Hawaii Island Retreat & Eco-Boutique hotel offers twenty elegant suites and yurt bungalows. The suites are color matched and named for the large, antique Saxon prints of tropical flowers. Each suite has a spacious bathroom with a large soaking tub and separate shower. These spacious suites are 375 - 450 square feet and decorated with turn-of -the-century-Hawaii furniture. All suites have private balconies and chairs, overlooking the fragrant garden as well as ocean. The yurt bungalows have valley or garden views.

Hawaii Island Retreat's Hawaiian yurts offer a unique alternative to the elegant boutique hotel for individuals and groups seeking greater simplicity and economy. Nestled within a needled ironwood grove, the yurt village is adjacent to the Hawaiian eco-spa complex and features seven spacious yurt bungalows, perfect for couples or shared living during private retreats.

Yurt Village guests have easy access to the spa's massage bungalows, movement room, and infinity pool. Meals are served in the main hotel, where guests can also enjoy our fragrant gardens, open-air living room, theater room, and library.

Program

Students explore concepts from ayurveda, the upanishads, patanjali and the chakra system as frameworks for the application of yoga as a journey towards radiant health and wellbeing. The asana emphasis includes both level one and two alignment based vinyasa flow sequencing as well as gentler and restorative variations.

Rather than offer standard sequencing or rigid methodologies, students are exposed to frameworks that inspire each trainee to adapt the practices, awaken their creativity and find their own authentic voice as a teacher. Graduates of this program feel empowered to teach a variety of yoga class types, including: all levels vinyasa yoga, alignment-based classes, yoga foundations, senior, gentle, and restorative.

There is one full day off throughout the program.

Retreat location

Hawaii Island Retreat Center is an eco-friendly purpose-built retreat center in Kohala, on the Big Island of Hawaii, that features a boutique hotel fashioned after 19th century Hawaiian palaces. There is a lovely courtyard, view of the ocean, salt-water swimming pool, hot tub, walking trails, beach access, and on-site spa treatments. The facility is located on 50-acres and produces its own wind-generated electricity (wind-generated) and organic food.

Food

Hawaii Island Retreat’s organic gardens and orchards are a living tribute to the Big Island's bounty of exotic vegetables and fruits. Hawaii Island Retreat grows the foods used in the hotel kitchen, from salad greens to lychee and sunrise papaya. It is elegant green travel at it's best. The garden-side dining room opens onto fragrant plantings. Here you will enjoy organic farm-to-table cuisine, as well as seafood fresh from Hawaiian waters. You will find our Hawaiian spa cuisine menu rich with local accents, whole-grain breads, Pacific Rim dishes, and international menus.

Hawaii Island Retreat's chefs are brilliant in the kitchen. When they are not out gathering herbs for an appetizer dish, they are about the region sampling local dishes for new menu ideas. Join them for a spa cooking class or afternoon in the gardens.
