Xinalani has 23 ocean front rooms, with a total capacity of 54 people. All the accommodations are beachfront, spacious, palm-thatched cabins floating on stilts. The suites and rooms were designed with refined elegance and built and furnished by local artisans. Their cozy interiors inspire feelings of calm and serenity.

You will enjoy the closeness of the natural elements, the stimulation of the open-air private showers and the stunning views of Puerto Vallarta and the Pacific Ocean from your terrace. Since its very beginning, Xinalani has taken the pledge to offer a more affordable option for budget conscious travellers that seek to build community.

Big Palapa and Small Palapa shared rooms

Big Palapa (880 square feet) and Small Palapa (650 square feet) are two separate dorm-style rooms that inspire community and friendship. They feature very comfortable single beds each with its own mosquito netting providing lots of privacy. With a great view of the jungle and the ocean, the Palapas are the perfect option for cost-wary travelers that dont mind sharing their room.

The Big Palapa has 8 single beds and 2 bathrooms; it can be co-ed or strictly girls. In the Big Palapa theres a single drawer below each bed to store personal belongings. The Small Palapa has 4 single beds and 1 bathroom. Overall the Small Palapa is slightly more luxurious than the Big Palapa for its bathroom and closet are larger, and it has a terrace and a hammock.

Both dorm-style rooms are equipped with safe deposit boxes. Big Palapa and Small Palapa guests don't get access to Wi-Fi from their room but they generally don't mind walking to the dining patio, the bar or the beach club to have free access to the internet.

Calm the mind and sooth the body with seven days of yoga, healthy-gourmet dining, meditation, and activities - all in the setting of a secluded beach accessible only by boat and surrounded by lush, mountain-jungle.

Explore the wilderness trekking through the pristine sierra behind Xinalani. Follow the guide as he "machetes" his way into the deep rain forest and leads you to a pristine waterfall. Enjoy the unique contact with local fauna and flora, away from tourists. It's a steep hike that requires solid walking shoes, light sports clothes, a bottle of water, and some bug repellent.

"My yoga retreat was a 10, exceeded my expectations all around. Xinalani was my first yoga retreat and I traveled alone, within hours of my arrival I made friends. The resident yoga instructors, Rodrigo, Willis & Natalie, were amazing. I loved every minute of it – the jungle trek hike was great as was the temascal ceremony. Xinalani food & service was great too. I also had one of the best massages ever – Angel – wow! I wouldn’t hesitate to go back. Loved it all."

"I really enjoyed my time and Xinalani. It is an ecofriendly place with no AC but with open spaces including the sleeping facilities. I love the heat so it was not an issue for me. The staff is friendly and super helpful to any request.Meals are very healthy, fresh and delicious; kitchen will accomodate/adjust to any dietary request. The resort is a little oasis far away from civilization but very reachable from Airport/Puerto Vallarta.I will come back."

"I just returned from a yoga retreat week at Xinalani: it was wonderful! I loved every aspect of it. The most striking being the kindness of the staff. Young and less young locals, calling all of the guests by their first names right away, being available at all times and always wearing a beautiful smile. The second most amazing experience was the yoga instruction, lead by Adriana: she is the best yoga teacher I have ever had (I have been doing yoga on and off for the last 20 years). The facilities are pristine, hidden in the jungle: when you arrive by boat you can hardly see the resort. It blends in the trees. The food also is the best I have ever eaten: fresh, well balanced, and varied. I can only highly recommend this place!"

"I had a wonderful time at Xinalani! The food was amazing, the staff was even more amazing, everyone had a smile on their face the whole time! I had three massages with both David and Angel. Amazing! and listing to the waves while having a massage was just wonderful! The rooms were very cut, small, very basic, raw wood on the floor and the whole room was just very stark and raw in middle of the jungle. It is very important that you are able to climb stairs while staying at Xinalani. there are a ton! I personally enjoyed the long hikes through the jungle to the yoga every morning and hiking to your room, but wouldnt be for everyone. I also did the Trek to the water fall and swim with the dolphins! Loved everything.Just a couple things they could do different: set up ways venture out of the resort more. Tell us more about other local areas, how we could get there, or also just plan on 2 or 3 days a week going to Boca, Puerto Vallarta, Yulapa. The boat is coming all day anyways it would be no additional work to just arrange a couple hours at a different place outside the resort."

