The trip begins in the culturally rich city of Cusco where we meet before heading to the Sacred Valley. Youll spend five days exploring the sites and vibrant Quechua markets in this beautiful valley surrounded by the awe-inspiring Andes mountains. Your mind, body, and spirit will be opened through daily yoga sessions and you will connect to the powerful healing energy of mother nature at an idyllic retreat lodge.

You will then cross the valley to Ollantaytambo where you take a scenic train ride along the Urubamba River to arrive at Aguas Calientes, your base from where you tour Machu Picchu. Your travel ends back in Cusco walking through the cobblestone streets, taking in the fusion of the ancient and modern cultures of Peru.

The Yoga

A 1.5 - 2 hour yoga session will be held daily during your time at the lodge in the Sacred Valley. The style of yoga practiced is Vinyasa flow in combination with Restorative yoga. There is a powerful energy that is felt in this area of the Sacred Valley which is an ideal and conducive setting to reflect openly and to explore on a deeper level one's yoga practice. The fresh Andes mountain air energizes the mind and body and the inspiring views give a feel of a freedom from time. Here you will experience a transformative connection to nature and self.

Sandra Tedeschi

A few years ago, while on a sabbatical from her previous career job, an idea was ignited that serendipitously led Sandra Tedeschi to change her path. In 2005, beginning a new venture, she founded Vajra Sol Yoga Adventures.'

Prior to settling in Costa Rica, Sandra worked several years in South Asia, Africa, and U.S. cities in the humanitarian aid field. From her experiences working in often high paced and pressured work environments she learned the great value of a regular yoga practice to maintain balance in daily living. She received a university degree in Foreign Language and International Trade and a Masters in International Public Health and Development.

She has been practicing yoga for over fifteen years and teaches Vinyasa flow yoga with influences from other types and teachers she has studied with over the years. She received her advanced teacher training in Interdisciplinary Yoga from the Nosara Yoga Institute and is certified with the internationally recognized Yoga Alliance.

Sandra has a great affinity for travel to far off places and many outdoor activities. Currently she is having a great time learning to surf and stand-up paddle. "I found Vajra Sol Yoga Adventures online by accident, and I do believe that I was meant to be here and experience all that Costa Rica and Sandra from Vajra Sol Adventures had to offer. As someone who is typically a mega-planner, I threw caution to the wind and just went with the flow and kept an open mind to any new and exciting adventures that lie ahead and it was incredible. I went as a solo traveler and I felt safe at all times. I made some fantastic connections with others at the retreat. I felt like there was a good balance of downtime to read books in hammocks or sit on the beach or by the pool and then also do our SUP/Suft & yoga activities. Practicing yoga in the yoga shala was an experience I will never forget. There was a different energy that I felt during savasina. Our SUP instructors Juan and Guido were the absolute best. I never thought I would be doing SUP in the Pacific Ocean in Costa Rica while looking at the rainforest along the coast while butterflys flew around our heads....just magical. "

"We had a free day to do some tourning, I overcame a fear of driving a Quad and went on the most amazing trek with our group to Montezuma and had a fun zip line tour, jumped off a small waterfall and saw the most amazing coastline views."

"The Pranamar Villas were gorgeous and you quickly get used to life with geckos, hermit crabs, mountain crabs and of course the early rising howler monkeys! I loved the poolside bungalow and the outdoor shower! It is the rainforest and it can be hot and very humid, but it didn't slow us down any. The bedrooms are air conditioned which was quite nice. I enjoyed the early morning hours on the beach going for a run and exploring - it was breathtaking."

"I can't say enough abut Sandra and her attentiveness to each of us, she has a very special gift. I came on the retreat looking to put somethings in the past and begin anew, I left with a true sense of renewal and I haven't stopped smiling since I got back. Pura Vida & Namaste!"

