The accommodation options are on private room and double room basis. The beach-front accommodations will be at the eXtreme Hotel. The hotel is one of the leading ecologically sustainable small hotels in the Caribbean. eXtreme is more than just an adventure sports and fitness hotel, it is a place where the values of sustainable and ecological tourism are forefront, the community is thriving, and the keywords are evolution and fun.

The eXtreme Hotel is the perfect place to meet amazing people and have an incredible holiday in tropical paradise.

Perched on the second floor overlooking the ocean is the magnificent and tranquil The Yoga Loft. Services and amenities include various classes, yoga mats, yoga blocks, and other useful equipment. It’s a quiet and peaceful place with a beautiful canna roof where you can find your inner chi.

It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or a seasoned yogi, the friendly and helpful instructors will give you a yoga workout that is both fun, enjoyable, and relaxing, with the gentle lapping waves in the background. Combine a yoga class with a cross fit class, personal training session, kite boarding session, or surfing and you’ll have a well-rounded day followed by a deep sleep.

The retreat will be held in Cabarete, Dominican Republic. Cabarete is best known as one of the world’s meccas for kite boarding. The sport is popular due to the consistent winds nearly year round, so it is one of the best places to learn, practice, and perfect the sport. Cabarete however, has so much to offer beyond kiting.

It also is a fantastic surf location for both beginners and advanced surfers with waves reaching double overhead in the fall when the wind dies down. Most of the breaks are coral based, making the perfect formation when the conditions are right. Cabarete also has horseback riding, beautiful lagoons for paddle boarding, and waterfalls to be explored.

Due to the active, modern community who frequents Cabarete, the town is full of healthy eating options, ecological businesses, and sustainable tourism. Cabarete is home to a lively international community that supports local development through private business operations and non-government organizations.

The center of Cabarete is full of international restaurants, bars, live music venues, and much more. The Yoga Loft believes in living a balanced life, so for those who enjoy the nightlife as well as the day, you would not be short of options.

Arrival by airplane

Transfer from and to the airport is available upon request. The Yoga Loft has four airports that you could fly into. Each one has its own pluses and minuses, so they like to leave guests to decide what works best to balance their budget and travel style.

Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP) is about 30 minutes away, and a 35 USD taxi ride (taxi seats four). It is a local airport but it is as close as you could possibly get to eXtreme Hotel, so if you want to fly into here you’ll have to book your international flight into Santo Dominigo or Punta Cana and get a small connecting plane to Puerto Plata.

Cibao International Airport (STI) is one and a half hours away, and about 100 USD by taxi. It is an international airport, however flights are frequently more expensive into Santiago than into Santo Domingo or Punta Cana.

Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) is four hours away, and is about a 200 USD taxi from eXtreme. There are a lot of international flights to Santo Domingo, and coming from Santo Domingo you also have the option of taking the local bus (about 20 USD) instead of a taxi. This is a good option for budget travelers.

Punta Cana International Airport is seven hours away and is a 400 USD taxi ride. The downside of Punta Cana is both the distance and the expense, but the upside is that it is one of the nicest airports in the Caribbean due to the large number of private flights that arrive there, so if you are nervous about flying, Punta Cana might be a good option for you. Also Punta Cana is a resort city, so there are frequently flight deals to there that might offset the taxi ride if you’re sharing the fare.

Group size

Maximum 15 persons.

Seasonal information

The weather in the Dominican Republic is sunny and warm year round. Since Cabarete has almost constant winds, there is almost always a lovely cooling breeze. In the summer months (June to August) it can get quite hot in the middle of the day, reaching upwards of 38 degrees Celsius or about 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

During the winter months, the temperature can be a quite lovely 24 to 26 degrees, or about 75 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The Yoga Loft recommends good sun protection though, as you’re quite close to the equator and especially those who aren’t used to the sun can burn quite easily!

Mobile / communication information

If you like having 3G while you’re out and about, you can pick up a cheap sim card from Claro or Orange in town. Both have inexpensive prepaid options and solid coverage.

Electricity information

The town of Cabarete does have periodical power outages - it’s one of the lovely things about living on an island. As a solar powered hotel, The Yoga Loft is usually back online much faster, however they ask that you bear with them when some of these island things happen. As the Dominicans say, todo se resuelve, or, everything always works itself out!

Medical information

Due to the large ex-pat population, The Yoga Loft has access to high quality medical care in Cabarete. ServiMed is the local medical service center in the center of Cabarete, which is open 24 hours a day and is very good in emergency situations. They also have a local laboratory, which will run most tests for about 10 USD.

If you need to visit a doctor for any reason, there is a very good medical center in Sosoua (the next town over), with both European and American doctors, as well as a well-equipped private hospital in Puerto Plata, which also has qualified European and American staff.