"Xinalani is truly a magical place. My friend and I stayed for just three days but had the most amazing experience. Everything is so well designed and planned out for you. We stayed in an eco chic suite and loved the spaciousness of the tree house (can't beat the porch and the hammock!). It was also conveniently located close to the dining hall and reception area, so our biggest trek up the hill was only to our yoga classes twice a day -- and the long climb to the top made the yoga even more rewarding. We were fortunate to come during the winter months, so there were fewer mosquitoes and no rain showers. There were also fewer tourists to contend with in nearby villages."

"The staff at the retreat were all amazing and incredibly warm and welcoming. Pere at the front desk, Daniel in the dining hall, and Raul at the bar in particular made our trip complete by taking such good care of us. And Angel, the head masseuse, is just that -- an angel. He worked magic on my stiff back and sore muscles. Thank you, Angel!"

"The yoga was fantastic and the two yoga instructors we had, Rodrigo and Adriana, were both incredible teachers who brought their own styles and unique characters to the classes. The morning classes are typically more intensive vinyasa yoga while the evening classes are more meditative and restorative. We were exposed to a variety of yoga practices, including vinyasa, hatha, yin, and a communal style of yoga, among others. I strongly encourage you to keep to the practice and attend the classes twice a day. It will structure your days and make the experience incredibly rewarding. Treat yourself!"

"We chose not to participate in any of the excursions offered, such as the jungle trek, sea kayaking, or swimming with the dolphins due to our short stay. But the two beaches (one in front and the other just outside of the property) offered enough fun for us. We opted instead to spend our down time relaxing, reading and enjoying wonderful massages (we each got two!)."

"While the boat trip there was a little rough for my friend, I found it to be really exciting and fun. Luckily she got to see a family of killer (orca) whales on her boat ride back, which made it all worthwhile."

"As many people have mentioned, the food is incredible and there's plenty of it. They do a great job to offer variety and deliciously healthy and creative dishes for all dietary needs. And the vegan/gluten free desserts are to die for!"

"The eco bath products they provide were really wonderful and perfect for my sensitive skin. I loved the soft scents of the soap. My only complaint is that I wish they had provided eco-friendly bug spray in the room as well. Since they recycle the water for irrigation purposes, I can't imagine that the deet and other chemicals found in typical bug spray are good for the environment. They do offer eco-friendly bug spray for sale ($12 for a small bottle) but it would be nice -- and helpful to them -- to provide it free of charge. "

"We had no issues with animals coming into the suite, as we didn't bring any food in our luggage. But we did enjoy the small lizards and monarch butterflies on the property. Many moths did come to visit at night and a few accompanied us to bed, as they got stuck inside the mosquito netting. I would suggest using low lights and tuning your body to the sun clock so you rest peacefully when the sun is down and awake to the morning light. The arid room and sounds of the ocean were heavenly."

"Do yourself a favor to restore your mind, body and soul by booking a trip to Xinalani. It is a truly magical place and I didn't want to leave. I look forward to returning soon!"

"This is my first time ever taking a vacation alone. I have traveled alone before for work but having a vacation solo is a different experience. It was supposed to be a girls weekend but my friend was unable to go because she found out she was pregnant and her doctor recommended her not to go because of the risk of Zika."

"Flying into Puerto Vallarta was easy. I was given emailed instructions with pictures on where to go and who to look for to take my to Xinalani. I was taken to a taxi driver that took me to the marina and was then taken by boat to the resort. I was the only passenger on the boat and honestly felt all my anxieties of traveling alone slip away. I was greeted at the front desk by Alejandro. Everyone that worked there was amazing and friendly. I miss them already! I really wish I could remember everyone's name. My first night at dinner one of the server introduced me to another solo traveler and we quickly became friends. On the second day I also met another solo traveler that happened to be in the same city as me. "

