Enjoy one of seven gorgeous hardwood ecotourism minded Costa Rican bungalows that are set into the lush naturescape of Tierra de Suenos' property. Each ecotourist-minded bungalow has a different theme expressed in the hand carved wood, tile mosaics, painted murals, and artistic details. Enjoy hot showers and cool breezes from the overhead fan and large screened windows. %While staying in Tierra de Suenos, you can experience ecotourism by getting close to nature, sleeping to the sounds of the jungle, organic toiletries, linens, cleaning products, and relaxing in the hammock on your front porch. Observe heliconias, monkeys, sloths, hummingbirds, toucans, and much more. The casitas are adorned with orthopedic mattresses and cozy cotton towels. %The beds are equipped with canopy mosquito nets on to protect you from possible mosquitoes, but also adds to a rustic and romantic ecotourism experience for your stay in beautiful Costa Rica. Accommodations for the retreat include shared, double, or single occupancy with your own bed and a private bathroom for your casita.
This retreat is designed for people to come and totally relax, to learn and experience yoga with new teachers in a serene environment. Tierra de Suenos is an ecotourism paradise located in the beach community of Playa Chiquita, six kilometers south of Puerto Viejo, on the southern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. Playa Chiquita is an international neighborhood that celebrates ecotourism, nature, and diversity. Some of its neighbors include several delicious restaurants and bakeries, specialty grocers, markets in town, holistic centers, and a massage specialists onsite.
The retreat center is just a five-minute walk to one of the most beautiful beaches on the coast of Costa Rica. After walking down a nature trail across the road, you will find the unspoiled Playa Chiquita with reefs for snorkeling, palm tree covers for shady lounging and, depending on the time of year, either waves for surfing or the calmest waters for swimming.
Puerto Viejo is four to five hours from San Jose with many options for transportation including car rental, shuttles, bus options, and even flights from San Jose to the nearest city of Limon. If you are adventurous, Panama is only a short distance away and can easily be visited on a day trip.
The price of the retreat includes daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Tierra de Suenos is a facility offering fresh local foods and with many delicious vegetarian and raw food options. The meals include regular beverages like tea, coffee, water, and juices. Additional smoothies, snacks, specialty coffee, and tea are available outside of regularly scheduled meal times, additional fees do apply. Please make sure to let Tierra de Yoga know what your dietary preferences are and if you have any food allergies BEFORE you arrive.
Playa Chiquita, Costa Rica is the best of both worlds because it is so easy to be a part of the lively Puerto Viejo scene yet far enough away to enjoy a peaceful ecotourism sanctuary where often the only sounds you'll hear are those of the jungle. The area is home to an animal refuge which works to protect and rehabilitate injured or orphaned animals. This can be a great rainy day activity. The Jaguar Rescue Center takes in large jungle cats, monkeys, and also has a serpentarium where you learn about Costa Rica's snakes. Your visit can be combined with a visit to an indigenous chocolate production house where you'll see the process of making chocolate from plant all the way to tasty treat.
Pick up your wheels and cruise the coastal road that stretches all the way down to Manzanillo and up to Puerto Viejo. Check out the hidden beaches of Punta Uva or explore the local markets in Puerto Viejo, either way, bikes are the best way to get around.
In the true spirit of ecotourism, visit the Kekoldi Indigenous Reservation and experience the unique culture and tradition of Costa Rica's original inhabitants. The Bribri natives live on this reservation and welcome visitors to explore their lush environment and learn about their people.
Indulge deeper into ecotourism by getting out into the untouched nature this area has to offer by hiking through the rainforest or along the beaches of Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge or Cahuita National Park. Whether you want a relaxing cruise through the jungle or an adrenaline-filled ride on the rolling wave of Punta Uva, Tierra de Yoga can arrange your memorable trip right.
For the serious ecotourist, Tierra de Yoga will schedule your flight through the Caribbean rainforest with one of the best canopy tours in the area. The Caribbean canopy tour has 22 platforms with over two kilometers of cable distance for an incredible three-hour Costa Rican adventure. The trip includes round-trip transport, snacks, and a guided rain forest hike. This adventure boasts some of the most knowledgeable tour guides in the Puerto Viejo area.
Tierra de Yoga can arrange thrilling white-water rafting trips with the best river experts in the country. Ride the rapids on the Pacuare River (Class III-IV) or Reventazon River, Florida (Class II-III) or Pascua (Class IV-V) sections. The trip includes round-trip transport and an amazing lunch on the river.
Rent snorkel gear and explore the amazing coral reefs where you'll find angelfish, parrot fish, and over 500 other species in the crystal blue waters. For a closer look, dive down with experienced dive masters. Tierra de Yoga can arrange dive trips that include top of the line gear and offer open water courses for first-timers.
The Caribbean coast is home to the world-class wave fondly known as Salsa Brava. This wave can get up to three times overhead and is best from January to April. Other good breaks include Playa Negra, Beach Break at Playa Cocles, and depending on the day, a fun reef break across from the bungalows at Playa Chiquita. Rent boards or take surf lessons from experienced local surfers.
Tierra de Yoga offers a variety of additional services can be booked upon arrival. They have many fully certified practitioners and services available at an additional cost. If you would like to include some of these services in your stay, please advise and Tierra de Yoga will book it for you in advance.
Please book your flights to arrive at Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO). Transfer from and to this airport is available on request. Upon leaving Costa Rica, a tourist tax must be paid before passing customs. A rate of 28 USD can be paid directly at the airport at the time of arrival.
Playa Chiquita is approximately four and a half hours. If your flight arrives after 1:00 p.m. you are advised to stay overnight in San Jose and take the early morning shuttle. If you rent a car, please leave early as driving after 5:00 p.m. can be difficult with the early darkness and winding roads.
From Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO), the most cost efficient, commonly used option is MEPE, which is the national bus line that runs all over Costa Rica, carrying many travelers to Puerto Viejo hotels.
There are five direct buses from San Jose to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca from the Terminal Caribe at 6:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. The buses are fairly comfortable and cost a reasonable amount per person (10 to 15 USD). It is recommended, if possible, to purchase your bus tickets in advance as they sometimes sell out or are standing room only (seats are reserved at time of purchase).
If you want to come straight to the Caribbean from your flight, consider booking the airport pickup and bus ticket service which includes pre-purchased tickets for your desired bus departure and a taxi to meet you at the San Jose airport who will bring you to the Caribe bus station.