"This was my third retreat with Sandra and Vajra Sol Yoga Adventures and it just keeps getting better. It truly is an adventure: from your trip to Santa Teresa through the jungle, to surfing in the WARM waters of the Pacific on the most stunning beach, to the outdoor yoga sessions surrounded by the unique sounds of Costa Rican wildlife in the distance...there's really nothing else like it. It was mango season, so mangoes were falling all around us. They were quickly scooped up by the Pranamar kitchen staff and transformed into delicious salsa which would accompany the freshly caught fish for dinner! Sandra, the surf instructors, and the Pranamar staff go out of their way to make you comfortable and happy. Everyone learns your name very quickly. Being part of a group of "strangers" is such a good experience. By the end of the week, new friendships and wonderful memories are formed. You can make this retreat as active or restful as you like. There is no pressure, ever, and you can feel completely comfortable travelling solo. It's a special place, that's for sure :) I love it!"

"I spent a wonderful, relaxing, spiritual but super fun week at Sandra's Vajra Sol Yoga Adventures. The Pranamar Villa grounds are spectacular but not in a fancy, stuffy kind of a way but rather a natural, beautiful way. I just loved the Villa #2 that I stayed in that had an AMAZING outdoor shower!! The food was all local, fresh, healthy and delicious. The fresh juices with each meal were a great treat. However the highlight of this place truly is the staff. Each one was warm and genuine. A highlight for me was the massages in the hut on the beach - Marisol was the best ever!! "

"Sandra is a joy to be around; she makes you feel comfortable and welcome. She did a great job of setting up the yoga, SUP and surfing activity schedule. You could be as active as you like or just enjoy the surroundings (which I did a lot of). It is very evident that she cares about each of her guests experience. There were 14 or so other participants in the retreat....and what a great bunch of individuals!! People traveled from different places in the US as well as UK, France and Australia. It was so wonderful to meet and bond with these folks. All around is was a very enjoyable experience that I'll remember for many years to come."

"I had the honor of traveling to Costa Rica yet again. This was my 5th time with Vajra Sol and I loved every moment of it. Sandra is over accommodating to your needs. The scene and location of your villa and yoga experience is out of this world and you feel like you are completely on a retreat of a lifetime. Trust me, this is the best retreat out there for YOGA, SUPING and Surfing. You will not regret this experience. See you next year!"

"My friend and I had decided in February to go on a yoga retreat and booked one with another company. Less than a month to go we received an email that the retreat had been cancelled and so began the hunt for another retreat. It was our good fortune to find Vajra Sol Adventures and Sandra. She graciously answered all our questions and so with less than 4 weeks out, we booked for her Costa Rica retreat. I honestly can't say enough about Sandra and the retreat experience. From our pick up at the Tambor airport, to the accommodations, the food, the yoga and SUP and surfing, everything was beyond fantastic! Did I mention how delicious the food was?!? I would recommend this retreat for anyone who wants to relax and recharge and reconnect with nature and themselves. Can't wait to go back!"

"I just came back from Peru with Sandra and a group of travelers looking for yoga, culture, adventure and time to reflect. This trip delivered that and more. Sandra was not only a lovely person and host but also a great yoga teacher, caring, very organized, detail oriented, and very resourceful. She did not miss a beat which in turn allowed all of us to truly let go and enjoyed this mystical and spectacular country along with tons of laughing and new friends. I highly recommend this adventure with Vajra Sol Yoga and I am already contemplating another one with her next year in Costa Rica."

"This was my 4th trip back to Costa Rica through Vajra Sol Yoga Adventures. Sandra takes great care of us and is an inspiring spiritual yoga instructor. The food is excellent, fresh, healthy. Spending everyday learning how to surf and practicing yoga places you in a constant vibrant good spirit. Rest filled sleeps every evening and always the opportunity to make new friends and reconnect with old friends if you are a returning guest. Did I mention you receive a complimentary massage as part of the package as well. If I could rate this 10 circles in place of 5 I would."

