Guests will enjoy the privacy of their own lounge, kitchen, and deck with views of the bay. Private or twin share bedrooms are available, and some have a private bath. Facilities include an in house yoga studio, sauna, and hot tub. There are also plenty of comfortable outdoor spaces for relaxation, including a streamside meditation bench.

All linen will be provided. Yoga mats and props are also available.

Program

The program will be tailored to suit the needs of WHY Retreat's guests. Generally, you might expect your day to include the following.

Early morning

  • Pop out to Ocean Beach for the sunrise or sleep in and relax.
  • You can also enjoy the early morning light from your deck as the sun rises over Mt. Manaia

Morning

  • Yoga class structured to suit your level
  • Breakfast - self-cater (ingredients provided)

Around noon

  • Lunch - self cater or join Jo in the kitchen to prepare a salad fresh from her garden.

Afternoon

  • Chill on the deck or at the beach, or embark on one of the many hikes in the area.

Evening

  • Dinner - Help Jo create a delicious vegetarian meal and take advantage of her knowledge about nutrition.
  • Take a stroll to the water's edge and watch the sunset.
  • Enjoy stargazing from the spa pool or join Jo for a guided meditation.

Included excursions

Daily hiking is included. After your yoga class, the pristine beaches, native bush, and iconic landscape of the Whangarei Heads Peninsula await you. Hikes range from flat beach walks to five-hour mountain trails. There are a variety of tracks and beaches close by to meet the fitness level of guests.

WHY is a residential property in a beautiful coastal rural location. It is accessible by car (three hours' drive north of Auckland), bus, or air. You will enjoy sea views and some of the best hiking in New Zealand at your doorstep.

Food

Meals will be prepared freshly with locally sourced ingredients where possible. Breakfast and lunch will be self-catered at your own time (ingredients will be provided). Most vegetarian food requests can be catered for. Your host is passionate about healthy food, and puts flare and imagination as well as taste into the meals.

As a homestay, you will be helping to prepare some of the meals. This gives you a great opportunity to chat about nutrition and take home some inspiration and recipes for vegetarian meals. Jo will share her recipes with you too!

WHY Retreat is a 30-minute drive from Whangarei. You can also reach Whangarei by air or bus, three hours north of Auckland.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 50% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid 10 days before arrival.
