Lake Hawea View, a unique and stunning 25 acre property, sits crested above candescent Lake Hawea, deep in the Southern Alps of New Zealand. The properties out-look is the epitome of dramatic and breath taking landscapes.

The large stone and cedar clad homestead is architecturally crafted to capture both lake and mountain vistas from the kitchen, dining and outdoor living areas. Staying at this special retreat will be an unforgettable experience for you.

Lake Hawea View boasts a gorgeous open-plan living area with state-of-the-art facilities and a beautiful stacked stone fireplace indoors and out. Vast sliding cedar doors lead out from the dining room to immaculate lawns, the barbecue and hot pool area, over-looking the lake and mountains.

Nestle in the comfort of luxurious leather lounge suites and soft furnishings or relax in the afternoon sun by sinking into the elevated day bed. Large granite bench tops span the main kitchen area with state of the art facilities and built in espresso machine. Enjoy a traditional Swedish sauna that seats up to six people. Accommodation is available in shared or private rooms.

Program

All retreats have a similar daily schedule; plenty of time for yoga and meditation as well as time off to rest, hike, read or relax.

Day of arrival

  • 15:00 Guests arrive from 3:00 p.m. onwards. Check-in is available to your room anytime from 3:00 p.m. onwards. Feel free to then look around the grounds and centre and settle in.
  • 16:00 Asana, meditation, relaxation and general arriving practice
  • 18:00 Dinner
  • 19:30 Opening circle

Daily schedule of full days

  • 07:30 - 09:00 Morning asana (yoga postures) and meditation session. The Octagon, which is your practice space, will have been pre-heated with the ample and cosy wood-burner. In this morning practice you will explore a more dynamic practice to wake the body and clear the mind. Followed by your first meditation session of the day.
  • 09:00 Breakfast
  • 09:30 - 11:30 Free time to go bush walking, resting, reading, or simply being
  • 11:30 - 13:00 Midday asana and meditation practice - more of a gentler asana practice where the emphasis is on breath and awareness. Also followed by a meditation practice where you continue to work on the meditation theme of the day.
  • 13:00 Lunch
  • 14:00 - 16:30 Free time
  • 16:30 - 18:00 Meditation discussion and practice. This session is an opportunity to deepen your understanding about what meditation is and how it’s useful for you. Susan has over 20 years meditation teaching experience. A great opportunity to ask questions and to refine or begin your practice.
  • 18:00 Dinner
  • 19:30 - 20:30 Evening session. Different each night - relaxation Yoga Nidra practice, dhamma mindfulness discussion

Final day

  • 07:30 - 09:30 Final practice session. Wrapping it all together
  • 09:30 Breakfast
  • 11:00 Closing circle. An opportunity to connect as a group to say your goodbyes.

This yoga and meditation retreat will be held at the Lake Hawea View overlooking the dramatic landscape of Lake Hawea in the Southern Lakes. Hawea is 15 minutes from Wanaka, and one-hour drive from Queenstown, South Island, New Zealand.

A setting like no other, this truly unique and authentically hand-crafted homestead sits high above the crystal-clear blue waters of pristine Lake Hawea. Every detail of the property is interlaced with heart and soul. Use of natural and recycled materials such as limestone and old railway beams gift a wholesome, earthy and grounding vitality.

Within minutes drive, participants can explore river and lake swims in these pristine waters. There are many walking tracks into the mountains that offer dramatic views and a great day out. There will be time between yoga and meditation practices to enjoy these for those that wish.

Food

A local, health focused chef will be providing your nourishment for the weekend. With a background in herbal medicine and traditional cheffing, Evelyn will be plating up nutrient dense, seasonal delights that feed your mind, body and soul.

She incorporates probiotic elements, local herbs, flowers and produce to expose you to a diverse range of vitamins and minerals which builds your body’s resiliency to illness plus tastes delicious!

The menu is constructed as gluten free and vegetarian with dairy as optional and your mornings will start with a choice of medicinal mushroom coffee, tonics or a range of herbal teas.

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Queenstown Airport (ZQN). Transfers from and to the airport is not included in the price. Ritchies operate a shuttle from Queenstown Airport (ZQN) to Wanaka. Yoga Ground can arrange free shuttle to the retreat center which is 15 minutes drive from Wanaka town.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 35% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid 25 days before arrival.
