This project is inspired by the wish of two life long friends wanting to give back to the world and live closer to nature. Through this project, Vida Pura combines their private lives and their business ideas with the same underlying philosophy; a pure lifestyle both ethically as eco-friendly. At Vida Pura, the stunning natural environment brings people closer to their own inner nature.

This beautiful land and the region around it serves as the background for retreats and self-catering accommodation. Vida Pura hopes to inspire their guests and visitors to live in a more ecological way and to give back to the world. They offer the opportunity to experience more inner peace just be being here for a relaxing holiday or in one of their health and well-being retreats. Vida Pura's doors are also wide open for other organizations wanting to organize their retreats or events.

Bamboo Apartment

The inspiration for this one-of-a-kind apartment came from the original Portuguese name of the land, ’Moinho das Canas’, which, freely translated, means cane mill. As the name suggests, a lot of cane grows here and Vida Pura used this material to decorate this apartment. The use of other natural building materials, such as cork, wood, and stone, gives the apartment a truly harmonious feel.

Natural Elements Apartment

As the name suggests, the natural elements apartment draws inspiration from the beauty of nature. The bedroom design incorporates the famous cork oaks of Portugal, a beautiful mosaic and wood finishes, while the bathroom is styled on the stunning vistas of the desert complete with sand dunes created with Moroccan plastering techniques. The open-plan living room and kitchen area with also boast many natural elements, such as cork, stone, and wood.

Recycle Art Apartment

As the name suggests, the recycle art apartment has been decorated and furnished with recycled and re-used materials that have been designed into the apartment in an artful way. The design of this wonderfully unique living space brings together a wealth of surprising materials.

The bedroom design incorporates a chestnut wooden bed mixed with 18th century carved posts from India. The bathroom has a sink made from an old wine press and the floor is made of slices of pine wood mixed with reused wine bottle tops. The living tops it off with the sofa made out of recycled jeans and in the kitchen a surfboard acts as one of the kitchen shelves.

Vida Pura guesthouse

The Vida Pura villa turns into a guesthouse format in low and mid seasons. This means you can rent each bedroom individually and the common areas such as kitchen, living room, and outside area become shared facilities.

The Vida Pura guesthouse offers the serenity room with en-suite bathroom and two smaller bedrooms, the inspiration room, and the contemplation room that share one bathroom. Each bedroom has its own outdoor access great for doing yoga, reading a good book, or just relaxing in the hammock and taking in the ambiance.

The guesthouse is equipped with a kitchen with a sink, utensils, oven, fridge or freezer and gas cooker, living area, dining area and table with 10 seats, big couch, a TV with 80 satellite channels, a DVD player, herb garden, large glass doors that give access to a 100-square-meter wooden deck, and on the south a terrace of Santa Catarina tiles.

Vida Pura has two great yurts. Historically built to withstand the long winters of Mongolia, yurts have recently experienced a surge in popularity throughout the world. Humble yet luxurious, these durable dwellings hold particular appeal for those wanting comfortable and spacious accommodation with a low environmental impact.

For those of you wanting to be close to nature, it does not come much better than this. Let the sounds of the great outdoors and the songs of nightingales lull you off to sleep and gently awaken to more wonderful bird songs in the morning. Truly, yurt living makes for an unforgettably relaxing night’s rest.

Yurts offer large central window, two single beds which can be combined into a double bed, a sofa, a dining table with two chairs, wood burner, light, electricity, an outside chill area, compost toilet, shared bathroom with warm showers and flushing toilet, kitchen, living room, internet, a grill, and an herbal section.

The yoga deck will provide you with soaring views of the surrounding countryside, the perfect space for a carefully developed yoga practice suitable for both experienced yogis and those new to the practice. Whether you prefer a dynamic flow with Vinyasa or a Hatha practice in which you will learn more about controlling the body and the breath, a deep meditative Yin aiming at the energetic body and connective tissues, or an intense challenge with Ashtanga, each day you will have the opportunity to experience new styles and new teachers. Your inner yogi will see its needs met.

