'Madhav Residency’ Ashram will be your home during the six nights of intended stay for the Ayurvedic SPA Retreat. Madhav Residency is a well-designed construction equipped with 40+ rooms in the form of two-room apartments with attached balconies, a kitchen, a lounge hall, and two bathrooms.

The ashram has a power generator and free access to unlimited Wi-Fi internet at all times. There are two yoga studios within the residency. The kitchen lies on the ground floor adjoined with a capacious dining hall where everyone gets together for the feasts.

The dining hall has a water purifier which dispenses cold/hot/normal water. The rooftops are the most exquisite in the early mornings to do the cleansing practices while watching the sunrise.

There is also a dedicated area for laundry on the rooftop where two washing machines are placed to be used anytime you like during your stay.

Each room has a private balcony with refreshing views. Yoga Adi supplies bed sheets, pillows, toilet paper, blankets but does not provide towels due to the hygiene issues.

Program

The Yogic Kriyas and Ayurvedic Panchkarma therapies will include the following:

Abhyangam / Svedan

Abhyangam is a form of Ayurvedic medicine that involves massage of the body with large amounts of warm oil. The oil is often pre-medicated with herbs for specific conditions. Abhyanga can be done as part of the steps of Panchakarma therapy, especially in the first stage: Purva Karma (pre-treatment), or as its own therapy.

It is often followed by Svedana therapy, a warm bath, yoga or laying out in the sun. Many times Abhyanga is performed by two or more massage therapists working in sync but it can also be done by oneself.

The oils used can vary depending on the season and the individual’s constitution (dosha) but commonly used oils include sesame, coconut, sunflower, mustard, and almond.

Shirodhara

Shirodhara is a form of Ayurveda therapy that involves gently pouring liquids over the forehead. The name comes from the Sanskrit words Shiro (head) and Dhara (flow). The liquids used in Shirodhara depend on what is being treated but can include oil, milk, buttermilk, coconut water, or even plain water.

Shirodhara has been used to treat a variety of conditions including eye diseases, sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, graying of hair, neurological disorders, memory loss, insomnia, hearing impairment, tinnitus, vertigo, Miner’s disease and certain types of skin diseases like psoriasis.

It is also used non-medicinally for its relaxing properties to stimulate the nerves in the head which works to achieve balance and symmetry in the body and mind, relieves headaches, enhances clarity and focus and dismisses mental fatigue.

Trataka

Trataka is the practice of staring at some external object. This fixed gazing is a method of meditation which involves concentrating on a single point such as a small object, black dot or candle flame. It is used in yoga as a way of developing concentration, strengthening the eyes, and stimulating the aja (forehead area) chakra.

As a staring meditation, Trataka is the technique of saadhakas (spiritual aspirants) which is supposed to develop psychic powers. With the ability to cease the restlessness of eyes seeking something or the other, by fixing the gaze, the restless mind to come to a halt.

Trataka is said to enhance the ability to concentrate. It may increase the power of memory and bring the mind in a state of awareness, attention, and focus. This exercise acts on the centers of smell and sight; it stimulates the nervous system. It is said to control the ciliary (blink) reflex and stimulate the pineal gland.

Nasya

In Ayurveda, Nasya therapy is a process where the Herbalized oils and liquid medicines are administered through the nostrils. Since the nose is the gateway of the head, the therapy is highly effective in curing a number of diseases pertaining to the head, if it is performed systematically.

The therapy cleanses and opens the channels of the head, thereby improving the process of oxygenation (prana), which has a direct influence on the functioning of the brain. Because it keeps the eyes, nose, and ear healthy. It also prevents the early greying of hair and bear.

Mud pack

Mud is an important element of nature. It contains important minerals which have positive effects on human health. Mud can absorb toxins from the human body, therefore, is very useful in preventing many diseases. It is also known for its healing properties.

It also helps in cooling and relaxing the body as it can hold moisture for a long time. It cures allergy, psoriasis and many other skin diseases even leprosy. It reduces the irritation of eyes hence useful in the case of conjunctivitis, itching of the eyes, allergic conditions, hemorrhage in the eyeball.

Mud therapy is useful in cases of errors of refraction like short-sightedness, long-sightedness and especially in case of glaucoma. General weakness and nervous disorders are cured by mud therapy. Stomach trouble, kidney disorders can be removed. Mud therapy can cure gout, rheumatism, arthritis, asthma, bronchopneumonia, diabetes, and more.

Jal Neti Kriya

Jal Neti kriya (nasal cleaning) is a cleansing practice of the sinus passages with warm saline water. Yogis have practiced it for centuries for its innumerable and powerful benefits. It is also called Neti or saline nasal irrigation.

In yoga, it has been used for its extremely powerful physical, psychological and spiritual benefits. However, in the modern world, Jal Neti has gained immense popularity because of its dramatic effect on the sinuses.

It solves the sinus infection and allergy problems without the use of drugs with immediate, immense and sustained results and without side effects.

Enema

Enema is known as easiest and one of the natural ways of getting your colon cleaned. It is one of the simplest remedies which would help you to wash away all your stomach problems. It is a procedure wherein a fluid is put into the rectum and colon via the anus to remove the toxins.

