Accommodation

During this retreat, you will be staying in Vikasa Yoga Retreat with the options of private room or shared double room. Vikasa Yoga Retreat is not a luxury resort. Most of the rooms are modest and simple, with minimalistic decorations and comfortable beds. There are no televisions in the rooms or fancy minibars filled with chocolate and alcohol, but hopefully, that’s not what you want to come here for.

It is a relaxed establishment where you can unplug and reconnect to something deeper than this external world. Vikasa Yoga Retreat is a yoga retreat with accommodations, not a hotel with some yoga classes. Vikasa Koh Samui features three open-air yoga pavilions with hardwood floors and an open, breathtaking view of the sea.

Practice yoga to the soothing sounds of the ocean and the many natural and friendly visitors, breathing air that is always fresh and energized. Vikasa Yoga Retreat is proud to have some of the best yoga practice spaces in Southeast Asia.

The standard ocean rooms offer every convenience. Rest and recharge in a king-sized bed and enjoy central location and proximity to all the facilities. Interiors feature some teak wood furniture and spacious bathrooms. A stay in one of the ocean rooms is restful, relaxing, and inspiring.

Ocean room standard

The standard ocean rooms are very convenient. Rest and recharge in a king-sized bed (or request two twins) and awaken to the sounds of nature and the beautiful sunrise that will energize you for the day ahead. Step out onto your private balcony to enjoy the fresh island air, relax, and read a book or meditate and feel at one with the natural surroundings. A stay in one of the ocean rooms is restful, relaxing, and inspiring.

Please note all the ocean rooms are slightly different, you can see in the pictures interiors vary from room to room, but they are all of the same standards. Also, some have better views, while the other ones are better decorated and furnished. Either way, they are conveniently located and are the best room category.

Yoga spaces

Big sala

The Big yoga sala is one of the landmarks of Vikasa and practicing in it is an absolutely unforgettable experience. Surrounded by nature and ocean, it is hard to imagine a place for practice more perfect than this one. Sound of waves in savasana, priceless. Suitable for groups of 20 to 40 people.

Small sala

A smaller brother of the Big sala, same design, and materials. Featuring wooden doors and also situated near the ocean and a huge rock. It is smaller and therefore suitable for smaller size groups of up to 20 people.

White sala

White yoga sala is absolutely majestic. It is bright and spacious and is home for Vikasa’s regular daily yoga classes. All regular yoga classes at Vikasa are held at White sala.

Vikasa Yoga Retreat Thailand Program

This yoga retreat is a journey into daily spiritual practice. You will begin the retreat with an introduction meeting where you will get to know other like-minded yogis, as well as instructors, Kathleen Kastner and Wade Mortenson. You will start each morning with a sunrise pranayama and meditation practice, followed by an Ashtanga Mysore practice in the beautiful outdoor shala.

All levels are welcome and encouraged to work at their own pace. Your body mind and spirit will be bathed in the sounds and beauty of nature, the ocean and fresh air. You will then enjoy a delicious and healthy brunch after practice. Your days will be spent exploring the mystical island of Koh Samui with exciting group excursions, like sacred temple tours, jungle hikes, sailing, and snorkeling in the warm waters.

During your downtime, you can experience a nourishing Thai massage or other spa treatment, read, journal, or relax on the beach soaking up the sunshine and the positive energy from the ocean. In the evening before bed, you will meet up for a meditation practice under the magic of the Koh Samui moon to help prepare for a peaceful night’s sleep.

Kathleen Kastner
Kathleen is the former owners of Maya Yoga in Kansas City, MO and now reside in Encinitas, CA, the birthplace of Ashtanga Yoga in the US. Kathleen has been teaching Ashtanga for 20 years and practices with her teacher Tim Miller daily. She has completed his teacher training and has taught Ashtanga Teacher Training for ten years. She is a devotee of Paramahansa Yogananda and Self Realization Fellowship. She is also an advocate for humans, animals, and the planet.
Wade Mortenson

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Samui International Airport (USM). Vikasa is just a 15 minutes’ drive from Samui International Airport (USM). Airport pick-up is provided but not complimentary for all guests, please for more information get in contact with Vikasa Yoga Retreat.

Arrival by ferry

If you’re traveling on a budget and feeling brave, you can also reach the island via ferry from the mainland Thai city of Surat Thani. Be sure to check ferry times as the schedules are sometimes limited.