"The Vajra Sol Retreat in Santa Teresa Costa Rica is an amazing option for a get away if you are looking to have some fun and find some inner peace. The retreat guide, Sandra, is incredibly caring and ensures you are always looked after. The yoga is amazing and suits all people at all levels of their practice, there is no pressure to be a master yogi but the yoga is deeply fulfilling and it is clear Sandra is an extremely advanced yoga teacher. The surf instructors Sandra has personally hired to give lessons are amazing people with huge personalities. They make for a really fun experience - even if you have never surfed before! The people of Santa Teresa in general are incredibly kind and engaging - there is an awesome energy in that place and a great philosophy of life. The food on this retreat was delicious and quite healthy - the fruit is always perfectly ripe and the fish is super fresh - nothing like we get in North America! I felt cleansed after a week of yoga, surfing, and healthy eating. All in all this retreat has got to be one of the absolute best out there - you will meet many like minded people and feel an ongoing sense of community and care on this retreat. You will have lots of options for fun activities on the beach or can you can just relax and enjoy some peace and quiet if you so choose!I sincerely hope that anyone considering a retreat will go with Vajra Sol - I have no doubts that you will love it!"

"Everything I wanted in a retreat I got! I was able to keep my surfboard and surf up to three times a day and do the daily yoga with our group. Sandra even let me keep the board an extra two days after the retreat and never charged me! My surf instructors Eric and Mike were excellent and fun to surf with. The daily yoga classes with Sandra and Jill were surreal and the best I've every done. The studio is in front of the ocean and yet surrounded by lush trees. The food is healthy, tasty, and we had variety every day. Don't forget to drink the young fresh coconuts! We went four wheeling into town and stopped at various places including a swim up bar on a cliff overlooking the ocean, stopped at banana beach for sunset mojitos. Anything you needed or wanted Sandra was there to make it happen! Oh! and the massage on the beach from Merissa were heavenly, I found myself in the deepest relaxation my body and mind has ever been in; I recommend getting 90 minutes. Some girls took it easy and got massages every day and other girls like me wanted to cram as much surf, yoga, and activities I could in a day! Whatever's important for you. I came back feeling deeply encouraged, refreshed, and renewed! Thanks to everyone who made it special."

"My wife selected Vajra Sol Yoga adventures (Costa Rica) for our winter getaway trip. My wife practices yoga frequently, but for myself being a non-yogi and someone who cannot sit on a beach for long periods of time, this was the perfect adventure for both of us. Sandra does a great job with everything, including helping you understand the culture and ways of the Costa Rican people, coordinating transportation and lessons, and giving recommendations of other activities to do. You can really make the trip as active or as inactive as you would like, with no pressure. All of the yoga teachers, spa employees, and SUP and surf instructors, were fantastic and also came to socialize during meals and at night to get to know all of us. We would definitely recommend this adventure for anyone traveling to Costa Rica, and we have already talked about when we will join Sandra in Peru!"

"My experience with Vajra Sol was amazing and worth every penny. Most importantly I found it incredibly relaxing and fun. In addition, the surfing and yoga classes were appropriately challenging for everyone from new-bees to more seasoned practitioners. And finally the surfing is done an a nice sandy beach so you don't have to worry about hitting reef after you inevitably fall.Pranamar is a beautiful location for this trip with very friendly staff and delicious meals. I had no idea healthy food could taste that good. Lastly Sandra, who organizes everything, is wonderful. The trip days seamless with zero stress, and she helps to organize delicious dinners in town as well as arrivals and departures, and other activities on our days off. I wouldn't hesitate go back"

"My week at Vajra Sol Yoga Adventures far exceeded my expectations! I spent the week in a beach front bungalow with my mom, doing yoga and surfing everyday, eating incredible and healthy cuisine, connecting with a wonderful group of people, and really being granted the time to find my balance and center again. The beautiful location and accommodations made this journey even more zen. Sandra was one of the best yoga instructors I've ever practiced with. She has a radiant light and energy that is contagious, she was knowledgable, spiritual, and a great surf buddy too! Now, two weeks later, talking with my mom and the special people I connected with there, that I now call friends, we are all on board to return together to this retreat next year. I highly recommend Vajra Sol Yoga Adventures and cannot wait to go back!"

