Upaya Yoga Rishikesh is situated at Him River Resort. It provides an ashram lifestyle away from the crowds to make sure that students can focus on yoga and meditation study. The center lies at the scenic confluence of the Ganga and Him rivers in the Himalayan foothills above Rishikesh. Located along an ancient pilgrimage route into the headwaters of the Ganga just six kilometers from Luxman near golf course Rapid in the vicinity of Phool Chatti ashram.

Surrounded by mountains from all four sides, Him River Resort Rishikesh has unique clay cottages with A/C that are decorated in a simple but comfortable manner with 24-hour electricity attached bath with hot and cold shower and running tap water. The cottages are designed to ensure that each one enjoys every moment of their stay. The resort has an open-air yoga shala in their gardens and an A/C yoga shala by the river for the hot season. They also offer the room cleaning, toilet paper, and towels.

Krishna Krishnaji
Yoga Alliance International (Yoga)
Upaya Yoga was founded by Krishna, who has a vast experience in imparting lessons in yoga under its different forms and styles. He is a certified yoga teacher from Yoga Alliance USA and Yoga Alliance International India. His yogic art forms come out as a combination of Ashtanga, Shivananda, and Hatha yoga. Krishna's attraction towards the traditional meditation became strong when he started to attend the Osho international meditation resort in Pune.
Aradhana Yogini
Aradhana has studied yoga at the Sivananda yoga Vedanta Dhanwantari Ashram in Neyyar Dam, completing a yoga Siromani. She went on to complete a master of yoga at the same institute in Madurai. She is an advanced practitioner of Hatha yoga and she has been teaching asana, meditation, and pranayama for the last five years. She also has experience teaching Yin yoga and Power yoga. She is a proficient speaker of Japanese, Hindi, Gujarati, and English.
Alida Maugeri
Alida is Italian originally from Catania. Her journey into yoga started four years ago in London to eventually bring her to India in the search for a superior meaning beyond this now worldwide acclaimed word yoga. She now firmly believes that yoga is a secure way for self-discovery, personal growth, and positive changing. Alida’s class aim to guide the practitioners closer to the self by moving into a flow where breath and asana can harmoniously merge together.
Vivek Kalura
Vivek’s classes are safe and extremely precise as he always keeps on eye on the alignment of his students. He is capable of calibrating the class according to the level of his students making even the more challenging ashtanga yoga accessible to everyone. Indeed his passion for yoga is the reason of his teaching: he loves to share and transmit his knowledge as he wishes that anyone can experience the same that brought him to this path with such a strong determination and humbleness.
Prem Bahadur Shah
Prem was born in Lumbini in west Nepal. Before moving to India three years ago, he completed his studies in Art but he still enjoys painting, playing guitar and flute in his free time. Prem joined Upaya Yoga more than a year ago and since then he has been a precious addition to our team. His creativity and caring personality manifest every single day when is preparing pure and delicious yogic food for our students. He never stops smiling to anyone who crosses his way. However cooking is not the only passion that Prem is sharing with us and our guests.
Dr Nitin Patil
Dr Nitin Patil born in Kolhapur, interested in Ayurvedic herbal medicines since childhood is what brought him to study deeper in the philosophy of Ayurveda. He runs his Ayurvedic hospital in Kolhapur with specialized Keralian detox healing procedures. His interest in the anatomy of the human body got him interested to teach yoga students a deep understanding about yoga postures, alignments, deeper understanding about. His deep understanding knowledge and experience in Ayurveda make him the perfect member of the Upaya Team.
Neeraj Nautiyal
Swami Niranjan (Neeraj Nautiyal) was born in the Himalayas at the junction of the rivers Alaknanda and Mandakini in Rudrapryan. Since his childhood, Swami Niranjan has been living a yogi and a spiritual life under the guidance of many Himalayan masters. He traveled the Himalayas in silence visiting many auspicious sites of pilgrimage where he had an authentic experience of universal mother. His mission is to reveal the power of the Himalaya’s through devotion, yoga, and meditation. Neeraj believes this is the path to enjoy our inner adventures.

Rishikesh is a city in India’s northern state of Uttarakhand, in the Himalayan foothills beside the Ganges river. The river is considered holy and the city is renowned as a center for studying yoga and meditation. Temples and ashrams, centers for spiritual studies, line the eastern bank around Swarg Ashram, a traffic-free, alcohol-free, and vegetarian enclave upstream from Rishikesh town.

