Yoga Teacher Training in Mexico

This yoga teacher training offers a non-denominational style of yoga instruction, comprised of the strengths of selected yoga lineages including Yin yoga, Vinyasa flow yoga, Dharma yoga, and Iyengar yoga. Throughout your yoga teacher training, you will receive guidance on how to establish yourself as a professional yoga teacher. Classes on the business of yoga are included in the curriculum as is ongoing support. This 200-hour residential yoga teacher training follows the standards of Yoga Alliance and limited to 20 students. Shane Perkins is the lead instructor for this training.

Throughout our yoga teacher training program, you will have the experience of living in a community while being surrounded by the healing power of nature. Yandara yoga certification school emphasizes practice and teaching skills, including organizing a class, creating confidence, pranayama, philosophy, and making postural corrections. You will learn to teach yoga with precision alignment, emphasizing heart-felt presence. The foundation of each yoga teacher training program is based on heart-centered Vinyasa Flow Sequences. This curriculum will enable you to formulate and nurture your own personal teaching style.

Deluxe tents are spacious, comfortable and secure, and include a twin bed, mattress, linens, reading lamps, and storage drawers. The tent is 12 feet by 12 feet wide and tall enough for most people to stand. If you remove the rainfly, you have the option of looking up at the stars. Hot showers and bathrooms are centrally located for all students. Experience camping in a way you never have before.



A Yandara Yoga Institute 200 Hour Teaching Certificate will be given upon successful completion of the program. Students who complete their subsequent trainings are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT®).

This core module is the first 200 hours of a 300 hour training.

Daily schedule

Monday through Saturday

  • 07:30 - 09:00 Practice and instruction of yoga flow, and walking and sitting meditation
  • 09:00 Herbal tea, papaya, banana, granola, oatmeal, and boiled eggs
  • 10:00 - 13:00 Yoga teacher training - practice and instruction
  • 13:00 Brunch: Delicious vegetarian meals are served buffet-style. Fish and dairy may be served on occasion.
  • 14:30 - 18:30 Student practice teaching and workshop and communication/presentation skills workshop
  • 18:30 Dinner: Healthy and delicious vegetarian meals (which include optional dairy and eggs) are served buffet style
  • 19:30 - 09:15 Satsang: meditation, music, kirtan, yoga philosophy, and discussion
  • Sunday includes an extended lunch break for exploring the local area.


Yandara Yoga Teacher Training follows and incorporates minimum Yoga Alliance Standards:

  • Techniques (100 hours): Asanas, simple breathing exercises, chanting, and sitting and walking meditation. These hours include both training in the techniques and their practice
  • Teaching methodology (20 hours): Principles of demonstration, observation, assisting/correcting, instruction, teaching styles, qualities of a teacher, the student's process of learning and deepening communication skills
  • Anatomy and physiology (20 hours): Both physical anatomy and bodily systems, organs, etc., and subtle/pranic anatomy and physiology (chakras, nadis, etc.)
  • Philosophy, ethics, and lifestyle (30 hours): Study of yoga scriptures (ethics for yoga teachers), 'living the life of the yogi', truthfulness, and self-introspection reading
  • Practicum (15 hours): Student teaching as well as observing and assisting in classes taught by others. Hours may be a combination of supervised and unsupervised
  • Electives (30 hours): Electives drawn from the other categories including natural diet and health
  • Contact hours (180 hours minimum): Contact hours means that the teacher trainer is physically in the presence of the student. Non-contact or independent study hours may include assigned reading.
  • Yandara Yoga Teacher Training complies with the 200-Hour Level of the Yoga Alliance Standards for Registered Yoga Teachers, as follows:
  • Contact hours (180 hours minimum): Instruction with the teacher trainers' physical presence
  • Non-contact or independent study hours (20 hours minimum): Learning when the teacher trainer is not present. This may include assigned reading or other homework, unsupervised study groups, and observing other students' instruction.

In Baja, Yandara cultivates fresh kitchen herbs and vegetables in their own organic garden, where students are always welcome. There are papayas, bananas, oranges, and mangos in their orchard. Special to this Baja trainings are baked potato days with fresh finely chopped garden herbs (fresh dill, chives, rosemary, basil and thyme), fresh local Dorado with garden basil pesto, garden beet and chard salad with balsamic dressing and samosas with garden fresh parsley/cilantro chutney.

Things to do (optional)

Yandara has put together a yogic menu of additional offerings that you may choose to add to enhance or deepen your teacher training experience. While not in class you may choose to explore your astrological birth chart, determine your Ayurvedic constitution, adjust with a chiropractor, relax with a massage and/or align your energy and heal with Reiki. Sign up for services begins the second day of training. Fees are payable at the end of training with cash, credit/debit card or paypal.
