You will stay at a 300-year old olive farm, in the coastal town of Altea, an hour north of Alicante. The farm has been owned by the same Spanish family for generations before the current family decided to convert the abandoned farm into a four-star country house hotel with 22 spacious en-suite double bedrooms, a pool, gym, and sauna, perfect for any aching muscles.

There is an on-site restaurant and yoga studio with great views. All bedrooms are superbly equipped with satellite television, telephone, heating, air-conditioning, a safety deposit, free Wi-Fi, mini-bar, hair dryer, fluffy toweling robes, complimentary toiletries, and a daily maid service. The hotel sits in a perfect location, being just a 10-minute easy walk away from the nearby, very pretty town of Altea and a 25 minutes walk away from the sea, but still sitting in a rural position with tranquil views across the countryside.

All solo guests are given their own double room for single use, as Yoga Breaks don’t ask you to share unless you want to bring a friend to share with.

Program

Overview

Begin each day with a cup of herbal tea and fruit whilst you slowly awaken. At 8:30 a.m., it’s time to open your body and senses to the day with a 90-minute yoga session. You are then ready for some nourishment from the buffet table. Then, depending on the day, you could be:

  • Setting off on a guided 14 kilometers coast and country hike
  • Heading to the mountains for a guided hike with a picnic lunch
  • Striding out with maps on a self guided coastal hike to the neighboring town
  • Taking part in the optional guided bike ride or aerial yoga workshop
  • Enjoying some pampering with the therapy team (massages, facials, reflexology, Reiki, and more)
  • Or, simply relax by the pool, curl up with a book, take a snooze, use the sauna or gym

In the late afternoon, you will regroup for another yoga session to unwind from the day, before supper. There is no yoga on Sunday morning as you will set off early, after breakfast, for the mountain hike. On return to the hotel, there’s time to rest before a meditation workshop.

Yoga and hiking together make a super healthy combo. With hiking in the great outdoors giving a boost to the heart and lungs and soothing yoga to ease away knots and tension from the entire body, this holiday is the perfect getaway.

You'll be on your yoga mats twice a day, learning from super experienced, caring teachers. You'll be taken through thoroughly enjoyable and innovative yoga sessions, using a blend of Hatha, Vinyasa flow, and restorative yoga postures to open, lengthen, and strengthen your body beautifully. Yoga sessions are suitable for keen beginners, intermediate, and advanced yogis. So, expect to hear plenty of alignment cues and teaching tips to help deepen your practice.

The twice daily yoga sessions will complement the hikes with a combination of Hatha yoga to open your body with long held stretches and Vinyasa yoga to warm and energize, combined with relaxing and restorative Yin yoga.

Morning sessions focus on simple flowing Vinyasa sequences, synchronizing breath with movement so that your practice becomes like a calm, flowing meditation. Evening classes are a little slower, where you’ll hold postures a little longer, using the breath to move deeper within and reconnect with your inner peace.

Yoga Breaks' teaching style is precise but relaxed. There’s no ego involved, nor pressure to create the perfect yoga postures. You’ve all come to yoga with different bodies and different abilities and so, what’s more important is that you pay attention to how the yoga feels inside your body. It doesn’t matter what other people are doing around you, just work with what you have. Be patient, keep practicing, and your body will open up and let you back in.

In addition to the twice daily yoga sessions, there will be some fabulous nature hikes, too. On your first morning, there's a 14 kilometers coast and country easy walk and then, two days into the program, you'll head up into the mountains for a great hike on one of Yoga Breaks' favorite routes around the second highest mountain peak on the coast, where you'll see the most amazing far reaching views.

Your first hike is a great way to get your bearings. It’s an easy 14 kilometers route in the quiet countryside, close to the hotel. You will be passing crops of oranges, lemons, olives, figs, and avocados as you follow the Algar River on its way towards the sea, before a short stroll along Altea promenade on your way back to the hotel. This is a great opportunity to stretch your legs and get to know everyone.

