The holiday includes two x 90-minute classes a day, accommodation, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, (except for a lunch and dinner where we go out and sample the local cuisine). Tranquil Times Holistic Retreats is specialized in tailoring programs to your individual requirements to give you the ultimate holistic experience. Classes are suitable for all ages and beginner and intermediate levels.
On your retreat, you will learn and practice various aspects of yoga - asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), deep relaxation, and meditation at your own pace and within your own range. Morning classes are slightly more dynamic in order to energize and revitalize, as well as to relax, while the late afternoon classes offer a variety of yoga styles each day.
The classes include sun salutations with variations depending on your level. Classes are small and informal so there will be plenty of time for individual attention and to concentrate on poses suitable for you and your body and those that you feel challenging and wish to work on.
Over the years, resident instructor Jo has practiced and studied various styles of Hatha yoga and has been influenced by the correct alignment that Iyengar yoga teaches, the breath synchronized flowing movements of Vinyasa with its sun salutation variations and Viniyoga with its individualistic approach and gentle flow.
Her main influences in recent years are Integral yoga which incorporates gentle hatha practice and focuses on the healing power of meditation and Sivananda. Jo has realised more than ever that her students need to slow down, so restorative and yin have become more important. Her classes have a lovely flowing sequence and incorporate aspects from many of the above styles of yoga, suitable for beginners and the more experienced.
Meditation expands awareness and develops calmness, serenity, and focus, ultimately leading to a deeper understanding of our inner nature. Meditation also has much to offer as a tool for enhancing concentration, willpower, and resistance to stress.
It allows us to ride the waves of life without being disturbed by them. The meditation techniques are taught systematically, and over the course of the week may cover body and breathe awareness, inner observation, and nada (sound). Healing chakra meditations are often included as are special confidence boosting and abundance meditations.
Jo's interest in yoga started as a teenager and throughout her busy career, she sought refuge and relaxation in it whenever possible. Moving to Bulgaria in 2006 gave Jo time to reflect on life and realize she wanted to develop further in this area. During this time, she has gained her Yoga Alliance certification, Yoga Teacher diploma, Reiki healing up to Reiki Master and teacher level, Sound Therapy and completed a course in Nutrition for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, from the University of California.

This treatment combines the benefits of a full body massage with the healing properties of essential oils. The oils or essences are derived from many different aromatic plants, including trees, herbs, flowers, and fruit. Many are known for their powerful anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties, as well as for their more subtle effects on the mind and emotions. The massage itself lasts about 50 minutes.
Indian head massage is based on the Ayurvedic system of healing which has been practiced in India for over a thousand years. The aim of Indian head massage is to release the stress that has accumulated in the tissues, muscles and joints of the head, face, neck and shoulders.
Indian head massage is especially good for relieving tension, stress, fatigue, insomnia, headaches, sinusitis, and migraine. Clients report that the experience is deeply calming and relaxing, leaving them feeling energized and revitalized and better able to concentrate.
The treatment helps increase joint mobility and flexibility in the neck and shoulders, improves blood circulation and lymphatic flow, frees knots of muscular tension, relaxes connective tissue, and aids in the elimination of accumulated toxins and waste products.
A one-hour treatment includes a consultation, treatment of upper back, shoulders, neck, upper arms, scalp and face.
Reflexology, otherwise known as zone therapy, uses trigger points on the body to stimulate the clients own healing mechanisms. The science of reflexology dates back to ancient times. Artifacts and paintings from China and Egypt indicate that reflex points on the feet were used to promote good health as far back as 4,000 B.C.
Modern day reflexology is based on the work published by the American physician Dr. William Fitzgerald in 1915. Dr. Fitzgerald demonstrated how pressure applied to one part of the body could anaesthetize another part. During the mid-1900s, Eunice Ingham (a physiotherapist) extended and developed Fitzgeralds work and created the reflex zone maps that are used today.
Generally, the trigger points on the feet are the most responsive, which is why most reflexology treatments concentrate on these, but pressure is also sometimes applied to points on the hands, arms or legs. The treatment lasts 45 minutes.
Reiki is our most popular therapy and can be chosen either standing alone or combined with the power of sound vibration from Tibetan bowls. Providing a holistic treatment to the mind, body and spirit, Reiki's natural healing energy works on every level, not just the physical, but emotional, psychological and spiritual and in doing so, promotes the body's regenerative self healing ability. Reiki goes to the deeper levels of your being, where many illnesses have their origins. It works wherever you need it most, releasing blocked energies, cleansing the body of toxins and working to create a state of harmony and balance. It reinforces your own ability to take responsibility for your life and helps to make the necessary changes in your attitude and lifestyle in order to promote a happier and healthy life. It is a very simple, non intrusive and extremely powerful process. A treatment session lasts approximately 50- 60 mins, the client usually lies down, fully clothed on a treatment couch, or can be seated on a chair. The practitioner gently places her/his hands in various positions over the body. Classical Swedish Massage is the “original” western style massage and is the foundation for other western massage techniques. One of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body, whereas Deep tissue massage targets the inner layers of your muscles, tendons, and fascia (dense connective tissue). The health benefits of regular full-body Swedish massage are plentiful. Benefits include increased circulation, lowered blood pressure, improved immune function and reversal of the effects of stress. Swedish style massage uses long strokes, kneading and friction with the primary purpose of increasing circulation and promoting relaxation. Pressure can be light to firm, but is not as detailed as Deep Tissue Massage. It’s important to remember, that deeper isn’t always better. Sometimes what the body needs is to simply relax and de-stress so it can heal itself. This massage lasts 1hr or can be extended to 90 minutes.
A 1 hour Deep Tissue Massage focuses on stretching fascia- a three-dimensional web of connective tissue that surrounds, supports and penetrates all of the muscles, bones, nerves and organs. Deep tissue massage works layer by layer through connective tissue and muscles down to the deepest accessible layers to change posture and create freedom of movement by releasing facial adhesions and chronic muscle contracture. Adhesions and scar tissue form in muscles because of injury, chronic poor posture, chronic or acute inflammation and repetitive motions. Deep Tissue Massage also has incredible health benefits. The release of habitually tight muscles relieves chronic pain and speeds the healing of injuries. Balanced posture improves organ function and athletic performance. Overall, it relieves the stress and energy drain of chronically tight muscles improving general health and well-being for long term wellness.
Hot stone massage therapy melts away tension, eases muscle stiffness and increases circulation and metabolism. Each hot stone massage therapy session promotes deeper muscle relaxation through the placement of smooth stones at key points on the body. The flat basalt stones are immersed in a special hot water heater. During a hot stone massage, the techniques of a regular massage are applied. Heat has been shown to ease and relieve muscle tension and pain. Other benefits include reducing stress and anxiety, promote sleep and some studies have shown it to relieve symptoms of cancer and autoimmune diseases and boost immunity A hot stone massage is best for clients with very tense muscles in need of extreme relaxation.
