This 9-day yoga intensive retreat in tropical northern Queensland promises a joyful and challenging escape for you. In the early morning, you will start to salute the sun while it rises from the ocean. Let’s take some time to let go of your rules, responsibilities, and worries. Let’s be playful and connect to likeminded people while doing the thing you love, which is yoga. Try out various types of yoga, integrate yoga philosophy and mindfulness techniques such as pranayama and meditation, and connect to nature.
Capturing the cool, green light of the rainforest, accommodation is in secluded forest huts nestled in the rainforest canopy. A minimalist design maximizes the sights, sounds, and smells of the rainforest whilst giving some personal space to those creatures you may prefer not to sleep with. It is accessed by a boardwalk to protect the forest floor. The rainforest huts have no solid walls. Instead, the timber structure is screened on all four sides with weather proof curtains which are able to be drawn for privacy and protection from adverse weather. Each hut has a small verandah, simple furnishings, and can accommodate for two persons in either double or twin occupancy.
Elegant and rustic at the same time, these outside ensuites offer a convenient addition to the Rainforest Huts. A simple deck extends from the hut, while privacy is created by the natural foliage of the forest. Gravity fed with fresh and cold water collected onsite, the ensuites are appointed with a shower, toilet, and basin fittings of quality and style.
For those interested in more creature comforts, the deluxe canopy cabins may be for you. Deluxe cabin is available for single and double occupancy. The price is 1890 AUD per person in shared room and 2390 AUD in single room.
Made of solid wooden construction, with ample and screened glass windows, the canopy cabins offer maximum protection from the elements, while still offering a close connection to the sights and sounds of the forest. Larger than the rainforest huts, these cabins are stylishly appointed with polished wooden floors, handmade natural timber furniture and spectacular glass-walled bathrooms looking out high in the trees. With a studio-style lounge, bedroom, and a private, furnished verandah, the canopy cabins offer superior accommodation in an entirely natural environment.

There will also be various types of asana practices including playful yoga sessions on the beach, chanting, moving meditation, and cleansing breath work. Try out various types of yoga such as flow, Yin, AcroYoga, and supported yoga, integrate yoga philosophy and mindfulness techniques such as pranayama and meditation, connect to nature, deepen your awareness, and enhance your happiness and well-being.
During the intensive retreat, you’ll explore the different aspects of yoga. You’ll see how you can integrate yoga philosophy principles into your practice and life. You’ll look at subtle energies and mind and body connection. With a daily pranayama practice, you explore the balancing effect breath can have. During the meditation practice, you will learn to connect to your mind, let go of thoughts, and enhance feelings of enthusiasm, joy, and peace.
The intensive retreat is suitable for all levels of experience. However, some yoga experience is recommended. Participants are asked to open their minds to deepen their yoga practice and to explore new aspects of their yoga journey. Anneriek has an ability to teach challenging practices in a light hearted and joyful way. She’ll be guiding you through:
North Sydney Yoga (Ashtanga Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga)
Anneriek has been teaching yoga for over 15 years, completed over 1000 hours of training, and is certified in both Ashtanga Vinyasa and Yin yoga. She is a Level 3 Senior Registered Teacher with Yoga Australia. She has recently completed an advanced international teacher training with Mark Stephens in order to develop further skills to mentor and teach other yoga teachers.
This intensive retreat is held at the beautiful Sanctuary Yoga Retreats in Queensland, a haven of tranquility in a setting of breathtaking beauty. With secluded beaches meeting the Great Barrier Reef, unique accommodation, dedicated yoga space, massage treatments, and delicious cuisine, Sanctuary Yoga Retreats is the unspoilt paradise. It is located amidst lush tropical rainforest, overlooking the Coral Sea, in Bingil Bay, two hours south of Cairns.
You will be served delicious vegetarian breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as morning / afternoon tea.
To pamper your body, massage treatments are available at Sanctuary Yoga Retreat at an extra cost. Massages are 75 AUD for 1 hour and 105 AUD for 90 minutes.
Please arrive at Cairns Airport (CNS). Yoga 4 You will pick you up from the airport. The pick-up is included in the price. Charter bus to pick up from Cairns Airport (CNS) leaves at around 1 p.m. to 1.30 p.m. Saturday (allows for the Melbourne / Sydney flights to be in). On check out day (Sunday), the bus will leave around 9 a.m. to get to the airport around 11 a.m. Please book your flights accordingly.
If travelling by coach, please telephone Sanctuary Yoga Retreats with your bus arrival time at least one day prior to your arrival. Greyhound coaches (www.greyhound.com.au) stop at Mission Beach Central (also known as Wongaling Beach) terminal. Sanctuary is about 15 kilometers north of the coach terminal, so you will need to catch the local Mission Beach, Beach Bus from the terminal to Connors Corner.
The Beach Bus runs a regular hourly service throughout the day Monday-Friday and more limited service on weekends.
Alternatively, the Mission Beach taxi service (Tel: 0429 689 366) can transfer you to Sanctuary Yoga Retreat at a cost of 40 AUD. It’s generally advisable to call them beforehand so they can meet you when the coach arrives.
