This yoga retreat in Windham, New York, is perfect for those looking to rest, rejuvenate, and expand as you move into the fall season. In addition to yoga and meditation, you will also enjoy a nutrition workshop, hiking, and time to rest, as well as learn, explore, and connect with a new community. You will be accommodated in a house provided by Windham Retreats. The house amenities include a sauna, hammock, a fireplace and an outdoor fire pit, acres of land to enjoy, and a hot tub with a majestic view.
On this retreat, you will enjoy meditation, Restorative yoga, Vinyasa Flows, movement lab, a nutrition seminar, and a herbalism workshop in addition to nature hikes as well as time to rest, learn, explore, and connect with a new community.
You will practice a blend of mindfulness exercises that teaches you ways to respond to your body with more ease and peace. A guided meditation will enable you to learn ways to cultivate calm and spaciousness. You will also practice mindfulness meditation while sitting and walking. Walking meditations are an amazing way to practice sensory awareness while exploring the natural world.
Through this gentle and deeply relaxing practice, you’ll restore your body and mind. Candlelight and aromatherapy will be incorporated to reawaken your senses and calm the monkey mind and body. This is a calming and therapeutic practice that will soothe the nervous system and help facilitate the release of physical and mental tension.
You will start your day with more energy and ease. This class is moderately paced to cultivate strength, flexibility, and balance within a gentle continuous sequence of postures. You'll build strength and heat while connecting to your breath and creating a sense of ease from the inside out.
The teachings and techniques from this Lab-style class will give you a new appreciation for your good “backbone”! You’ll explore the muscular and skeletal components of the spine using somatic explorations (body-centered meditations that help you learn about your spine from the inside-out), partner exercises, drawing, mobility and stability exercises, and yoga asana (postures). You’ll learn tools to assess how you move through the segments of your spine and learn techniques to help work through habitual spinal movement patterns.
Together, you will dive into the complicated world of nutrition and learn some fundamental concepts to enhance your health. You will discuss a balanced approach to nutrition and touch on foundational concepts such as how and why to get your macro and micro nutrients. Windham Retreats will also provide you with some easy recipes and other ideas to try out at home.
Are you curious about the wild and weedy plants that are good for the mind and body? This will be an introductory session to learn practical ways to gather and use medicinal herbs. You will learn basic plant identification, recipes, and techniques for preparing oils and salves while sipping on some medicinal herbal tea.
You will enjoy a guided local nature hike.
Andrea Bromley is a holistic nutrition and lifestyle consultant. A graduate from University of Wisconsin-Madison, she studied art history and religious studies before realizing her true passion for the health and wellness field. She founded Rethink Knewtrition, LLC a company that provides nutrition counseling in private and clinical settings. Andrea is passionate about healing, and works with clients one on one to become their most vibrant selves by exploring diet, exercise, relationships, and environment.
Daya Foundation Yoga Alliance USA (Yoga)
Stephanie, a yoga teacher and personal trainer based out of Boston, supports her students to learn about the nature of their bodies and minds. She combines traditional Hatha yoga postures, breathing techniques, therapeutic movements, mindful strength training, and moments of stillness with contemporary knowledge about functional and embodied anatomy. Stephanie is a Yoga Alliance certified teacher through the Daya Foundation. She teaches public classes around Boston and offers personalized one-on-one yoga sessions at Balans Wellness Studio.
Marla is a yoga instructor and herbal wellness enthusiast and crafter based in Boston. She finds a great sense of joy and peace in teaching others all that she has learned in her herbal apprenticeship and throughout her twelve years of practicing yoga. She infuses traditional Hatha yoga postures into a dynamic sequence of moments of movement and moments of stillness. Her teaching is rooted in the belief that applied movement and moments of stillness is some of the best medicine for managing stress, building resilience, and cultivating self-compassion.
The retreat home base is located on a mountain top overlooking a magnificent view of the Catskill Mountain range in Windham, USA. The property is a place of quiet and stillness and a wonderful setting to reset and restore. All you can hear are the blissful sounds of birds chirping and trees blowing in the wind. The town of Windham is small and charming with a quaint country store, enjoyable restaurants, and above all, is surrounded by nature to explore.
Daily freshly prepared homemade organic meals and snacks will be served for you on this retreat. The handmade meals are prepared by a nutritionist to support your weekend of wellness and hopefully inspire you in the kitchen at home.
Each meal and snack are organic, seasonal and local when possible, gluten-free, plant-based, and prepared fresh each day of the retreat. This is not a vegan or vegetarian retreat since grass-fed, wild, and organic meat and fish are used. If you have special dietary needs or requests, please contact Windham Retreats’ chef.