All yoga classes will teach you more about pranayama breathing techniques, meditation, shapes or postures, and asanas. Yoga classes will be held daily, in the morning. You will always have the option to intensify your practice, whether you are new to yoga or more advanced with afternoon classes.

You will have plenty of free time to spend either through activities such as taking a surf lesson, riding waves at the marvelous beach of Odeceixe, or hiking one of the many routes of the Rota Vicentina, an awarded network of walking trails in southwest Portugal along the beautiful coastline. You can also relax completely by sunbathing at the beach, strolling around the endearing town of Odeceixe, or treating yourself with a de-stressing treatment from one of the partner therapists.

Ashtanga yoga

Ashtanga yoga is a 5,000-yearold set sequence of postures designed to bring incredible strength, flexibility, and endurance to the body and a sense of stillness to the mind. You can learn the fundamentals of Ashtanga yoga, sun salutations, ujjayi breath, energy locks, and Vinyasa. Ashtanga can also invoke positive life transformations off the mat, helping you to live fully with a deep sense of self in your daily life.

Hatha yoga

Hatha yoga is the most widely practiced form of yoga in the world. It uses asana, postures, and pranayama conscious breathing in combination with mental focus to develop awareness, strength, flexibility, and relaxation. Through proper alignment and mindful actions of the body, Hatha yoga brings balance, strength, and a sense of well-being to the practitioner.

Typical day

Have your pre-yoga breakfast with some of the home-grown herbal teas, lemon water, coffee, or have fruit or yogurt. Head to the yoga deck, start your day energized and renewed with your daily morning yoga lesson. Each day, different styles will be offered, either Vinyasa, Hatha, Ashtanga, or Yin. Spending your free time whenever you want with sunbathing, surfing, strolling, shopping, chilling, getting a massage, or some more yoga.

Vida Pura is located in the middle of a reserve close to the town of Odeceixe and its marvelous beach. During the day and especially at night, it is so quiet you can hear a pin drop. The nocturnal animals sing their songs and the stream that divides the Algarve and the Alentejo trickles endlessly over the land. You can take great hikes by the river stream and up or down the valley.

The Odeceixe beach is the first award-winning beach in the huge natural park that surrounds it. The beach is great for surfing, body boarding, and sunbathing. At the riverside, the ocean’s waves are cancelled out and harness great opportunity for families with smaller kids. If you want some more movement but not too much, you can take a bike, walk, or drive to Odeceixe, a little sleepy town but vibrant in summer.

Around the area, traditionalism is very tangible and agriculture and fishery are one of the main activities. It is an area where you can still find donkeys ploughing the fields and the fish is served straight from the boat onto your plate.

    Wonderful eco-lodge with awesome hosts

PROS Pros: Bella and Robin are beautiful people with vibrant and kind personalities. Wonderful place to relax in absolutely stunning nature and do yoga. Also fun to meet hikers at the lodge as they walk along the Rota Vicentina, since the lodge is near Odeceixe. This lodge is great for exploring nature in rural Portugal, surfing, or shopping/exploring smaller towns since afternoons are free (yoga in the morning, plus fresh, tasty, & big breakfast). The Fisherman's Trail of the Rota Vicentina is lovely in the spring time with great temperature and new blossoms. Thanks again, Bela and Robin, for sharing your eco lifestyle with outsiders! Wish I could have stayed even longer. Hope to come back someday. Peace.

CONS Cons: No negatives, at all.

PROS Pros: I can't fault Vida Pura. We knew it was going to be good but when we got there it bypassed our expectations. The team are so welcoming and friendly, and I can only describe the backdrop as a natural paradise. I have never felt so relaxed in my life. Everything is thought about and your needs are attended to - breakfast is already waiting for you once you have finished the yoga session, which itself is incredible. The apartments are perfect, very large but still cosy and a huge private terrace to enjoy the morning and evening sun. Odeceixe is very close, but far enough that you feel you are in your own world. I didn't want to leave and am already planning my return.
