This 200-hour yoga teacher training program is certified by Yoga Alliance and designed to provide a strong foundation on Hatha yoga and Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga. Its goal is to help sincere yoga practitioners become teachers who practice safety and exude integrity, self-confidence, and joy. This certification is recognized worldwide, and in order for you to earn it, you will have to be assessed and evaluated throughout your entire stay with Turiya yoga.
The maximum participants in the group is 25.
Students can stay in the Palm Tree Ayurveda Resort where the course will be run or at the Relax Inn Guesthouse, which is right across from the resort.
The accommodation is comfortable, beautifully taken care of, and meets western standards. Turiya Yoga offers 12 cottage-huts for single occupancy or for couples and two cottage-huts for two guests sharing each. In the latter case, the bathroom is shared and the space has two levels connected by an inner ladder.
The term ‘cottage-hut’ is due to the fact that the structure goes beyond the concept of a simple beach hut. These buildings are made of wood, leaves, metal, and glass with a solid concrete base and tiled floor.
If you don’t fancy staying in cottage-huts, Turiya Yoga can offer a comfortable alternative in a traditional guesthouse building just opposite Turiya Yoga’s teaching space. The guesthouse can offer something to suit all tastes; a budget package and a deluxe alternative. The place is cozy, well-constructed, and offers a comfortable stay for all its guests. Turiya Yoga can offer four packages for standard rooms and five packages for deluxe rooms.
If you choose a guesthouse package, you are still welcome to enjoy any service from Palm Tree Ayurveda such as ayurvedic treatments, massages, laundry, etc. It will not take you more than three minutes to reach the yoga hall and any class from the guesthouse.
Wherever you come from, this unique 200-hour program and the time you spend with Turiya Yoga will move you deeply. Your daily routine will start early with a yoga practice - kriyas, asanas, pranayama, and meditation - surrounded by nature and silence. After quieting the body first, you can then quiet your minds.
After a delicious breakfast which enjoys all the gifts of tropical India, you’ll attend academic and technique classes. These are taught by professional and real yoga practitioners, that is to say, people who maintain their yoga practice both on and off their mat. At the end of the day, you finish with an asana, pranayama, and meditation practice.
In general, the practices adhere to Ashtanga Vinyasa (primary series), Ashtanga Vinyasa-based flowing styles, traditional Hatha yoga, and modern Hatha yoga (which uses props). Turiya Yoga finds their modern Hatha yoga classes help to balance the energy of these different dynamic styles while also focusing and deepening the students’ experience of the individual asanas.
Only a few asanas per class are worked on and they use a great variety of props for helping the student to spend more time in each posture in a comfortable way. These modern Hatha yoga sessions help students recover from all the learning and natural cleansing that takes place during an intensive course like this.
The students also cultivate a deeper experience of the categories of body postures and different alignments. The props used in these classes include ropes, belts, cushions, chairs, and so on.
You will come to know the yoga asanas or postures and also their health benefits. It is impossible to say that you will learn all the asanas since there can be hundreds or only 12 depending on the individual style of yoga practice. You will learn basic to intermediate postures and their applications. For your self-practice, if appropriate, you will also learn what some people refer to as advanced postures.
You will understand the fundamentals of therapeutic aspects of a yogic practice. You will learn about yoga philosophy and yoga in history. Some say of course that it takes a lifetime to really know it, but you’ll at least be able to learn the most important aspects. You will also be able to let go of some myths about these subjects by learning proper concepts and about the cultural background.
You will come to know the fundamentals of anatomy and physiology, including the various major body systems such as skeletal and muscular, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, nervous, and endocrine systems, as well as how each of them is affected by the practice. Studying the practical sides of yoga helps you to improve your own self-practice as well as your future classes since you’ll be familiar with the main health benefits and contraindications.
You will experience for yourself yogic cleansing techniques (kriyas). You will learn different techniques of breath-control and breathing (pranayama) as well as understand its health benefits and effects. You will also learn the fundamentals of a yogic life and yogic diet, being able to distinguish these from Ayurvedic, vegetarian, and vegan diets.
You will study different teaching techniques such as alignment, sequencing, and adjustments. You will be able to teach and assist in more than one class during the course besides watching the leading teachers. This ensures that you can truly grasp which tools a teacher carries with himself or herself in every yoga class. You will also come to know the ethics that are involved in being a yoga teacher as well as different ways to relate to your students.