"Yoga- I really enjoyed taking the classes at Xinalani. Walking up the to the yoga studio IS A WORKOUT ITSELF!!! Shoot... walking to my room is a workout! My favorite instructor was Adriana. Her voice to me was just calming. Enrique and Rodrigo were also great too! "

"Food- It was a mixture of plated meals or buffet. They are very cautious of food allergies and diet restrictions if you have any. Lucky for me I eat everything. My only complaint is that meals are set at certain times only. "

"Massage- Loved it! Definitely spoiled myself my last day at Xinalani and got a massage. "

"Advice: Walk around the beach. There's a bar down from Xinalani that is great! I became friends Andres the bartender there. Go in Quimixto town and look for "Mini Tarzan" he will take you to the waterfall! He helped us get horses for $15 a person! "

"I really can't wait to get back. I will post pictures soon. I'm so sorry I can't remember everyone's name right now."

"Everything at Xinalani is taken care of with enormous pride and great consideration for the guest experience. Berenice, Alejandro and Omar lead a team that is, to a person, friendly, responsive, caring, committed and helpful. The food is healthy, fresh, tasty and plentiful. The yoga teachers are knowledgable, the studios are stunning. The spa practitioners are excellent. I booked with a little trepidation considering the rooms are all open to the outdoors, but while they are basic they are comfortable and I never felt anything was lacking. In fact, after being here six days and essentially being outside the entire time I can say I've never slept better. If you're looking to really get away, to enjoy some great yoga and really relax, Xinalani is highly recommended. "

"My husband and I went there for a yoga and surf retreat. Surf did not work out but yoga (with Jenny and Jess from Chicago) was great. The studios were very nice. The food (thank you, Mario!) was to die for. Killer margaritas. Wonderful massage. But if you like city life, it is not for you. Very isolated. But you will make friends with the retreat people (about 50 people total in the whole resort). "

"Saw the website while searching for a yoga destination for Feb 2016. Took a leap of faith and a friend and I went the week of Feb1, 2016. I can honestly say Xinalani exceeded all my expectations. The location is off the beaten path, and the resort is built into a hillside --not for those with knee problems, lots of stairs. Not for kids either--they will be totally bored. We had EcoSuite 6----- OMG, the view was amazing. The food was healthy, creative, and delicious. We weren't on an official retreat, but resort yoga teacher, Adrianna is such great teacher. Every day offered a different style. She really mixed it up. There's a small bar, so we could have a margarita or buy a bottle of wine before or during dinner. Cute little bar down the beach CoCo's.. cheap good drinks, Andreas, the owner is super nice and you can sit in his beach chairs and soak up the sun! The staff at Xinalani is amazing. They made sure everyone was happy, accommodated, and went way overboard to make sure we had a fabulous week! We brought about 5 different bug sprays and oils, but never saw 1 bug!! Crazy since it's all open palapa style. I had 2 massages, both were excellent. I brought way too may clothes, no need for anything other than yoga, hiking, bath suits, and some sweats. There is no one and nothing to dress up for. Definitely used the headlamp I brought. Very low watt lighting, so a good flashlight or headlamp is a must. They do have wifi, but we decided to totally unplug, and never even checked our phones! The best thing is Xinalani make the view and the sea the star, everything we needed, but in a simple, low fuss way. We met several fun people-- of all ages, and we're already planning to go back the same week next year!!! "

    • Review by A travler from Atlanta, USA

"I spent a week at Xinalani with a yoga group at the end of January and it was even better than our first retreat a year ago. The resort is beautifully located, with remarkable amenities, given they are located somewhat remotely. It's simultaneously luxurious and rustic. Surrounded my nature, all of the facilities are open to the sea and fresh air, which is very healthy for body and soul! The staff, many of whom I met last year, were warm, enthusiastic, friendly, and accommodating. They are the heart of Xinalani. We stayed in one of the gorgeous Eco Chic rooms. There was a small problem with our booking and we had to stay in another room for one night. Xinalani handled it perfectly and professionally, apologizing and compensating us generously for the mild inconvenience. I have always found that the mark of great facilities is how well the staff handles situations when things go wrong. In our case, they "made it right". We were very happy. The food was excellent, even better than last year. I enjoyed a cooking class with Mario who is both talented and charming. It's just fun to be in the kitchen and see how they manage lovely meals with limited resources. In addition to our regular yoga activities, we also went whale watching (saw about 12!) and enjoyed time on the water. I had two excellent massages--David was incredible! And everyone was happy with their spa treatments from Carla, Angel and David. We also visited the local elementary school, bringing school supplies and talking with the kids. All the staff lives in the local village and it has a good communal vibe. The week went fast and it was very hard to leave and go home. "

