There’s really no “typical day” in Costa Rica - everything is laid back and easy, Pura Vida style – but a day will include morning yoga, breakfast, lunch, lounge time, afternoon/evening yoga, and dinner. Did we mention all of the food is super fresh and amazing! Other activities throughout the day might include a trip into town for a fresh coconut to drink, surfing, stand up paddle boarding, lounging on the beach, drinking a beer in the hammock, bird watching for parrots, listening to the sounds of the jungle, white water rafting, zip-lining, and basking in the glorious sun! (remember, it’s January everywhere else… brrr!)
During this retreat, you will stay at Vida Asana School of Yoga. Vida Asana is an eco-resort that specializes in yoga retreats, surf camps, mountain bike adventures, and a healthy sustainable lifestyle. Their goal is to create a happy environment that supports education, mindfulness, and adventure. It is founded and built by Alejandro and Rose in 2002, at that time, it was one of the first yoga retreat centers on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica.
Since then, Vida Asana has grown into a beautiful retreat center and eco-resort, providing a combination of lodging, fresh organic meals, as well as yoga, surfing, and mountain biking vacations. Their guests enjoy a simple and mindful experience that is often lacking in their daily lives. They encourage the guests to soak up the sounds, smells, and visually appealing landscape, while letting go and allowing their soul room to breath.
Vida Asana is also dedicated to the local community. Both their guests and full-time residents often engage in garden building and other sustainable community building programs. Their current primary causes are BJJ Jaco and Costas Verdes. BJJ Jaco teaches the children the joys of physical fitness, discipline, and mindfulness, while Costas Verdes ensures this beautiful land is here to enjoy when they are older.
During this retreat, you will practice two daily yoga classes taught by Rachel VerValin and Lara Green, including Vinyasa Flow, Restorative, pranayama, and meditation. In addition to that, you will also be able to participate in surf or stand up paddleboard lessons, detoxifying sweat lodge, and also several exciting excursion trips.
This retreat will be held in Playa Hermosa, Jacó, Costa Rica. The retreat site is tucked away in the rainforest, less than a mile from the beach, and blends perfectly with the jungle environment. Playa Hermosa itself is a quiet surfing community, located between the beach towns of Jaco and Manuel Antonio, about 90 minutes south of Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO). This location allows the guests to enjoy a wide range of activities if they choose to venture off of the property.
During this retreat, you will be served three daily organic meals including breakfast, lunch, and dinner with vegan, vegetarian, and pescatarian options.
With two mountain bike parks, endless mountain trials, and miles of dirt roads all around, Vida Asana is a fantastic place for you to go mountain biking. They have experienced local guides that will make sure you get all of the riding you can handle.
The beaches of Jaco and Playa Hermosa are internationally known surf destinations. Jaco is primarily the domain of neophytes, who take advantage of the relatively calm and consistent wave produced at high tide, to learn in a safe environment. Playa Hermosa produces powerful waves all year round. The three and a half mile beachfront opens up to swells from all directions. Playa Hermosa attracts top surfers from around the world, who come not only for the frequent surf contests, but also to enjoy the consistent waves, warm water, and friendly community of Playa Hermosa.
At an additional cost, you can also treat yourself to some massages, Reiki treatments, Ayurvedic massage, acupuncture, facials, and wraps sessions available at the retreat center.
Please book your flight to arrive at Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO). Transfer from and to the airport is included if you arrive by 12.00 p.m. Vida Asana Yoga Retreat will pick you up from the airport.
