Yoga and More School Teacher Training adopts the policy that yoga starts from the inner peace, the self-doubt of approved beliefs and the constant need for self-exploration. The program meets the criteria of the most famous organization of acknowledging instructors' skills, Yoga Alliance USA (RYS200, YACEP, ID 243380). Eva Kirmizaki leads the school offering since 2011 sessions, workshops, retreats, yoga teacher training and continuing education in Greece.

Yoga and More School hosts teacher training since 2017 in order for the students to be able to study the yogic field, create a general commitment to the yogic path without dogmatic attachments and create the ability to apply on the mat and off the mat, in the real world, the philosophy of a yoga practitioner, as well as of a scholar who seeks the eternal truths. This is a Vinyasa based training, following modern methods from science, as well as from intuition and love teachings. Yoga and More are not following dogmas, nor they hold theocratic ideas about the body, the mind, and the energy.

Only four kilometers from the city center of Rethymno, at Prines village, lies the perfect for retreats, traditional, three-steps Villa 'Kalliopi'.

Kalliopi was one of the 9 mythological muses as referred by Hesiod. This unique, stone-built villa has an interior of 280sqm and features five comfortable bedrooms, three bathrooms, two living-rooms, a dining-room, a fully-equipped kitchen, fireplace, spacy indoors, space for yoga practice, as well as an outdoor pool (not available in winter period). It is surrounded by a large garden and terrace in a full green environment for relaxing.

The villa has 5 bedrooms and an open pool (not heated in winter). It offers free Wi-Fi, air-conditioned areas and a fireplace. Traditional taverns and a beautiful café are expecting for you to experience Cretan tastes and the hospitality of the village. The villa can host until seven students. We like to keep the number of participants as low as possible for interactive teaching and effective learning.

The closest airport is Chania airport, 33 kilometers away. Upon your arrival, there is an arranged free airport pick-up. Transfer returning to the airport can be arranged with an extra cost.

Kalliopi Villa might be available for staying extension 1 day before and 1 day after the training, so as you can arrange your flights accordingly. Please send an inquiry for more information before booking. Each extension day has an extra cost of 50e. Keep in mind that at extension days plated meals are not served inside the villa and you can choose the 5 minutes away from the local tavern for that reason.

Expected outcomes

By the end of the training program, participants are expected to be able to:

  • Teach confidently and with safety at the basic level to mixed level Vinyasa classes
  • Design Vinyasa yoga classes and courses based on knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and philosophy of yoga and feel able to develop their knowledge and practice in the future
  • Feel awakened to apply the principles of yoga in their personal lives and to awaken those around them on this path
  • Have ignited their inner fire of truth-seeking by researching individually on yoga and offer their own research work according to their scientific background if existed

B. Practice

Practice daily with specific teaching observation skills (with a pedagogical framework for specific outcomes, eg. if the objectives of the lesson are achieved, etc).

Preparation for final examination teaching

Upon completion of this yoga teacher training, students will receive a certificate of completion from Yoga and More School that meets the identified standards set by the organization of Yoga Alliance USA in 200 hours.

The last 2 days are held exams: 1st day in teaching practice and second day written test with open notes (everyone passes always as the philosophy is not to be examined, but to self-reflect upon what you have learned).

Throughout the program, a certain selected bibliography is used and proposed for lifelong learning as well.

Optional: At yin days, it is arranged a group activity, such as a meal at a tavern, etc. The food at restaurants is not included in the tuition price. This activity is optional.

Retreat location

The city of Rethymno is an ideal tourist destination for visitors who wish to explore the rich cultural heritage and the natural beauties of Crete. It's the third-largest town on Crete (after Heraklion and Chania), lies halfway along the north coast, at the foot of the Psilorítis mountain range. This well-organized city offers to visitors a variety of picturesque routes to follow and numerous historical monuments to visit. The old city of Rethymno still preserves its old urban structure to a great extent, formed during the Venetian period and later reformed during the Turkish occupation. It has been declared a protected historical monument and a traditional settlement.

Food

All meals are with local products and are cruelty-free (meat/fish free). Three meals daily: buffet breakfast, plated lunch, and buffet dinner.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

There will be a pick-up free of cost from the airport of Chania or Heraclion. So firstly, you have to inform us about your arrival time straight after when you book your flights. Also, you must keep in contact with us on the same day in case of a flight delay, in order to re-arrange the pick-up time with the driver.

Chania Airport is closer, while Heraclion airport is half root more. It is advisable to book early morning charts, as they are usually cheaper. The earlier you book your flights, the cheaper you find them. You can book 1 flight to Athens and 1 flight from Athens to Chania or Heraclion. The flights from Athens to Crete are usually cheap, so it is advisable not to fly from an international airport straight to Crete, as it would be either costly or not available, so choose the proposed plan.

You can arrive at 'Kalliopi Villa' from 11 a.m. and you can exit until 6 p.m on the departure day. An exception can be made if you can't find flights on the departure day in evening, thus some students book flights on the 16th day and give exams on the 15th day, however losing the graduation ceremony (still you get the degree of course!). If you find flights that serve the program, it is recommended not to miss the initiation ceremony at 12 am of 1st day and the graduation ceremony at midday of 16th day (time varies according to how many give exams at 16th day).
