Prerequisite

At least one year of regular practice is recommended but if you've never taught before, don't worry. This course is designed to be your first experience in becoming a yoga teacher. You will need dedication, motivation, and self-directed studentship of yoga and the path of teaching. It is also preferable that you be injury-free. A willingness to participate fully in group processes and the ability to give and receive feedback skillfully are also needed.

Accreditation and certification

The Yogarden Samui teacher training programs and teachers are internationally accredited, have exclusive recognition, and qualify for the 200-hour Yoga Alliance certification. Yoga Alliance is an international governing board for yoga teachers and training programs in the United States and globally.

Graduates of this program are automatically eligible to register as an RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) with Yoga Alliance. Becoming an RYT means having a higher profile and gaining international recognition as a yoga teacher, attributes that many hiring studios look for.

Upon successful completion, 100 percent attendance, and following the code of conduct, students will receive a certificate of completion from Tribe Academy for this teacher training program.

Attendance

Students undergoing this program must be fully committed and understand that 100 percent full-attendance is required. They must also be willing to forgo most other personal or professional commitments for the duration of the program - only with 100 percent attendance and completion of the course will students receive a certificate and no make-up work will be given. Should there be any problems with this, students must speak with the faculty prior to the course and only under very special circumstances will it be considered.

"Great place to practice yoga! It is a small cozy studio that allows you to either maintain your practice while on the island or if you are new to to yoga, they have classes for beginners as well. Make sure to carve out some time to enjoy one of their fabulous healthy juices or smoothies or salads after class. You won't find better healthy food at these prices anywhere in the island."

"My friend and I booked a 5 day yoga holiday package with the Yogarden during spring break including all yoga classes, two massages, food and accommodation. We had a wonderful time enjoying inspiring yoga classes with great teachers (we especially loved Kom and his very unique way of teaching!), very tasty and healthy food and the special atmosphere at the Yogarden with its super nice and welcoming staff. I would definitely recommend spending a holiday there and am very happy to have discovered this lovely place. I will definitely go there again!"

"Yogarden is a paradise only a few minutes away from the touristy Fisherman's village street - you can walk just 5 minutes and be there! The yoga teachers are excellent, the space if gorgeous, and then you can eat and drink the finest, healthiest juices, salads, and other good foods and desserts in a beautiful setting. You can also get a Thai massage from a gifted yoga instructor who also happens to be a Thai massage practitioner. I spent 4 weeks in a yoga teacher training course there in February/March 2016 - and had an amazing experience. I hope to go back and run a workshop there myself later this year!"

"I did a 200-hour yoga teacher training at Yogarden in February 2016. The training was one of the best things I've ever done. The vibe at Yogarden is amazing (I already knew that due to an earlier visit, but I was glad to notice that it was the same), the teacher was great and the food was fantastic. I think the whole group enjoyed every hour of the intense training. I would really recommend every one who loves yoga to visit Yogarden. There surely is something special with that place."

"I spent 4 weeks completing a TTC at Yogarden with Shiva Nand, Earth Yoga, in Feb/March. Yogarden is simply wonderful. Bonnie and her staff are amazing, attentive to details and creating a caring and blissful environment. The yoga sala allows you to practice in nature, taking in the lush green garden, birds singing etc. The food is amazing, fresh vegan and vegetarian options incl. healthy juices. They have amazing teachers, just love Karen and Nicky! A must visit when in Fishermans Village."

"Went here for a break from the business of Chaweng Beach. It was just what I needed. Lovely cute little place tucked away. I'm only sad I won't be able to come back for another class before heading home. I would definitely consider a yoga retreat here in the future if I come back to Koh Samui. The staff and owners were very friendly and welcoming. "

