Rosemarie Gonzales Gainza is a holistic health practitioner, a certified yoga teacher, and the founder and owner of the Vida Asana Retreat Center in Costa Rica. Her style of yoga combines principles of Ashtanga, Bikram, and Anusara yoga which is creating a strong, healthy, and happy flow.
Alejandra is from San Jose, Costa Rica. She began practicing yoga at an early age and realized she wanted to dedicate her life to this discipline. Her foundations are Ashtanga, Vinyasa, and Anusara yoga. Alejandra is a passionate teacher and she enjoys teaching in the beautiful coast of Costa Rica.
Catalina is originally from the beautiful country of Costa Rica. Catalina found yoga after giving birth to her first child in 2003 which was, of course, a time of change in her life. Catalina masters types of yoga like Hatha, Ashtanga, and Vinyasa yoga.
Rachel originally came to the mat in 2002 during her undergrad years at Rochester Institute of Technology because it was an incredible workout. Rachel has a love for travel, and every new place she visits, she tries out the local yoga class. She has practiced with Anusara, Jivamukti, Iyengar, Ashtanga, Svaroopa, and Vinyasa teachers all over the country. She created Heart Thread Yoga in May 2014. Rachel has led five successful yoga retreats in Costa Rica and the Finger Lakes Wine region. She is super excited to be sharing her love and knowledge of yoga with her teacher trainees.
Raleigh native Diala was introduced to yoga in 2011 while earning her B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics. After a few classes, she noticed a shift in her mind and body. This shift sparked her curiosity about the philosophy of yoga and led her to complete her 200-hour yoga teacher training in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. In an immersion program, she studied the practices which ultimately help one become their most humble and content selves. In November 2018 she earned her 300-hour certification at Akhanda Yoga School in Rishikesh, India.
Using the power of the ancient wisdom of yoga to heal yourselves as a way to contribute to healing the world is at the core of all of Lauren’s teachings. She firmly believes that you can honor and care for your individual self and needs while still honoring and supporting the collective community that you create. She openly shares her love, compassion, playfulness, and joy through a holistic and balanced approach taught to her by her teacher, Himalayan Yoga Master Yogrishi Vishveketu who developed Akhanda Yoga. Akhanda means whole, indivisible, which applies not only to each individual.

"Life Food Relax "
The beautiful and restful surroundings with the family of beautiful Vida Asana people made these few days a highlight in my visit for the first time to Costa Rica. The welcoming nature of everyone made me feel safe and at peace. Thanks to all at Vida Asana.

"Didn't want to leave"
Vida Asana is a welcoming, comfortable environment. The room was clean, and the grounds were well kept. There were places to go off and be by myself or hang out with others if I wanted. Everything was very laid back and relaxing. Sean is extremely helpful and facilitated whatever activities I wanted to do. Everyone there was warm and friendly. The food was delicious and plentiful.

I was so amazed at everything we experienced at this retreat. Lovely people and wonderful activities. There's a strong sense of family between everyone who works or visits there, which makes it feel like home. I cannot recommend it enough.

"Amazing people at an amazing place"
Everyone at Vida Asana is kind, helpful, and on an interesting life journey. Even if you ended up at Vida Asana alone, with no other guests, the staff are more than accessible and friendly. We spent several hours chatting with the owner, Sean and coordinator, Frank. It truly is a special place. And it helps that the food is always fresh and delicious.

"Everything and more"
I liked how welcoming everyone was! Everyone introduced themselves and made you feel right at home and comfortable. Everyone being the staff and the guests! The staff were so kind, encouraging, happy, and really did all that they can to make your stay perfect for you. Not only did the staff work hard to give you the best time but also were super personal and you could have meaningful and deep conversations with them. It was really special.

This was my first yoga retreat - novice to yoga. I was welcomed with open arms from the second I walked in. You are sorrounded by nature, amazing food, bicycles on property to ride along the beach. Sean, Frank and Rachel make you feel like part of the Asana Family. It was much more than I expected and would recommend to anyone looking to escape, disconnect and reflect. I look forward to going back!

"Recommend to anyone!"
The food that Adriana makes is totally amazing!! So much flavor you won’t even realize you’re eating vegan. Frank is very organized and is exceptional at getting any and all activities scheduled for you.
Alexis has made an impressive garden and if you go, ask him for a little tour.
Sean has a big heart and it’s very apparent. I hope to see you all again! :)

"Vida Asana Amazing"
This place was everything that I was looking for and more. I booked it while on a 3 month vacation in Costa Rica and I didn't want to leave. The owners were amazing, helpful and made me feel a part of their family. The food was excellent. So much nutritious food to eat and beautiful coffee to drink. I went surfing, yoga, the sweat lodge, biking, hiking, Rainmaker and also had a great night of live music in Playa Hermosa. They were all about the details to even the nicest soaps for the shower. for the five nights I was there, I was relaxed, rejuvenated and inspired.

"Yoga teacher training"
The location, the staff, the food and the course were all absolutely wonderful. I had an incredible time at Vida Asana and left feeling happy, healthy and full of yoga knowledge.

"inspirational and transformational"
Very good at teaching technique and inspiring students

"200hr YTT awakenings"
I loved the philosophy aspect of the course and also the challenge that came with the physical practice which really went back to foundations as well as more advanced asanas.
The variety of topics covered and level of detail was at a decent level to understand concepts but not to get post in the detail.
The style of asana practice with physicAL adjustments between students was super helpful.
The food a Vida Asana was delightful thanks to the amazing staff and the owner and his family go out of theor way to make you feel at home.
Would 100% visit again.
Powerful energy, real transformation

"A difficult place to leave!"
I'm not sure where to begin. It's the beginning of June (officially rainy season) and I just spent 6 days at Vida Asana for the yoga/surf retreat with my sister. A brief word on the climate during this time - I truly enjoyed the rainy season weather with mostly sunshine in the morning and refreshing showers in the late afternoon. This was my first trip to Costa Rica and it certainly will not be my last.
Sean, Jess, and Juju have created a magical place of Vida Asana and brought together an incredible staff to go along with it. We were treated with such warmth and kindness by every single person at Vida Asana, especially Adrianna and Alexis. Thank you so much for all that you did for me - giving me fresh aloe from the garden for a sunburn and making me a special tea when I had an upset stomach, to name a few.
I am already missing the bike rides to Playa Hermosa, the breath-taking beach next to Vida Asana, and the daily yoga sessions. For reference, I'm athletic but had little formal yoga prior to this trip. The yoga, the instructors, and other yoga-goers brought me so much peace and joy that I must make this a practice in my daily life.
I strongly recommend going on the Rain Maker excursion with the tour guide Luiz. This is a guided tour through suspension brides and waterfalls in the rainforest that left my sister and I humbled by the natural beauty of Costa Rica.
I cannot end this review without mentioning the expertly-crafted, healthy, and delicious food; the coffee and the distilled water, kombucha, ginger beer, nitro cold-brew coffee and beer on tap; and the amazing soap/shampoo in the rooms!
