The retreat location is an oasis far from civilization to allow for stillness and quietness to unfold before your eyes. Get ready to be amazed by the shooting stars and birds singing. The surrounding nature is mesmerizing and unique. Sri Lanka is one of the best bird watching spots in the world. Whether you are a dedicated ornithologist or new to bird spotting, Sri Lanka’s wildlife will have you amazed.

The retreat will be held at Vayu Resort on Mannar Island. Vayu Resort Mannar is situated on the historical Adam’s Bridge, allowing the birdwatchers to enjoy not just Sri Lanka’s fauna and flora but also India’s wildlife including migrating birds and endangered species. You can observe the beautiful aquatic birds inhabiting the turquoise water area surrounding Vayu Resort.

You will see greater flamingos, black-tailed godwits, garganeys, pintail ducks, gulls, plovers, and terns all in flocks of several hundred. You will also see so many raptors such as white-bellied sea eagles, brahminy kites, black kites, and common kestrels. In addition, you can see crab plovers and pied avocets. You can simply head out from your bungalow and observe all these. It’s a bird watchers paradise.

Mannar is a hidden gem on a small sand island at the northern tip of Sri Lanka known for its baobab trees and for its fort, built by the Portuguese in 1560. The white sand on Mannar Island is covered by beautiful little shells and the area is aptly and lovingly named Shell Coast by the locals. Talaimannar, the main town is 18 miles away from India and used to be a center of trade and sea routes. Baobab trees and donkeys are a reminder of this even to this date, that traders from Arabia frequented this place.

The retreat will be offering wholesome and nourishing vegan food, organically sourced where possible and inspired by traditional Sri Lankan cuisine. The retreat food is designed to allow your body to feel light and nourished equally. It includes only the cleanest natural plant-based ingredients. Everything is vegan and there will be plenty of gluten-free options as well. Please let Vayu Yoga Retreat know if you have any other dietary requirements and they will try to accommodate those.