" Going through my pics I had to share my personal experience at Yogardens first Luxury Villa Retreat. From being picked up on the Sunday morning at our various landing points in Samui on the all 5 of us (including one couple) were transported to the breathtaking villa Kya up on the mountains of Bophut..all that came out of our mouths for the first few hours was wow, wow as we took in our breathtaking surroundings..the villa is like something that jumped off a page from Vogue Interiors, all sky blues and white with sweet staff to cater to our every whim. Then we settled in, had a delicious lunch, indulged in a spot of sunbathing by the pool and got to know each other. Jason Milne our teacher for the week was there to greet us on arrival, we had lunch, he showed us around, gave us our goodie packs and find out what had brought us there. It was a real mix of abilities, from the newcomer, the stressed workaholics, and the sometimes I do yoga person. We then had a beautiful sunset yoga class overlooking the ocean followed by an evening supper of delicious vegetarian food all prepared by the Yogarden cooks..I could feel my stress levels evaporate by the first day..then off to our luxury bedrooms where I slept soundly all night. And so the week went by, sunrise yoga/meditation sessions, followed by freshly made smoothies/green juices of our choice, yoga education sessions taught by Jason so well and organically we were so enraptured and engaged that they turned into very late Satsangs with nobody wanting to go to bed, then each day sealed off with a meditation session ,each one a different technique . We had soo much tasty veggie food prepared for us that it was rude not to eat it all,and all guilt free of course, a therapeutic massage every two days, guest teaching sessions by Rui and Bonnie both styles bringing a nice mix to the retreat. We practiced, relaxed, ate and ate, we laughed and cried..we learnt so much, letting go off our working lives with responsibilities for one week and concentrated on ourselves and nurturing our minds, bodies and souls.. And then it was Friday! We left our beautiful canctuary on the Friday afternoon finishing off with a pretty challenging class at the Yogarden in Bophut, then freshly made smoothies to send us on our way.I left Samui the next day a lot lighter, physically and emotionally and ready to face the World with new insights into my yoga practice and how to bring it into my daily Life and relationships and a group of new friends from all over the world..thank God for Facebook. My son thinks I came home so happy and healthy looking that I must do one of these retreats every year..and I had to agree!Thank you Yogarden. See you very soon."

" I participated in a Yogarden Luxury Yoga Retreat in October and it was an exceptional experience. Bonnie did a fantastic job planning the retreat, the villa was spectacular, and our every need was attended to.We stayed at Villa Kya perched high on a hill with spectacular views overlooking Mae Nam, Bophut and neighboring Koh Phanang. The Villa was a perfect combination of luxury and comfort with beautifully designed indoor and outdoor living spaces. We were served the most delicious gourmet vegetarian meals both poolside and on the moon deck. Between the staff at the Yogarden and Villa Kya, we were immersed in a week of yoga, healthy dining and pampering.I feel blessed to have had the opportunity meet and learn from Jason Milne with guest appearances from Rui and Bonnie. Jasons passion, knowledge, his personal experiences and his desire to share this knowledge with others make him easy to listen to and trust. Jason is a born teacher. He introduced me to a lot of new techniques and philosophies with an ability to demonstrate and simplify them without it being overwhelming. I understand much more about living a yogic lifestyle and have been able to take new practices and implement them into my everyday life. I enjoyed working with Jason so much that I am considering attending one of his 200 hour teacher training courses in the coming year.I would highly recommend a Yogarden Luxury retreat to anyone interested. It was so much better than I ever anticipated."

" I spent one week at The Yogarden for one of their vacation packages. It was the best yoga experience. Great classes and seasoned yoga teachers. Most of my classes where with Bonnie, the owner, and the consistency of being with one instructor was great because I felt like she really got to know me and helped me work through poses I had trouble with. The one-on-one attention was invaluable. The Yogarden is more than just a yoga studio, it became my home for the week. Set within in lush garden in a beautiful old Thai house, the place also has a cafe/restaurant and a great lounge area. I spent hours there in between my classes and enjoyed the fresh and healthy food and juices while reading or using their well functioning WiFi. I highly recommend The Yogarden, whether or not it's just for a class or two or for a full-on yoga vacation. If you go for a yoga vacation, the accommodation is not at the yoga studio itself but just a minute walk away by the beach and it is really great. Nice staff at the hotel and a beautiful room with sea view, the food is also really good there."

