This Zen yoga retreat is an opportunity to connect with others in a natural setting and explore one's intuitive side through art, discussion, journaling, and movement.
Tipi Village Retreat LLC is a haven away from the ordinary. Located in the Mohawk Valley near Eugene, Oregon, it is perfectly positioned for adventure. There are beautiful day trip destinations to the north, east, west, or south - may they be on two or four wheels.
With its secluded woodland setting, its unusual mix of dwellings (five tipis and the master bedroom suite), and its friendly hospitality, it provides an ideal setting for group retreats, family reunions, weddings or commitment ceremonies, celebrations of life, workshops, and other overnight events.
It is a great place for any adventurous traveler wanting a unique lodging experience. The tipis are furnished in a Zen style. They have beautiful stone floors with rugs, warm and comfy beds with down comforters, and wool blankets for the cool Oregon summer nights.
For a more traditional sleeping experience, there are cabins or rooms. All tipis and cabins have access to a centrally located bathhouse with two full bathrooms. The master bedroom suite and the studio have their own private bathrooms. There is also an additional bathroom available at the main house.
Time takes on a different meaning out there. You will feel yourself relax at a slower pace - into the here and now of birds singing and water flowing. If you sit still, you can observe the wild flock of quail, the occasional pheasant, or the wild turkeys and deer coming through on their daily routes.
In the spring, you will see elk bulls grazing at the edge of the forest, and in the fall, Oregon chinook salmon swimming upstream in the creek.
If you sit still, you will also experience nature’s silence and stillness. You will find an atmosphere of respect amongst those tall trees, as well as respect for the land, the keepers of the land, all living creatures, and for Mother Nature.
This is the first tipi that they put up in the woods, located in the center of the forest, and it was dedicated to Sitting Bull, chief of the Lakota. The floor of this tipi is made of Lakota limestone - and to complete your Lakota experience, you will sleep in a cozy, king-sized bed under a warm down comforter, covered with a buffalo hide.
It is a sweet location, near the edge of the forest. On one side, its neighbors are tall cedar trees, and on the other side, it offers a filtered view of an open field.
The interior of this tipi features a stone floor with wool rugs and a queen-sized bed - so comfortable that you might want to stay in bed and enjoy a morning of listening to the birds - or open the door and watch the deer, the wild turkeys, or the flock of quail wandering by.
The Sacagawea Tipi is one of the two forest tipis that the team added to their collection in the spring of 2009. There are now three forest tipis, all connected by trails and within sight of each other, but with plenty of private space in between.
Situated deep in the forest where the deer bed down for the night and yet within distant sight of the other forest tipis, you can make this tipi your home for a restful sanctuary. The forest offers a deep healing silence that you all need to retreat to in order to recover your senses from the noisy and rushed world in which you spend your daily life.
In this deep silence, you can hear your soul speak to you. The colors of the interior are kept warm and vibrant, and just like the other forest tipis, it has electricity - and the light at night turns the tipis into magic lanterns. A cozy down comforter provides a warm bed for all those cool summer nights.
This was the fourth forest tipi (now five with Crazy Horse), beautifully sheltered by a stand of tall cedar trees, and close enough to the creek to hear the comforting sound of the water. The light inside is dimmed and soothing.
This tipi also has a beautiful stone floor, covered with a wool rug for warmth and beauty. The bed is queen-size, and the comforter is covered with extra wool blankets to keep it cozy on Oregon's cool summer nights.
The master bedroom suite is located in the southeast corner of the house, closest to the creek. A patio door connects this centrally located room with the heart of the party by the fire circle. The flowing water will be the last sound that you hear before you gently drift away - and it might be the first sound that greets you in the morning, together with the morning sun and the birds.
The walls are kept in soothing greens, and the tallest wall shows the rich texture of American clay. The Tipi Village Retreat team loves rugs, and you will see a lovely display of rugs draped over the concrete wall that separates the bed from the closet. The bed is king-sized and very comfortable.
Every summer solstice, Janet guides a Zen yoga retreat to honor International Yoga Day, whose theme for 2025 is ‘Humanity.’ As a certified yoga instructor through Zenways, she is grateful to host an event at Tipi Village for the magical and restorative energy it bestows.
Janet's style of guiding people through movement therapy is fluid and inclusive, while allowing each individual's sui generis to flourish within the collective praxis. The use of art, poetry, and nature within this retreat will help thread the study of yoga in a myriad of ways. The exploration of calligraphy and watercolor will be the art practice, along with creating a nature art mandala.
When you begin by being in awe of who you are, the human body becomes a breathtaking temple, so let us all be a sample each moment through all movements.