A lubricant is massaged inside the anus and rectum to relax you when the nozzle or rectal tube is inserted. This liquid treatment is adhered to clear the bowel, induce better functioning of the bowel, to cleanse and provide therapeutic benefits.

Steam bath (sauna)

Since ancient times, the healing power of herbal steam bath is well known. It boosts the health, increases the energy of the human body, refreshing entire bodily systems and has a good impact on almost all organs of the human body.

The herbal steam baths were used in medieval times for physical and mental relaxation. Nowadays, it is a well-known fact about herbal steam baths efficacy for these purposes.

Steam bath benefits

It helps in acne cases, opens the pores, cleanses the toxins and makes the skin soft and smooth. Steam bath also helps in cleaning of the respiratory system, clears the nasal passage and throat, and helps in breathing problems.

This is best and ideal for removing the toxins from the body. In this way, it tones the skin. In addition, it improves the texture of the skin and increases the glow of the skin. Therefore, it beautifies the person. It has a calming effect on the person so it helps in relaxing the person not only physically but also gives mental relaxation.

Wet sheet bath

This pack is useful in cases of fever especially in typhoid and continued fevers and benefits those suffering from insomnia, epilepsy and infantile convulsions. It is useful in relieving chronic cold and bronchitis and helps in the treatment of rheumatism and obesity.

Asana practice not only brings flexibility to the body, but also to the cognition of the mind.

Pranayama (Breathing Exercises)

Pranayama is the science of breathing that regulates the bio-plasmic physiology of the body and state of mind. Practicing and learning the discipline of breathing, to unlock advanced spheres of Yoga.

Meditation

The practice of meditation brings us closer to the nature of our reality and culminates all the unnecessary ideas formed unconsciously. Yoga Adi is diverse with their meditation techniques introducing Yoga Nidra, Dynamic Meditations and many more.

Yoga Adi School of Yoga is based in the land of the spiritual seekers 'Rishikesh'. It is located at the foothills of Himalayas, Rishikesh has been a pilgrimage for monks and devotees from hundreds of years.

Thousands of people visit Rishikesh to make offerings to the sacred river the 'Ganges' and receive healings from it. Ganges and Himalayas set Rishikesh's aura for yoga and meditation. There are many of the historical temples and traditional ashrams in the area to visit and experience the old rooted ways into spirituality.

Yoga Adi School of Yoga is built in an outer suburb of Rishikesh at eight kilometers away from the town center. A short distance from town allows the students to be away from the hustle-bustle of the pilgrims' traffic which normally gets very hectic.

The residency is well placed in a small community with refreshing views of the mountains, the farms and flowing canal right at the doorsteps of the residency. It is very well accessible to go to the town on a Tuk-Tuk or a cab which are easily available in the area.

By foot, there are various nearby attractions which are in the radius of 10-minute walk from the residency. There is a very nice eatery called Book & Brew Cafe that is just five-minutes of walk away, they have nice coffee and pasta.

The grocery shops are only around the corner of the block. The breathtaking Ganges is only 20-minutes by walk. There are many other shops, restaurants and ATM's available in the area if you want to avoid the busy town.

Food

Yoga Adi School of Yoga places emphasis on providing a satvik diet for their guests and students, that nourishes their vital energy. A satvik diet enhances our energy to be pure, positive, clean, conscious, strong, true, honest, and wise.

The diet regimen comprises fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, legumes, and whole grains. This regimen empowers virtues such as Ahimsa (non-violence). It includes vegetarian proteins that are most suited to the daily practice and learning of Hatha yoga, breathing techniques, and meditation techniques.

In case, you are vegan or lactose intolerant or you have any other dietary requirements, we can easily make necessary arrangements for you. During your stay at Yoga Adi, you will be served three daily vegetarian Satvik meals.

The meals will also be provided without any additional charges on your days off during the course, although YogaAdi School encourages guests to keep them updated if they eat out, in order to avoid any wastage of food at the kitchen.

Reiki is the life energy that flows through all living things. How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by Airplane

There are three flights available daily from Delhi to Jolly Grant Airport Dehradun (DED) in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Once you have booked a flight, it is easy to get to the Domestic Airport from International Airport in a shuttle bus. Yoga Adi offers a free cab service upon your arrival at the Dehradun Airport.

Note: A ride in a taxi direct from Delhi Airport to Rishikesh takes up to 8-hours. Yoga Adi can assist you in arranging the taxi. The fare is around 4000 INR.

Arrival by bus

Rishikesh has a good channel of buses joining it with main cities such as New Delhi, Jaipur, Agara and Haridwar. The buses depart in the morning and late evening from Delhi's Inter State Bus Terminal for Rishikesh every day.

There is a wide range to choose from a regular, deluxe, or luxurious coach service. Upon arriving at Rishikesh bus stand, it is very easy to avail a Tuk-Tuk or a local Cab to the residency.

Arrival by train

Traveling in a train to Rishikesh only gets you as far as Haridwar which is 25 kilometers away from the residency. Although, it is very easy to catch a bus or a direct cab from Haridwar Railway Station to Rishikesh.

There is a wide range of trains you could book from all over India to Haridwar as it is a popular point of interest. Note: A cab ride from Jolly Grant Airport to Rishikesh is included. No additional charges. You can request this in the next step.
