Villa de Zoysa offers a two-week yoga retreat with Ayurveda treatments and meditation through out the year. We invite many leading teachers from around the world to come and teach our visitors. Under the teachers section you can find lists and a short bio with different yoga styles taught in the villa.
Yoga is practiced in the yoga shala, which is next to the house in the beautiful garden grounds. It is an open sided purpose built shala that lets natures sounds of the birds and ocean wave over you. As the beach is also so close the class is sometimes conducted on the idyllic soft sand with background of the sun setting.
All of the large, airy rooms which are beautifully designed have imposing views and are furnished with period antiques. Enjoy simple elegance with the freshly picked flowers, direct from the gardens and crisp white linen in every room. There are also numerous 'relaxation' areas providing privacy and solitude or areas to socialize with other guests.
The 14-day program comprises 11 days of yoga with Sundays being off and Wednesday afternoon free. One day either side allows you to arrive and depart at leisure. The free Sunday allows you to have a well deserve break and explore what you might do in your free time. Daily routine:
Morning yoga at 7:30 for 1.5-2 hours
Breakfast at 10:00
Free time until 17:00
Evening yoga and meditation class from 17:00-18:30
Dinner at 19:30
Galle is a major city in Sri Lanka, situated on the southwestern tip of Sri Lanka, 119 km from Colombo. Galle is the administrative capital of Southern Province, Sri Lanka and is the district capital of Galle District. It is the fourth largest city in Sri Lanka after the capital Colombo, Kandy and Jaffna.
Breakfast (usually taken after morning yoga session) is a dazzling array of fresh tropical fruits by the plateful, eggs of your choice, fresh curd with coconut treacle plus toast/roti, preserves and a choice of local teas and freshly squeezed juices.
Dinner is a sumptuous rice and curry affair, freshly prepared by the chefs, in the tradition of home cooking. A variety of at least five vegetables, together with dhal and rice is the favorite among many clients. Locally caught fish can be served for non-vegetarians. A mouth-watering fruit salad or honey-flavored bananas are the proffered deserts.
We have plenty of attractions which can be visited between yoga classes:
Five minute walk down the beach for a quiet surf spot or 15 minute bus ride to the more famous Hikkaduwa beach; 30 minute bus ride to Unawatuna, the reef laden bay.
A 300 year old Buddhist temple, a walk to the village temple on a full moon day to light coconut oil lamps, offer frangipani flowers.
15 minute bus ride to walk around the 500 year old world heritage site, or the bustling old market for vegetables and traditional herbs.
40 minutes drive in land to small yet unique plantation where silver tips, white tea is made. The traditional, fisherman on the stilts and a turtle hatchery.
We organize a picnic type rainforest meditation yoga program at the foothills, depending on the weather conditions.