Rishikesh has spectacular views of jungle-clad hills and is also the confluence of river Ganges and Chandrabhaga. The glorious attraction of Rishikesh is none other than the great river Ganges herself, running rapidly throughout the city. In ancient times and still today, many yogis, rishis, sages, and sannyasis are attracted to Rishikesh to practice yoga in this peaceful location. Since then, Rishikesh has been known as the “Place of Sages”.

Rishikesh is a holy town with many ashrams and is now world famous as the yoga capital of the world and every year during the month of March hosts the one-week long International yoga festival. Rishikesh is considered to be sacred as it is believed that meditation at this place leads to an attainment of salvation. There are many temples, some ancient and some new along the river Ganges.

The riverside is dotted by the ashrams of Sadhus and sages. Rishikesh represents the site where Vishnu vanquished the demon Madhu. Apart from spirituality, Rishikesh is also a hub for adventure activities such as rafting, camping, trekking, and bungee jumping.

In the evening, the beautiful Ganges ceremony, Ganga Aarti, is organized at Parmarth Niketan and Triveni Ghat. The Brahmin Pundits, priests, performs Ganges Puja, a ritual worship, with Vedic hymns, accompanied by the sounds of hands clapping and drums. Hundreds of people come to witness this Pooja and offer leaf bowls filled with flowers and small oil lamps to the goddess.

The small sparkling lights of floating lamps and the auspicious atmosphere of the river Ganges creates a magnificent view and feeling that attracts many to join the prayer, even the visitors from outside India who cannot understand the Vedic songs. Rishikesh is a vegetarian city by law, as well as an alcohol-free city, and has also banned the use of plastics bags by shopkeepers and vendors.

The town of Rishikesh lies in the foothills of the Himalayas of the Garhwal region. It is the gateway to the upper Garhwal region and the starting point for the Char Dham pilgrimage, Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath, and Kedarnath, and an ideal destination not only for pilgrims but also for the people who are interested in adventure, meditation, yoga, and other aspects of Hinduism. Rishikesh is also a gateway to the World Heritage Site Valley of Flowers National Park, the eighth Wonder of the World and Char Dham Yatra.

Legend says that Raibhya Rishi who made intense Tapasya, austerity, here to please Lord Vishnu. Later, he stayed here and practiced yoga. Upaya Yoga Teacher Training provides three pure vegetarian meals in accordance with the yoga lifestyle. You will enjoy your breakfasts with porridge, muesli, brown bread, fruit salad, herbal tea, coffee, and milk. It may also be served a traditional Indian breakfast. For lunches, traditional Ayurvedic Indian Thali will be served including rice, chapati, vegetables, salad, beans, yogurt, and lentils. Dinners are the combination of healthy Ayurvedic Indian food, cooked vegetables, raw salad, lentils, and herbal tea.

Other items may be ordered separately from the menu. All the food served is strictly vegetarian with no exceptions. It is not offered any non-vegetarian food including eggs. All the food is well balanced and protein rich.

Driving directions from Delhi

It takes approximately 250 to 260 kilometers from Delhi via Meerut bypass, Muzaffar Nagar bypass, Roorkee, and Haridwar to Rishikesh.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Jolly Grant Airport (DED). Transfer from the airport is included. Upaya Yoga Teacher Training will pick you up from the airport.

Arrival by bus

Rishikesh is well connected by road to other Indian cities and you can take a government bus from New Delhi, Haridwar, and Dehradun. Rishikesh is 245 kilometers from New Delhi and the bus journey normally takes seven to eight hours. Haridwar to Rishikesh is a distance of just 30 kilometers and the bus journey is around 45 minutes. Dehradun is 50 kilometers with a bus journey of around 90 minutes.

Arrival by train

Rishikesh has railway connectivity with limited trains. Haridwar Railway station is very close, 35 kilometers away, so it is the best option to reach Rishikesh by train. Train number 12017 of Shatabdi Express, train number 12205 of A/C Special, and train number 14041 of Mussoorie Express are one of the best options to reach Haridwar from New Delhi. From Haridwar to Rishikesh, you can hire taxi or auto rickshaw.