You will also have the opportunity to apply for Turiya Yoga’s internships; either a month, three months, or a whole Goa season. You will have a great time experiencing teaching, assisting, and learning some aspects of running a studio. Last but not least, you’ll keep deepening your own practice. Yes, you always need to continue your own self-practice even when you are teaching.

The course mainly prepares you to teach Hatha yoga (beginners and intermediate) and Ashtanga Vinyasa (primary series). Turiya Yoga does, however, accommodate a variety of classes of Restorative Hatha yoga (with props) and Ashtanga Vinyasa flow-based sequences.
As all in life, schedules can also have some alteration. For example, you might need to have classes till lunch time on couple of Saturdays. It depends on each group.
Akash is Indo-German and was brought up in both countries. He trained to be a musician from seven years old to his late 20's in the ancient city of Varanasi in India. That was his first real step into the power of spirituality. He is a well-known musician specializing in Indian classical music who left it all to become a yoga teacher after yoga returned him to true joy. Akash had long battled with the competitive world of musicians and had grown progressively frustrated with how the community related to each other. Nowadays, he plays his music only for fun and as meditation.
Acharya Yogesh is an Indian teacher who studied Hatha yoga in the institute of Kaivalyadhama, jumping into the world of healing immediately afterward with different masters in India. He regularly teaches philosophy, yogic anatomy, traditional Hatha yoga, pranayama, meditation, and various cleansing processes (Kriyas) workshops in India and Europe. So far, he has taught on more than eighty yoga teacher training courses, so he can be considered one of the most authentic gems of India and Yoga. Yogesh is widely known for delivering inspiring classes and being a loving teacher.
Suzana grew up in Brazil being spiritually fed by a family that combined a great variety of practices which aid self-knowledge such as Christian Mysticism, Japanese Zen, Jungian psychology, and hypnotherapy. She needed only two yoga classes to realize that being truly happy is actually possible! From that moment, Suzana committed herself fully to this sacred practice. She took a year’s yoga teacher training course in Hatha yoga (Kaivalyadhama Associated Institute) to improve her own practice and to embrace yoga as a spiritual path and a life-changing experience.
Gems is, above all, passionate about the body: how one moves, why one moves the way they do, exploring what's possible within this incredible human vehicle everyone has been gifted for their journey on this earth. She is a contemporary hoop-dancer, an English teacher, and a passionate Ashtanga Vinyasa yogini. Gems has a deep and loving connection to India where she spent her last seven winters exploring her yoga practice with renowned Indian yogis and spreading her light as a teacher since the beginning of 2012.
Dr. S. D. Bhalekar
Dr. S. D. Bhalekar is an experienced Indian yoga teacher who holds a bachelor degree in ayurveda and medical surgery and a post graduate diploma in psychiatric counselling. He is a medical officer, working at the Gupta Yogic Hospital and Healthcare Center where patients are treated with yoga, Ayurveda and naturopathy. Healing is the reason why he became a doctor and a yoga teacher, but bliss is why he keeps practicing and sharing this sacred knowledge. Bhalekar is an experienced yet humble researcher and teacher for eight years inside and outside India.

This season, Turiya yoga is more than happy to offer a 200-hour yoga teacher training course at a beautiful Ayurvedic resort near one of South Goa’s most peaceful and unspoiled seaside locations, the relaxing Patnem Beach. This scenic Ayurvedic resort is nestled among coconut trees, and it is only a three-minute walk from the beach. This place is where you enjoy the calming sounds of the waves and feel the sea breeze as it dances through the palm trees.
The center offers healthy and delicious vegetarian yogic meals three times a day from Monday to Friday, as well as breakfast on Saturdays (after the morning class). Please note that Turiya Yoga accommodates special dietary requirements such as gluten-free foods, vegan dishes, allergies, and so on. Some members of their team also have special dietary requirements, so rest assured that Turiya Yoga are more than experienced in this matter.
Please be sure to inform Turiya Yoga about your dietary requirements when you apply for your course. Students are welcome to try out the different local restaurants and tourist activities in this wonderful part of Goa during weekends!
Please book your flights to arrive at Goa International Airport (GOI). Transfer from this airport is included. Turiya Yoga will pick you up at the airport. If two or three students arrive at the same time, the taxi will be shared. Any personal taxi expenses (apart from the one stated above) will be covered by the students themselves. Kindly note that, since it is a courtesy, Turiya Yoga will offer no refunds of taxi fees if you take other services or arrive on your own.
The nearest train station is Canacona Train Station. Transfer from this airport is included. Turiya Yoga will pick you up at the train station.
