This retreat will be held in Karterados, Santorini, Greece. Caveland or a "tennis club" is a former four-star hotel and a tennis club which was refurbished and re-opened in 2011 as a boutique hostel. It is a 15,000-square meter large complex situated in a picturesque village of Karterados just next to Fira town which is the capital of the island. It lies on the main bus route connecting Fira with the south of the island, and therefore, is ideal if you wish to discover the island and still be away from the crowds.
The retreat includes daily morning vegetarian brunch with a variety of fruit and home-made pastry, all served as a buffet in the garden. After the first evening class on Monday, you will go together for a dinner to a local tavern. This meal is not included in the price for the retreat. It will be a friendly welcome dinner, you all will split the bill.
Your budget should be 20 to 25 EUR per person, with a glass of local wine included. This dinner is not compulsory, however, you are welcomed to participate so you all can know each other better.
To get to Karterados with a local bus is very easy, the hostel is the second last stop before Fira town (island’s capital) of every bus coming from any location in the south of the island. If you take a local bus, you purchase your ticket inside the bus. The fare is 2.20 EUR from Athinios port and 1.60 EUR from Thira airport. These buses are scheduled in direct accordance with the ferry and plane schedules.
They are operated by KTEL and are typically a blue or green color. In Karterados, please ask the bus driver to stop you at the fork at Multimedia market or Zotos bakery. After getting off, then you just follow the walking instructions.
Karterados is about five minutes' drive and 25 minutes' walk from Fira. Leaving Fira town behind you, take the downhill road on your left and continue all the way down for about five to seven minutes. You will pass a police station, a windmill, and two mini markets. Still continue all the way downhill until you see two tennis courts, Caveland sign, and vineyards. The Caveland sign is a small wooden sign that you will see on your left on your eye level.
If you take a taxi, ask them to bring you to the tennis club, which is the name CAVELAND used to have from the early 80s and is well known to local taxi drivers. You should not pay more than 20 EUR one way. Please ask the bus driver to stop you at the fork at Multimedia market or Zotos bakery.
Renting a vehicle immediately upon arrival and drive you here is yet another option. Rental prices vary depending on vehicle model, and rental agency, but you can expect a price between 20 EUR and 40 EUR per day.