Your second hike is inland, in the stunning Costa Blanca mountains. You’ll be taken on one of Yoga Breakes' favorite hikes, where you will enjoy stunning, far reaching views. You’ll be out for a good four to five hours and so, you’ll take a picnic lunch to be enjoyed alfresco on the mountain. This hike is classed as moderate to challenging in places. And, as there will be moments of walking along a mountain path and patches of loose scree, this hike may not be suitable for those with vertigo or mobility issues.

For those wanting more walks, there will also be the chance to head out for a 17 kilometers easy walk along the beautiful blue sea, to the neighboring town and its lighthouse. This walk will be self-guided, using maps provided by Yoga Breaks. All walks are optional.

Yoga Breaks like their holidays to be super relaxed, so if you want to skip a yoga class or miss a hike, please do. They just want you to listen to your body and do what it needs.

Nicole qualified as a yoga teacher with an "Excellent" grade diploma after a two-year yoga training course with FRYOG (Friends of Yoga International) and has since gone on to train with some of the yoga famous - and not so famous but equally fabulous teachers - including Shiva Rea, Liz Lark, Godfri Devereus, and Claire Missingham.

This yoga holiday will take place near the sea, in the charming town of Altea, an hour from Alicante International Airport (ALC). Altea lies on the Mediterranean Sea, close to stunning mountains and with a beautiful old town with cobbled streets, white washed houses, alfresco restaurants, and little boutiques to explore during your free time.

This is the Costa Blanca region of Spain, known for its Moorish influence, quiet mountain villages, spectacular scenery, exceptional beaches, and an abundance of underground springs giving life to lush Mediterranean fruits and vegetables.

You’ll have fresh fruits and herbal teas each morning to help you slowly awaken before yoga and then, after yoga, there’s a lovely, large buffet brunch of fruits, wholesome cereals, Spanish tortilla, yogurts, eggs, local tomatoes, Spanish cheeses and cold cuts, fresh juice, assorted breads, pastries, preserves, and homemade breakfast cake. Gluten free and dairy free options are always available, too. Local fish is offered sometimes for those who would like it.

Suppers at the hotel are healthy and delicious, with three-course plant based meals using locally sourced seasonal produce. A plant based diet is associated with a higher intake of essential vitamins, minerals, anti oxidants, and phytochemicals, which often results in feeling lighter and more energized and improved sleep.

You will dine at the hotel on all but two evenings when your taste buds are free to explore local restaurants. On one of these free evenings, Yoga Breaks will organize a meal at a local restaurant, which you are most welcome to join if you like.

Or, just head to the pool and laze in the sunshine or venture into town and wander Altea’s little streets.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Alicante International Airport (ALC). Transfer from and to this airport is available upon request for the additional cost of 40 EUR each way. Yoga Breaks offer a private transfer service from and to this airport. The meeting on arrival will be between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Upon departure, you will be transferred during the midday.

Please ensure your flight arrives no later than 12:15 p.m. on arrival day and departs no earlier than 1:30 p.m. on departure day to allow time to clear customs and collect your luggage.

Flights arriving outside of the transfer times can be accommodated with a private taxi or public transport. Please send an inquiry to Yoga Breaks for more details.

Arrival by bus

If you would like to travel with the locals, there is a resort hopper service that operates from Alicante International Airport (ALC) at regular times throughout the day. The drop off point in Altea (the yoga town) is a 10-minute cab ride to the yoga hotel. Journey times can be up to one and half hours due to stops en-route. The cost is between 30-35 EUR, dependent on location. Please send an inquiry to Yoga Breaks for more details.

Arrival by train

If you wish to catch the train, first, you will need to take a cab to the north end of Alicante harbor where you will find the FGV (Ferrocarril de la Generalitat Valenciana) train service calling at Altea. The train journey takes approximately two and a half hours from Alicante center. The train runs about every 30 minutes and costs between 25-35 EUR each way.

Do not make your way to Alicante central train station. This is only for high speed trains to central Spanish cities, not the coastal towns. Please send an inquiry to Yoga Breaks for more details about this option.