"To be honest, Im not able to write a review for Xinalani, I am only able to write a LOVE LETTER. I recently hosted Thrive Retreat at Xinalani and was blown away by the experience. My participants also shared my love for the retreat, especially the food and the staff, who spoiled them rotten! The care and attention to accommodate different diets and food preferences was particularly impressive. When was the last time you travelled to a resort and felt the love and pride of everyone who worked there? When was the last time you ate meals that nourished your body and fed your soul? Every single meal made at Xinalani is made with love, and the food nourished my guests all week long. If youre lucky, youll get a chance to join Mario in his kitchen and discover his BEST secret recipes. Defo ask for the Tortilla Soup - its epic! Spending time at Xinalani reminds me how life was meant to be, taking time to celebrate the sunrise and sunset each day, sharing food over amazing conversations with people you care about, and taking time to listen and appreciate the beauty of nature.Life was meant to be this simple and pure. I especially love that the vision for Xinalani emerged from a family sharing their passion for yoga, health, beauty and authenticity. I truly felt their care and passion in every aspect of the resort. It was created and designed with love. It is the perfect surrounding for complete and total transformation. Every aspect of planning and booking my retreat was enjoyable and effortless; Mario and Daniel are pure Angels. Another great feature of Xinalani is the retreat finder booking tool on their website.I received lots of inquiries through it and booked 3 of my guests because of this tool. This is an invaluable asset for retreat leaders and really helps you get exposure for your retreat. If you are considering running a retreat and you value authenticity and beauty, then I HIGHLY recommend Xinalani for your experience. I feel so blessed to have found this retreat gem and to have met all the amazing people who operate it with love! It really is magic in Mexico! "

"I have been to many, many yoga retreat centers. It is rare to find a place that has so much to offer. Xinalani has an impeccable beach, beautiful accommodations and a phenomenal staff. They will bend over backwards to make you happy and comfortable. It is an athletic property (lots of stairs) but I find that part of its appeal. All of the rooms look out on the ocean and are equipped with nice mattresses, hammocks and outdoor private showers. JB (the owner) obviously treats his staff well because in my 5 years of going to Xinalani there has been little turnover.Given that many hotels are only interested in money, it's refreshing to be at a place that feels like a family."

"Excellent all around. The photos don't do justice to the experience you receive from being here. The rooms are open (literally) from the balcony to the shower. The views are breathtaking and my room (eco-chic) was fully equipped with a comfy romantic bed with canopy and cool hammock, to which I looked forward to laying in every day. The beach is private and the service is incredible. The staff knows your name, taste-buds, likes/dislikes, etc. nothing was missed. Yoga resident teacher offers plenty of classes and there's ongoing retreats all the time, which is why I went. I'm planning on returning again for sure!"

