Careful thought goes into researching the best possible locations for this yoga and running retreat. So when Wild Running found one, you can bet it’s pretty special. The High Nature Center is a 5-acre smallholding located on a coastal plateau, it is 130 meters above sea level on the South Devon Coast. The site is level and surrounded by mature hedges, it is a short walk away from a dramatic picturesque stretch of the southwest coast path and some of the most spectacular sandy beaches in England.

There are five homemade yurts available. The High Nature Center aims to bring together visitors attracted to the area for it’s a natural beauty, with local people who rely on the sea and landscape to provide them with the resources they need to prosper and sustain their livelihoods.


The High Nature Center is located in a very special area, both in terms of its beauty and it’s geological and cultural heritage. If you walk from the center towards the sea, you will discover an ancient celtic field system positioned on Deckler’s Cliff, dating from 300 BC. These have survived due to their proximity to the cliff edge and are thus protected from certain modern farming methods. There are also the remains of hut circles, further evidence of prehistoric inhabitants.


The current facilities on the site consist of 6 x 30 meters polytunnels, five of which are covered, one has been converted to keep chickens and ducks in one half. While the other half is passive solar showers and another tunnel a soft fruit cage. The site also has a borehole linked to a collector tank, mains water, and electricity throughout the site, composting toilets and a static caravan which is used as a site office.



The routes are between 4 miles and 10, east or west along a beautiful section of the South West Coast Path towards East Prawle or Salcombe respectively.

Sample itinerary

Lifts are available from Totnes upon request for 15 GBP supplement. Wild Running can also provide you with directions to the camp, which is accessible from the A38 near Plymouth. They aim to do an ice breaker limb-loosening run between 4 and 5 miles at around 5.30 p.m. for anyone who is able to arrive by then. The yoga instructor will take a session before dinner for people who do not make the run.

Running library: There is a great selection of books, magazines, and videos. Which will probably have you squeezing in late night reading sessions.


  • 07:00 - 08:00 Morning yoga class with your instructor to energize, strengthen, and stretch
  • 08:30 Breakfast: Help yourself to the fully catered spread
  • 10:00 Four to eight miles run depending on ability, experience, and preference
  • Shower and change before lunch
  • 12:30 Lunch provided by Clives Pies
  • A chance to read, relax, or go for a walk on the lovely coastal path. You can also visit the nearby Gara Rocks for a coffee/tea or visit the sandy beach at Mill Bay
  • 15:00 - 16:00 Afternoon yoga session with your instructor, yoga therapy to restore and balance body and mind. There is also an afternoon run of 4 to 6 miles on the moor
  • 18:00 Dinner
  • 19:00 Onwards chance to relax, read, and plan tomorrow’s run
  • Ceri will offer a navigation workshop and route planning guidance to those who want it
  • 21:00 Yoga class with your instructor including running specific poses (30-minute)
