You will be accommodated for 4 nights in Cortijo Pulgarín Bajo. This unique location includes four different buildings. It has a big old country house with several rooms, two additional houses, and an old mill.

You can choose to share a twin room or book a single room. The rooms are decorated in traditional Andalusian style. They are cozy and completely in the atmosphere of this beautiful old farmhouse.

Viva La Vida Yoga Retreat in Spain Program

During this yoga holiday, you will learn how to use yoga and meditation to increase your energy level step by step. You will focus on increasing your energy, improve your concentration, flexibility, strength, and relaxation through yoga exercises, breathing techniques, meditations, and relaxation exercises.

You will do, when possible, your yoga and meditation sessions outside. The old farm where you stay at has beautiful tropical gardens with enough shade from the old palm trees. You will be taken to the mountains and to the beach to do the yoga sessions.

Outdoor sessions add a different dimension to your practice and pare yoga down to its original link with nature. Yoga means 'union' and when it’s practiced outdoors it seems like the union with nature, humanity, and the universe is truly felt.

Many aspects of yoga are in fact about being in the moment and at one with nature or the universe. That’s why so many asanas reflect animals and nature. By putting your body into the shape of a tree or a dog, by exploring the graceful wings of a bird or the fluidity of the Sun Salutation, by breathing with the same cyclical sense as the tides or with an ocean sound, you evoke a sense of harmony, timelessness, and connection to the universe.

Outdoors offer another level to focus on—the smell of nature, such as the ocean, pine, grass. When you start to smell the outdoors, it’s as if nature wants you to be present and breathe deeply.

After this retreat, you will be given additional tips for a different mindset (nutrition tips, habits that help to increase your energy level), free meditations, and exercises to motivate you to continue with everything that you have learned during the retreat. You will also receive some nice playlists with the best yoga music to take home with you. In this yoga retreat.

Additional activities and workshops

In addition to the yoga and meditation sessions, you can also participate in a number of other activities. Participation is always voluntary. The following workshops and activities are included in the price.

Beach yoga

You will go to a beautiful beach for a yoga and meditation session. The perfect natural surroundings make an ideal location for an early morning yoga practice. No music is necessary because nature provides it own unique sounds, allowing one to relax while practicing asanas.

Cooking workshop

Together with Viva La Vida Yoga's Spanish chef, Alejandro, they have compiled a cooking workshop. You will learn to make the most delicious fruit and fruitpatés. You will also learn about herbs and how to make your own milk, chocolate, and jam. Alejandro is an expert in the field of vegetarian and vegan cuisine and while share his passion about healthy eating with you.

Walking meditation (silent walk)

A walking meditation is a form of meditation in action. In walking meditation, you will use the experience of walking as your focus. You will become mindful of your experience while walking, and try to keep your awareness involved with the experience of walking.

A walking meditation is an excellent way of developing your ability to take awareness into your ordinary lives. During the walk, you will experience everything around you very intense. The colors, sounds, the sun, and the wind. It is a very pleasant and special experience.

During the walk, you will stop under these thousand-year-old olive trees and do a special yoga session. After this beautiful tour, you enjoy a delicious picnic.

Included excursions

Yoga on the Beach: in one of the days we will go to a beautiful beach. We will start with a relaxing yoga session followed with a healthy breakfast in a really nice beach club.

Silent walk: We will do a walking meditation in the mountains. Under old olive trees we will do a special meditation and yoga.


Ilse Marie Sobering
Ilse Marie is an advanced yoga and meditation teacher 500RYT. She has followed various teacher training courses, including a master's degree as a yoga teacher in India and she teaches yoga, meditation and coaching courses in three languages to beginners, advanced students, seniors, and children. Ilse developed her own style which is a mix of Hatha yoga, Yin yoga, (Vinyasa) Flow, Restorative and Kundalini yoga. Her classes are a combination of meditation and relaxation exercises, breathing techniques, sun salutations, Vinyasa flow variations, and Asanas.

Retreat location

During your retreat, you will stay in a restored nineteenth-century farm, Andalusian Cortijo. The finca was formerly used as an olive oil mill, powered by a watermill. The location also has a wonderful museum space. The finca is located in Alta Axarquía and has more than 600,000 square meters. The land is full of fruit and olive trees.