"The chef, Mario, is incredible. At the outset of my stay Mario introduced himself and asked if any guests had dietary restrictions. Naturally, I self-identified as a tough vegan excluding tofu and eggplant. Mario was so accommodating and my tough restrictions didn't impede on Mario's extraordinary abilities. Never have I ever looked forward to a vegan meal at any vacation resort or restaurant. I typically expect to be satisfied, but let down in some regard with flavor, texture, or both. But with Mario in the kitchen I was ALWAYS blown away. I even asked for seconds and thirds. Yes, it was THAT good.Mario is an incredible chef who prepared special vegan plates for me during every meal--breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Mario's incredibility accommodating disposition is not unique to him--the entire staff at Xinalani is polite, considerate, and warm. Cannot say enough about the service quality. Also, I should note that my husband and I stayed at Xinalani as Hurricane Patricia approached the retreat. The staff at Xinalani were flawless in their handling of the evacuation. We were evacuated on Friday morning by the head engineer who personally knocked on our door to announce the evacuation and personally take our two heavy suitcases down -IN THE RAIN AND TWILIGHT!When my husband and I arrived downstairs in the restaurant area the staff had set up breakfast for all guests, not withstanding a mass evacuation! We were so impressed by the staff's calm and professionalism. The staff then coordinated to transport all 30+ guests (with all our luggage) from the hotel via small boats to a nearby port, then into taxi's to drive to Puerto Vallarta, then booked a charter bus to take us all from Puerto Vallarta to Guadalajara. Did I mention there was a mass evacuation? When we boarded the charter bus I was amazed.Every seat on the bus had a list of seven hotels information (address, phone number, room rate, no. of rooms available) that was current as of that morning and a snack pack (1 liter of water, 1 juice box, 1 apple, 2 fiber bars). WOW. Granted, the hotel did not pay for the charter bus, as each guest had to pay $25 USD, but the information list and snacks were provided by the hotel. So very thoughtful. I will definitely be coming back to Xinalani in the near future!"

"The property is hidden in the jungle and literally off the beaten path because you can only get there by boat or by walking from where the road to Puerto Vallerta ends. The staff is friendly and helpful, the location is beautiful, the food is super healthy yet tasty, and the yoga instructors are top-notch. The only negative is that we came at the same time as an organized retreat and they had first dibs on the best yoga studios-we were roasting in the greenhouse every afternoon. We had a double-occupancy room (single yogini package) and there was plenty of space. Fall asleep listening to the ocean every night! You must be able to negotiate lots of stairs to stay here."

"I came to Xinalani as part of a private yoga retreat. Took a boat from the Marina in PV about 30 minutes to the property. This place is built into the side of a mountain, with a lot of steps. Its just simply amazing how they built this place. We had a double occupancy in the the Deluxe Rooms (we were room 22) the room looks out onto the ocean and it was unbelievable. The waves were fairly loud though and it took some adjustment to fall asleep at night. The beds were also a little stiff for my taste... The food was great, and I have a gluten allergy and was accommodated graciously. The yoga studios are perfect and idyllic. Most of our classes were in the meditation studio cause we were a small group. I mostly enjoyed the private beach and hanging out in the bar/lounge reading and swimming in the ocean. There are free kayaks and paddleboards and snorkeling. The staff was incredible. They remembered everyone's names and would bend over backwards to help you. This place was perfection and worth every penny...I would absolutely come back here if I had the opportunity. Being here was just like being in the natural environment. We saw so many birds, jellyfish and one night a giant sea turtle came up on the beach while we were out there hanging out. It was life changing. Everything about this place was just life changing. Thank you xinalani for making this week one of the most relaxing weeks of my life."

"I write this as I'm waiting for my flight to depart after having stayed a magical week in Xinalani. Though I'm from Mexico city, I've decided to write in English so that this review gets a greater audience. If you're looking for a different type of vacation Xinalani is the place for you.Everyone in the staff provided impeccable and warm service. I would like to make a special mention to Carolina, Berenice, Alex, Jorge, Raul. The chef did a fantastic job creating healthy and tasty food. Xinalani should definitely publish his Cookbook. Adriana's Yoga class is one of the best I've ever taken. Nora's class was a perfect complement and so relaxing. The only area of improvement that I could find was that on my last day a couple arrived with small children. This type of retreat is most definitely not for kids. I thought it was within their policies, but they need to reinforce them better. Other than that, everything was perfect . Thank you Xinalani!!!"

"This was our first ever Yoga retreat and it was fabulous. The resort was quiet, the staff VERY friendly and Chef Mario's food was to die for. Probably one of the best Spa's we've every been too. We want to go back and would highly recommend this for anyone that enjoys both yoga and the ocean!!"

"This was my third yoga retreat at Xinalani and I can't stop coming back. Each time I've returned from the 6 or 7 days there I promise myself I'll return again. This time I stayed in a Deluxe Suite which was perfect. Every room in this eco-lodge has a great view of the ocean and it's intoxicating to go to sleep listening to the ocean waves. The staff can't do enough... the meals were all delicious, fresh and made with love. They honestly can't do enough to make you feel welcome and happy. Most of the same staff members have been there each year. The massages from Angel, David and whoever is on staff get my highest ratings. This year I went on 3 different hikes, a couple of boat rides, and everything is reasonably priced. I can't wait till next year."

