Bring some fresh air into your yoga practice during Yoga Breaks' yoga and hiking holiday in Spain! Yoga and hiking complement each other perfectly. Hiking is great for the heart and lungs, but can create tight muscles and tenderness in the leg joints. With the addition of yoga, you will loosen hamstrings, improve flexibility, increase mobility, and build muscle strength, so the gaps left by hiking are filled by yoga. Join this holiday and give a total boost to your health and fitness!
Yoga Breaks Spain is delighted to host this retreat near the sea at an Olive mill that’s been owned by a local Spanish family for over 300 years.
The mill is now a peaceful country house hotel sitting in a rural spot with awesome views to the mountains & sea and yet is a short stroll to the very pretty ‘old town’ & beach.
There’s a pool in the hotel garden, a small gym & sauna, a light-filled yoga studio and a restaurant where you’ll dine most nights.
The 22 spacious rooms are well equipped with double or twin beds, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, safety deposit, a fridge, TV and daily maid service to keep everything fresh & sparkling. Every room has a private ensuite bathroom with lovely fluffy bathrobes, plump towels, hairdryer, and complimentary Oliva del Mediterraneo toiletries.
They never ask (nor expect) solo guests to share & so you’ll have your own double room with private bathroom for a reasonable supplement of 75 GBP for the week. Unless you’d like to share with a friend of course,
Yoga and hiking together make a super healthy combo. With hiking in the great outdoors giving a boost to your heart and lungs together with super soothing yoga to ease away any knots and tension. The perfect balance!
Yoga Breaks take their time creating the programme for each of the retreats with little tweaks dependent on the season as they want to make sure you get to experience the best of what's available. Here's a little sample though of what you can expect:
Then, depending on the day, you could be:
You'll be taught by super experienced, caring teachers who'll take you through carefully planned yoga sessions that include Hatha, slow flow vinyasa and restorative yoga styles.
The yoga sessions are suitable for keen beginners (ie. those with a little experience), intermediate & advanced yogis. So expect to hear lots of alignment cues and teaching tips to help deepen your practice.
Morning sessions focus on simple slow-flowing Vinyasa sequences, synchronizing breath with movement so that your practice becomes like a calm, flowing meditation. Evening classes are a little slower, where you’ll hold postures a little longer, using the breath to move deeper within and reconnect with your inner peace.
Yoga Breaks teaching style is precise but relaxed. There’s no ego involved, nor pressure to create the perfect yoga postures. You’ve all come to yoga with different bodies and different abilities and so, what’s more, important is that you pay attention to how the yoga feels inside your body. It doesn’t matter what other people are doing around you, just work with what you have. Be patient, keep practicing, and your body will open up and let you back in.
There is no yoga on Sunday morning as you we set off after breakfast for the mountain hike. On return to the hotel Sunday evening there'll relax & rest before a meditation workshop. There is also no yoga on the final morning as Yoga Breaks finds that guests like to have a lazy breakfast before heading back to the airport.
In addition to the twice daily yoga sessions, there'll be some optional activities you can join if you wish.
All hikes are included in your holiday but you don't have to do them if you don't want to. The mountain hike is classed as moderate to challenging in places as there will be moments of walking uphill together with times where you'll be walking on loose scree and so this hike may not be suitable for those with vertigo or mobility issues.
During your stay, you will have hikes through the surrounding area.
Nicole qualified as a yoga teacher with an "Excellent" grade diploma after a two-year yoga training course with FRYOG (Friends of Yoga International) and has since gone on to train with some of the yoga famous - and not so famous but equally fabulous teachers - including Shiva Rea, Liz Lark, Godfri Devereus, and Claire Missingham.
This yoga holiday takes place near the Mediterranean sea in the lovely coastal town of Altea, an hour from Alicante International Airport (ALC).
This is the Costa Blanca region of Spain, known for its Moorish influence, quiet mountain villages, spectacular scenery, exceptional beaches, and an abundance of underground springs giving life to lush Mediterranean fruits and vegetables.
Altea is considered to be one of the prettiest towns in this area with a beautiful 'old town' with cobbled streets, whitewashed houses, alfresco restaurants & little boutiques that you'll have chance to visit whilst you're here.
You’ll have fresh fruits and herbal teas each morning to help you slowly awaken before yoga and then, after yoga, there’s a lovely, large buffet brunch of fruits, wholesome cereals, Spanish tortilla, yogurts, eggs, local tomatoes, Spanish cheeses and cold cuts, fresh juice, assorted breads, pastries, preserves, and homemade breakfast cake. Gluten-free and dairy-free options are always available, too. Local fish is offered sometimes for those who would like it.
Suppers are taken at the hotel on all but 2 eves when your taste buds are free to explore the many local dining options. All suppers at the hotel are healthy and delicious with three-course plant-based dishes using locally sourced seasonal produce. A plant-based diet is associated with a higher intake of essential vitamins, minerals, anti oxidants, and phytochemicals, which often results in feeling lighter and more energized and improved sleep.
When you're not practicing yoga or heading out on hikes, there's also the chance to take part in some optional activities to help you get to know more about this beautiful area. Guided bike rides, aerial yoga, and, of course, lots of gorgeous pampering therapies with the elite wellness team are all available. Or, just head to the pool and laze in the sunshine or venture into town and wander Altea’s little streets.
Alicante–Elche Airport

Transfer available for additional US$49 per person
Please book your flight to arrive at Alicante International Airport (ALC). Transfer from and to this airport is available upon request for the additional cost of 40 EUR each way. Yoga Breaks offer a private transfer service from and to this airport. The meeting on arrival will be between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Upon departure, you will arrive back at the airport for midday.
Please ensure your flight arrives no later than 12:15 p.m. on arrival day and departs no earlier than 1:30 p.m. on departure day to allow time to clear customs and collect your luggage. Flights arriving outside of the transfer times can be accommodated with a private taxi or public transport. Please send an inquiry to Yoga Breaks for more details.
Alicante's mainline train station has arrivals throughout the day/evening including frequent fast trains from Madrid. Yoga Breaks can organise a private taxi to collect you from the train station to bring you straight to the yoga hotel in Altea (approx 1 hour drive). Or, if you wish to make your own way to them from Alicante train station you will first need to take a taxi to Alicante harbor where you will find the FGV (Ferrocarril de la Generalitat Valenciana) tram service that departs throughout the day and stops in Altea. The tram journey can be slow as it has many stops en route to Altea & so you should allow up to 2 hours for the tram journey. The tram runs about every 30 minutes and costs between 25-35 EUR each way.
If you would like to travel with the locals, there is a resort hopper service that operates from Alicante International Airport (ALC) at regular times throughout the day. The drop off point is an easy 10-minute walk to our yoga hotel in the town of Altea. The cost is 30 EUR, dependent on location. Please send an inquiry to Yoga Breaks for more details.