"Imagine a secret garden; tucked within is a beautiful 100 year old open Thai style building that plays host to your yoga practice every morning. Welcome to Yogarden---a truly magic yoga studio nestled in a quiet corner near Fisherman's village. The owner Bonnie has created a very special home for tourists, island locals and some of the best instructors to practice yoga and Pilates. Look for Anna Sugarman; she is an outstanding yoga teacher who helped me find my practice and deepen my moves. Don't forget to try their delicious food. Most everything on the menu is organic and vegetarian. The Raw Goodness Salad was my favorite. "

" I recently completed the 200 RYT Yoga Alliance Vinyasa Yoga Training by Anna Sugarman at Yogarden on 29 August 2015. It was the most awesome learning experience! The rustic surroundings blend with nature beautifully and combined with the best Yoga teachers you can ever hope to learn from. Bonnie Maclean who owns Yogarden, wonderfully manages the dreamy ambience of Yoga, healthy clean food, chilled out lounge which is a hop and skip from the beach. Anna Sugarman who led the RYT is the most inspiring, graceful, yet rocking Yoga Guru and is completely unlike the others. She will entrance you with her Vinyasas and awesome tunes which will leave a lasting impression. Yogarden is a must for any die-hard Yogi or weary tourist looking to just find their zen :) "

"I absolutely love the Yogarden, an amazing experience with fabulous yoga teachers, staff and Bonnie with her daughter. I spent two weeks topping up my personal yoga practice then embarked on a 200-hour yoga teacher training with Anna Sugarman at the Yogarden. A fabulous experience with teachings from Anna and Jason on philosophy, I couldn't recommend anywhere better than here. A must visit for any yogi traveler whether your a beginner or have many years experience, this is the place to be. "

"I am fairly new to yoga but pretty addicted already. I have visited Samui a few times and done a couple of yoga classes at bigger places than this one. I walked past a sign for this place and decided to go and absolutely loved the unpretentitious, simple set up of the shala. The cafe is so close to Bophut, but what I really loved were the classes, probably my favorite classes of all time."

"We specifically picked to stay in Bophut beach because of the Yogarden and we were so glad we did. We only had a few days so took three classes but each was wonderful. The teachers we had (Anna and Jason) each had their own style of taking classes and were incredibly supportive, friendly and encouraging. Bonnie was so welcoming and we were just sorry we couldn't stay longer but we'd love to return. Tucked away behind buildings it is though clearly signposted and the garden and cafe area are a beautiful and tranquil place to hang out before and after classes."

I completed Anna Sugarman's Yoga Teacher Training at Yogarden, which was such an amazing and memorable experience, as well as a Yin Teacher Training. Yogarden is a wonderful place to be. Good vibes, great teachers, and lovely healthy food combine with the warm and wonderful Bonnie to make Yogarden a happy garden sanctuary in the bustle of the Fisherman's Village."

  • Review by Rosanne Turner from Thailand

"A funky new yoga studio-cum-cafe has opened down a quiet back street of Ko Samuis cosmopolitan Fishermans Village. The village is known for its east-meets-the-Med appeal, where trendy coffee shops bump shoulders with upmarket boutiques, and bars and restaurants trade from old Chinese shop houses. The effect is eclectic and charming, making a perfect location for the equally quirky Yogarden.Yogarden is set in a traditional old Thai house, with the studio being a bright open-air structure cooled by fans and surrounded by the landscaped garden, colourful with orchids. Currently, classes are held at 9:00 and at 18:00 Monday through Friday, as well as Saturday mornings. A kids room with a babysitter is available for yoga mums with young children; this service needs to be booked in advance.Yogarden is not a do your yoga and leave kind of place; rather, the idea is to linger in the cafe or garden over a healthy snack and mingle with like-minded people. Healthy goodies are also for sale, and the menu comprises daily specials by co-owner and vegan chef, Ian. In keeping with this social aspect, Yogarden hosts frequent gatherings such as film nights and music sessions. Workshops such as Reiki training are offered. Check their website to see whats on during your visit to Ko Samui. The old wooden house has been beautifully restored, and colourful tables, artwork, beanbags and cushions have been added to lift what would otherwise have been a dark interior. Various disciplines of yoga are offered, as well as special classes for kids. Rates are competitive, at 800 baht per week, with the price dropping considerably for longer memberships. Daily rates are also available, with new members given a special of 200 baht for unlimited access for the first week.As the studio is only a few hundred metres walk to several excellent accommodation options in Fishermans Village, chef Ians wife Bonnie has put together yoga holiday packages, from budget through to upmarket, including a private villa option. These holidays can be customised to include detox plans and various treatments by therapists. For anyone wanting a little personality out of their yoga studio, and a quiet place to relax away from the crowds, new kid on the block, Yogarden meets the mark. "