"I just returned from a 6-day yoga retreat at Xinalani. This was my first trip to Mexico. Although the reviews have been stellar, Xinalani actually exceeded all of my expectations! The location was exquisite--private, beautiful, an ideal place to practice yoga, hike, relax on the beach. The food was so fresh, beautifully prepared, and abundant. Mario, the chef, was happy to accommodate any dietary needs, and had learned all of our 40+ names!I stayed in a single deluxe room, which was a perfect balance of rustic elegance and comfort. All of the rooms face the ocean and have stunning views. The staff was incredibly sweet and responsive, and travel to and from Xinalani was beautifully orchestrated. The yoga studios are both stunning and spacious. The entire space is immaculate. I would return tomorrow if I could! I cannot recommend this location highly enough. What a treat in the middle of a difficult, prolonged, Chicago winter."

We were very happy."

"The food was excellent, even better than last year. The week went fast and it was very hard to leave and go home."

"There is nothing that I can say to perfectly encapsulate how truly beautiful this place was. My best advice is to imagine that you will find yourself in a tranquil beachside cove, "glamp-ing" and falling asleep to the sound of the ocean as a constant companion. You can be as active (swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, surfing, hiking, yoga) or as sedentary (sun-bathing, reading, meditating, drinking, socializing with your fellow retreat go-ers) as you choose to be. I traveled to Xinalani solo on a groupon and it was just the relaxing and rejuvenating vacation that I needed. I could go on and on about how wonderful it is, but for the purposes of this review, I'll share some logistics and tips of note from my stay.Upon arrival, much to my surprise, Xinalani had arranged an airport pick up to take me to a local hotel. The transportation email that I received stated that since I was staying one night in puerto vallarta before catching the boat the next day, I would have to make my own way to my hotel. After a bit of confusion, I enjoyed a quick ride to my hotel and spent a lovely evening/morning in Puerto Vallarta. The marina was a bit confusing also, but once I found the correct gate, someone collected me and directed me where to wait until the panga was ready. If you get remotely seasick, please remember to take some medication with you from home. The panga ride can be very choppy. Its basically a speedboat out on the ocean. And definitely sit towards the back of the boat. When I checked in I received a deluxe room with 2 twin beds. I had booked a deluxe room with a double bed, but was given this one instead. After speaking with another couple sharing a deluxe room with a double bed, I realized that I lucked out since the mosquito netting didn't close entirely around the double bed. I felt very secure inside my netting as it easliy overlapped around the smaller size bed and there were many little, harmless bugs that landed and made themselves comfy just outside the netting every night. The first night I met a gorgeous praying mantis and a tiny little tree frog in my room!I was also very worried about bug bites. But I planned ahead I had great success using an essential oil I purchased on Amazon called "Insect Sheild: synergy blend" which I diluted and sprayed on my body liberally as well as diffused in my room. I noticed each night there were fewer and fewer bugs in my room the more I diffused this oil. As for bug bites on my body, I didn't get a single bite for the first 3 days of my visit until..... Well, I booked a Coffee Sensuality body treatment. It was incredible!!! However, I learned the hard way that if you don't want to be eaten alive by bugs, maybe it's best not to have a food product rubbed liberally on your body. After that I was never able to remove all of the coffee oil and I went home with 8 or 9 rather itchy bug bites on my feet and legs.If you are a night owl, please note, everything becomes very quiet and there are no activities after dinner. There is a really fun salsa instructor that comes one night a week and that was the latest activity of my stay. But mostly everyone just goes to bed after having a brief nightcap at the bar. So bring a book or something to occupy you if you can't just knock out at the end of the day.I stayed 6 nights and it was just enough. I could have stayed maybe one or two extra days, but after 6 nights I was ready to get back to my life. Xinalani showed me a new way to vacation and I will try to return to experience it's beauty again."
