the body and mind.

The day will also include two meditation sessions, an opportunity for you to either embark on a meditation practice for yourself or to move deeper into your existing practice. Meditation encourages an inner connection and a deepening of relationship with ourselves, within the space of the retreat this is the perfect combination. We will also explore mindfulness practices that connect us with our environment. On the retreat, we will explore both directions, the inner and the outer. Deepening our sensitivity to the space with-in and space with-out.

Day 1

  • Guests arrive from 3 p.m. onwards. Check-in is available to your room anytime from 3 p.m. Feel free to then look around the grounds and center and settle in.
  • 15:00 Asana, meditation, relaxation, and general arriving practice.
  • 18:00 Dinner
  • 19:30 Opening circle

Days 2, 3, and 4

07:30 - 09:00 Morning asana (yoga postures) and meditation session

The Octagon, which is our practice space will have been pre-heated with the ample and cozy wood-burner. In this morning practice, we will explore a more dynamic practice to wake the body and clear the mind. Followed by our first meditation session of the day.

  • 09:00 Breakfast consisting of local fruits, homemade muesli, porridge, toast, an array of teas and plunger coffees.
  • 09:30 - 11:30 Free time to go bushwalking, resting, reading, or simply being.
  • 11:30 - 13:00 Midday asana and meditation practice. More of a gentler asana practice where the emphasis is on breath and awareness. Also followed by a meditation practice where we continue to work on the meditation theme of the day.
  • 13:00 Lunch consisting of all the magic that guests talk about long after they leave. Vegetarian, mostly grown on-site organic food. Salads, curries, soups, and lots of unexpected delights cooked with love.
  • 14:00 - 16:30 Free time
  • 16:30 - 17:30 Meditation discussion and practice. This session is an opportunity to deepen your understanding about what meditation is and how it’s useful for you. Susan has over 20years of meditation teaching experience. A great opportunity to ask questions and to refine or begin your practice.
  • 18:00 Dinner; often fresh soups and salads followed by a delicious dessert
  • 19:30 - 20:30 Evening session. Different each night - relaxation Yoga Nidra practice, dhamma mindfulness discussion. or Sanctuary hilltop visit

Day 5

  • 07.30 - 09.30 Final practice session. Wrapping it all together
  • 09:30 Breakfast
  • 11:00 Closing circle. An opportunity to connect as a group to say our goodbyes.
  • 12:00 Check out of rooms. Lunch for those who would like to stay.

Retreat location

This retreat will be held in Mana, retreat centre in the Coromandel, New Zealand. The retreat centre of Mana is set on a huge tract of land on the western side of the Coromandel peninsula. Native bush covers the land in a blanket of quiet calm. Little bush trails trace their way between the accommodations and the different buildings on the property. The trails and the birdsong will lead you on a little adventure up to the mountain summit where a large crystal embedded in the rock looks out to the islands beyond. The feeling is at the same time of space as well as of being held.

The sanctuary, the crowning glory of Mana, is a temple that stands at the top of the mountain. Built by the founders of Mana many years ago this space is available for you to enjoy anytime. A moonlight visit to the sanctuary is a journey to remember. The octagon is Yoga Ground's main practice room. Warmed by an abundant fireplace this spacious room also looks out over the islands. Being a dedicated practice space it holds the energy and steadiness that supports the practice.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

You should fly into Auckland Airport (AKL). A shuttle can be arranged from the airport to the retreat center. The cost will depend on the number of people. Cost starts at 130 NZD for the two-hour one-way journey to the Coromandel. Another option is to catch the airport bus to Auckland city where car share can be arranged with other participants.

Arrival by ferry

Another option is to get a ferry from Auckland to Coromandel where the Mana staff can pick you up.

  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
