Ashtanga and Ayurveda Yoga Retreat in Kerala

Yoga Escape invites you to come and relax in a place quite magical, Big Banana Island Retreat, which has a soothing and tropical nature. Near a river, the center of yoga and meditation is located in Kerala, about 25 km from Cochin. You will be welcomed as if you were a full member of the family of this Indian village, which is the perfect setting for an exceptional yoga retreat: Ashtanga Yoga and Ayurveda.

Deepen your yoga knowledge

It aims to help you discover the Yoga of Guru Pattabhi Jois (asanas, kriyas, pranayama, meditation and yoga sutras) or deepen your "ashtanga practice" and its transformative effects on the body and mind. Meanwhile, this retreat is an opportunity for you to study the correlation between these two ancient sciences Yoga (Vedic Science of Self-realization) and Ayurveda (Vedic Science of healing the body and mind).

Yoga meets Ayurveda

You will stay in cottages tastefully decorated in simple comfort. In addition to yoga classes, you will be able to enjoy Ayurvedic treatments in the purest tradition (Abhyangam, Steam Bath, Podikhizi, Elakikizhi, Lepanam).

"The Yoga Escape retreat I attended in Greece was not at all what it was advertised to be. It was not a retreat as much as it was yoga classes twice a day. The organizer was very unhelpful. After he received my payment he did not answer any of my emails or give me any information about the retreat. The photos on his webpage are of a retreat from last year.I was made to think that the only way I could attend was to stay at the Pyrgaki hotel (100 EUR/night). I was under the impression everyone in the retreat was staying there and was never given any other option. Everyone was staying in different hotels. I didn't get much of a chance to get to know the others in my retreat. My hotel was 5 kilometers from the Shala and I needed to take a shuttle bus to get there. The hotel was also far from the town center so I was in the middle of nowhere. There were tons of cheaper nice hotels close to the Shala. I don't know why I was never offered these as options. On the day of my arrival I was informed by Laurent of an additional 60 EUR charge for transfer to and from the Shala. This was he first time I realized the Shala and hotel were not in close proximity. I discovered later that this was not required to be paid.I would not recommend this. The yoga instructor, Stefan, did a good job. However, the instruction was all in French (another thing that Laurent never informed me of). It was a stressful week and a waste of my money." website, edited

"There were a number of points about Yoga Escape which were excellent. The food was great and the staff were lovely and friendly. The yoga was great; it was good to have 2 different types of yoga including learning to do foot massage. It was 2 glorious weeks. I wished I had booked another week there. What a lovely Island Paros is - beautiful beaches - pretty villages, and towns - lovely walks. Fortunately, there is no airport at present which stops the island from becoming spoilt by too much tourism. However, there was one issue - having booked a room with a sea view for 2 weeks - which I did not get - the hotel said that a sea view room hadn't been booked for me - it was booked via Laurent who I gather let a few guests down including myself. That was the only disappointment. All in all, It was a lovely retreat; lovely hotel and location." website, edited

"The teacher, Sabine is not only very experienced in yoga practice, but she is also a very warm, gentle and marvelous person. Specially in my group, I found wonderful people who know the importance of integrating yoga in our daily lives and sharing their knowledge with others. The surrounding landscape was amazing. You could see the boats as they were approaching Parikia's harbor. I enjoyed this yoga retreat so much (it was also very well organized), and if I have the chance, I would like to repeat it." website, edited
