You will stay at a gorgeous, little boutique hotel, in the historic old town of Denia. The hotel’s 18 double rooms are beautifully decorated and are all equipped with private en-suite bathrooms. The hotel was once a grand family home owned by a wealthy raisin merchant, before being lovingly converted by the current Spanish owners into this stylish hotel.

The owners are an incredibly creative couple - artists, photographers, Ayurvedic chefs, and interior designers - using their creativity and design skills to create a calming energy throughout the house. Each of the 18 bedrooms is beautifully styled and decorated with works of art, beautiful furniture, quality linens, and painted in soft, soothing colors to attract the Mediterranean light.

All rooms are lovely and uniquely furnished, with a choice of standard or superior options. The standard rooms tend to be slightly smaller and more simply furnished than the superior rooms. All rooms have either twin or double beds, hot and cold air-conditioning, hair dryer, safety deposit, fresh towels, a daily maid service, complimentary toiletries, and Wi-Fi.

There are also a couple of larger suites suitable for groups of up to four persons, if you'd like to share with your friends. However, if you are coming on your own, you will be given your own en-suite double room (your choice of standard or superior), as Yoga Breaks never ask nor expect solo guests to share with other guests.

Program

Overview

Begin each day slowly as you awaken with fresh fruits and a herbal tea. Then, at 8:30 a.m., head to the tranquil courtyard to open your body and senses to the day with a 90-minute morning yoga practice. Feeling awake, now it's time to fill your belly with a healthy buffet brunch of seasonal fruits, wholesome cereals, egg dishes, yogurts (including dairy free options), Spanish cheeses and cold cuts, smoothies, assorted breads, juices, and teas.

In between the yoga classes, there'll be a variety of optional discovery activities for you to join in, if you wish, or maybe you'd like to head to the beach, explore the town and its little boutiques, or just sit with the locals and enjoy a cafe con leche in the sunshine.

In the late afternoon, you will gather again for another yoga class to unwind from the day, before a delicious vegetarian supper. You will dine at the hotel on all but two evenings, when your taste buds are free to explore the excellent local dining.

What to expect

Whilst the majority of the 11 guests come on their own, there are also friends and siblings traveling together, too, so there are always lots of interesting chats over brunch and dinner. However, solo-time is important for your well-being, and so Yoga Breaks in Spain leave space each day for you to do exactly what you want, whether that's heading to the beach, taking a siesta, losing yourself in a good book, or wandering around the little boutiques and superb tapas bars nearby.

Yoga is practiced twice a day in the hotel's courtyard garden open to blue skies, fresh air, and bird songs above. The 90-minute classes are carefully planned and suitable for practitioners starting from keen beginners to the super flexible yogi.

Yoga Breaks in Spain's teaching style is precise but relaxed. There’s no pressure to create the perfect looking yoga posture. What's more important is that you focus on how the yoga feels within your body. Respect what your body is able to do, be patient, keep practicing with compassion and your body will open up and let you back in.

You'll practice Hatha, Vinyasa flow, and restorative yoga, with cleansing pranayama (breathing practice), meditation, and some yogic philosophy sprinkled in to ensure you have the complete yoga experience. During your stay, there'll also be a workshop on how to create your own home yoga practice, so you can continue when you are back home. By the end of your stay, you’ll feel stronger, calmer, and you will notice a huge difference in how your body feels.

Included excursions

A 14-kilometer guided coastal hike is planned on your first morning, to get you out in nature.

Nicole qualified as a yoga teacher with an "Excellent" grade diploma after a two-year yoga training course with FRYOG (Friends of Yoga International) and has since gone on to train with some of the yoga famous - and not so famous but equally fabulous teachers - including Shiva Rea, Liz Lark, Godfri Devereus, and Claire Missingham.

During your stay, you will be offered daily brunch and three-course vegetarian dinners at the hotel on all but two evenings. As the holiday will be quite active, Yoga Breaks ensure you are adequately nourished so that you have the energy to do the things you love. Each meal is nutritionally balanced and wholesome, using locally sourced and seasonal produce just bursting with their nutritional goodness.

Before morning yoga, there'll be hydrating herbal teas and fresh fruits to help you slowly awaken and then, post class, a hearty buffet brunch, where you can help yourself to wholesome cereals, seasonal fruits, Spanish tortilla (eggs dish), local cheeses and cold cuts, yogurts, locally grown tomatoes and avocados, nuts, assorted breads, jams, honey, teas, and freshly squeezed orange juice, is available.

In the evening, you will dine at the hotel on all but two evenings, where the chef prepares superb three-course vegetarian suppers based on macrobiotic principles, using seasonal produce balancing tastes, textures, and flavors. Gluten and dairy free diets are not a problem. Just let Yoga Breaks know if you need to avoid them.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Alicante International Airport (ALC). Transfer from and to this airport is available upon request for the additional cost of 40 EUR each way. Yoga Breaks offer a private transfer service from and to this airport. The meeting on arrival will be between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Upon departure, you will be transferred during the midday. The transfers take 75 minutes.

Please ensure your flight arrives no later than 12:15 p.m. on arrival day and departs no earlier than 1:30 p.m. on departure day to allow time to clear customs and collect your luggage.

Flights arriving outside of the transfer times can be accommodated with a private taxi or public transport. Please send an inquiry to Yoga Breaks for more details.

Arrival by bus

If you would like to travel with the locals, there is a resort hopper service that operates from Alicante International Airport (ALC) at regular times throughout the day. Journey time can be between one and a half and two and a half hours. The cost is between 30 and 35 EUR. Reservations have to be made in advanced. For more details on this option, please send an inquiry to Yoga Breaks.

Arrival by train

There is a local slow tram that runs along the Alicante coast. It’s a nice way to see more of the coastline and a great way to travel if you have the time, as it can take up to two and a half hours due to stops en-route. This tram operates from the center of Alicante, so you need to take a cab from Alicante International Airport (ALC) to the north end of Alicante Harbor (25 minutes by cab.) Here, you’ll find the FGV (Ferrocarril de la Generalitat Valenciana) tram. Trams run about every 30 minutes and cost between 25 and 35 EUR each way.

Do not make your way to Alicante central train station. This is only for high speed trains to central Spanish cities, not the coastal towns. Please send an inquiry to Yoga Breaks for more details about this option.
