Nestled in a lush oceanfront valley on Maui’s north shore, on a historic site that the ancient Hawaiians called Keali’i Nui (the highest royalty), the Spirit of Aloha Oceanfront Botanical Gardens emerged from a vision of its founder and managing director, Fredrick Honig.

The inspiration is to live in harmony with nature and to promote and facilitate well-being for the individual and for the ecology of the planet.

With essential respect for the native landscape, Fredrick has lovingly distilled the Aloha Spirit in creating the botanical gardens through the natural chemistry of health and harmony, and a heartfelt commitment to nature’s 12 universal core values, which are shared by all world religions.

Fredrick feels that these 12 core values, adopted by UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization), are most clearly expressed as the spirit of Aloha.

The gardens are dedicated to the understanding and integration of nature’s 12 core principles or values which are love, peace, respect, honesty, tolerance, humility, cooperation, happiness, responsibility, simplicity, freedom, and unity.

Certifications

Students who complete the training are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT®).

Program

The primary style of teaching you will learn together is Vinyasa flow, and by the end of the training, you will feel confident in teaching a basic class. The teacher will also encourage you to practice and teach the style(s) of yoga that most resonate with you. As such, this course is more of an exploration of yourself and yoga than it is a training in a specific style.

A lot of emphasis will be placed on following your heart and finding your own unique voice and way of expression, even if you choose not to teach yoga. The skills and lessons learned from this training will well-serve you the rest of your life. Truly Helpful also wants to emphasize that Truly Helpful do not promote any worldview or religious dogma, but rather bring forward different viewpoints so that you might "consider the possibilities." Truly Helpful views yoga not as a religion but as a tool that can actually help you to practice your own faith and live your life more fruitfully.