  • Review by Jaime from Philadelphia, USA

"I was looking for a retreat where I could mark a special transition in my life, feel safe traveling alone, and be surrounded by peace and beauty with just the right amount of physical challenge. The reviews here on Trip Advisor settled my decision to go with Sandra and Vajra Sol Yoga Adventures - and I was not lead astray! I'm not exaggerating when I say that my week was one of the most relaxing, invigorating, beautiful experiences of my life.I opted for pure yoga (though I hear the surfing lessons were awesome too) and the classes were easily modified so any level practitioner could get a great mind and body workout. The yoga studio, an open air shala surrounded by banana trees and looking out towards the ocean, was exquisite. A few especially pleasant surprises: the setting was more beautiful than I ever imagined. Lots of wood, huge palms, and tropical birds, plenty of open windows with bamboo shades, and impeccable housekeeping. I also couldn't believe how quickly I bonded with my fellow travelers. Everyone had an energy of openness and kindness about them that even though I was traveling by myself, I was surrounded by new friends. I was also blown away by the food. I was a little nervous about my celiac issues, but the Pranamar chefs are outstanding. Just outstanding! Not only did I dine on the freshest, healthiest, most nourishing, and delicious juices, smoothies, and meals, but I was inspired to try to replicate some of the recipes back home (Ive failed). What I really valued the most about the retreat was that we could make our days as chill or as vigorous as we wanted. Nothing was mandatory, there were no militant itineraries we had to follow. Classes and meals were at set times, but if we wanted to stroll on the beach or nap in a hammock instead it was totally fine. The only words of caution I might offer (though please dont let any of this deter you) is that the resort isnt very easy to get to. The flight from San Jose to Tambor is not for the faint of heart, and the drive from Tambor to Pranamar is a bumpy one. Bring your sea bands and you should be fine! Also, because of the open-air nature of the resort, be prepared for the occasional bug or lizard to cross your path, maybe while youre brushing your teeth. Its all good! Pura vida!"

We adored our cozy accommodations ...The staff there was very friendly & helpful. The surf instruction was exceptional. "After trying to find a trip that would accommodate my friend's desire to practice yoga and my request for a surf trip, it just seemed too good to be true that we were able to find Vajra Sol that would be able to accommodate both. Everything about planning this trip was so easy and effortless and it had a lot to do with how amazing Sandra, our retreat leader, was. She answered all the questions we needed, and quite honestly, this is probably the quickest decision I've ever made in regards to traveling for a real vacation. The moment we stepped onto the Pranamar Villa compound, I felt like I stepped into a world that I know my body and mind was looking for. It took me a while to really let go of the fact that I was going to be away from work, but with the help of my new friends, I was able to submerge myself into the beauty and the environment that was surrounding me.Sandra was a wonderful yoga instructor! She was able to lead a class with students of all different levels of experience (like myself). Monica is truly a sweetheart and her energy is so positive. Sandra and Monica's passion for their job and their outlook on life is so inspirational. I definitely want to come back just to be around them. The concept of the Pranamar 5 stars all the way. From our villa just steps from the pool, the friendly wait staff who knew our names throughout the week, and the fascinating stories from Susan the owner, this place is everything you can ask for and more. Every meal that we had at the Pranamar was exceptional. And the meals that we had at the local restaurants were just as satisfying. After not surfing for many years, the surf sessions were definitely tough. I do feel like the instructors pushed us and really made it a fun experience. I have many battle wounds from the ocean and my board, but it was all worth it.Our group was seriously "the bomb"! We were a small group that instantly clicked. It's not often you meet people and think that you've known them for years. We shared numerous laughs and experiences that I can always look back on and I am truly blessed to have met everyone.I could go on and on about Vajra Sol , but it's one of those things people have to experience themselves to understand why this trip is so life changing. I've traveled to many places around the world and although I don't like going to places i've already been to, this is an exception. I can't wait to come back and experience it all again. Thanks Sandra and Monica for everythin! Pura Vida!"