What to bring

The Yoga Loft recommends packing mostly light and summery clothing. Shorts, lots of bathing suits, light color tops, and relaxed dresses. Hats are great for sun protection, and if you’re planning on kite boarding, bring a strap for your sunglasses and a rashguard to protect you from the midday sun. The vibe in town is pretty laid back, so there's not much sense in bringing fancy clothing or heels.

Light makeup or no makeup is best with the heat, and don’t forget to pack lots of SPF and mosquito repellent. Caberete has lots of shops with fun clothes and pharmacies that stock most of what you’d get in the United States, so if you forget anything you’ll most likely be fine buying it here. Most guests find they pack way more than they end up using, so do your best to pack light and save on luggage space for souvenir shopping!

Extension options

If you would like to extend your stay on either side, please let The Yoga Loft know upon booking.

Local expenses / money information

In the Dominican, both pesos and US dollars are accepted, however you’ll get slightly better rates using pesos. There are several money exchange places that will accept most major currencies. When you exchange money, you’ll need to bring your passport with you.

During this retreat, you will enjoy a tour of the organic farm with river tubing together with a farm fresh meal.

  • Marisa Megan

Marisa has studied yoga for more than 10 years, including lineages such as Ashtanga, Iyengar, Para, Tantra, Dharma, and many others. The exposure to so many types of yoga has helped her form a unique teaching style, which focuses on strength, alignment, and breath, but most importantly about finding the path of ease and doing what is right for your body.

  • Airport transfers
  • Massages or treatments
  • Nutritional counseling, specialized meal plan, and supplement regime
  • One-on-one training or yoga classes

The nutrition program is pretty special, as the beachfront restaurant is supplied by eXtreme Hotel's very own organic farm (in which you will take a tour). This means that you'll always have the highest quality and freshest ingredients on hand, so you’re always getting nutrient dense meals to maximize your energy, and thus your happiness.

Please let The Yoga Loft know if you have any dietary restrictions. They can cater to vegetarians and those on gluten and lactose restricted diets, however they unfortunately don’t have the ability to cater to vegans or raw foodies at this time.

The following meals are included:

  • Breakfast
  • Dinner

The following dietary requirements are served and/or catered for:

  • Organic
  • Whole food
  • Other dietary requirements on request
(If you have special dietary requirements its a good idea to communicate it to the organiser when making a reservation)

Relax and enjoy a professional massage from the hotel's masseuse, Magdalena. She offers Thai, Swiss, and deep tissue massage. She uses the massage room next to the yoga loft to help heal your body from the aches and pains. Multiple types of massages available.

Depending on your preference, you could be kiting, surfing, learning the trapeze, or taking additional fitness classes. The Yoga Loft also offers one-off activities such as visiting the 27 waterfalls, white water rafting, horseback riding, stand-up paddle tours, massages, and more, all of which you can schedule upon arrival.

With El Choco national park in the backyard, there are numerous options. Take in the ocean and jungle scenery, and get away from the bustle of Cabarete. The hotel is only minutes away from incredible Caribbean vistas and lush tropical rain forest.

Horseback riding

Whether you're an expert horseback rider or an amateur, you will find plenty of equestrian ranches nearby that offer both beach rides and lush mountain expeditions. See the lush and beautiful Cabarete from a new perspective!

Mountain biking

World class mountain biking tours are offered by an internationally renowned local firm, leading scenic daily excursions that range from beginner trails to challenging, advanced level rides through the bush.

Scuba diving

Only 15 minutes from Cabarete in Sosua there are clear turquoise waters perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving. You can go on your own, hire a guide, or even sign up for a certification course.

Waterfall tours

Another amazing day trip. The waterfalls are about an hour and a half drive away from the hotel, where you hike up and jump down 27 waterfalls with gorgeous grottoes.

White water rafting

The highest mountains of the Caribbean are only a four hour drive away. With an early start, you can be heading down class three to six rapids that will have you thinking you’re in Central America.

Cabarete is ranked as one of the top ten windsurfing locations in the world. Cabarete is where it’s at for this exciting sport. Windsurfing is what put Cabarete on the sporting map in the late 80's.

Zip lining

An hour outside of Cabarete on the mountain road to Santiago lies zip lining at its best. You’ll be suspended 100 meters in the air while you zip through the jungle canopy on this fun day trip.

"I traveled to Cabarete and participated in various gym classes at the Extreme Hotel Gym. Want to highlight one of the classes cross fit classes with trainer Jeremy. His session was awesome and Jeremy is one heck of a trainer. Would highly recommend to anyone interested in fitness."

"I really enjoy the beach/easy-going vibe of this gym, the people working there are really helpful, and its perfectly located; close to Encuentro the surf spot and Kitebeach the kite spot. This really makes it easy to get a fast workout in after a good surf or kite session. The gym members are a perfect mix of locals and tourists blending together, but its never too crowded. The yoga loft, beach bar, and pool really complement the gym perfectly."

"I visited Cabarete, DR recently and found the coolest gym ever! Rogue fitness is the gym you have been dreaming of. They have tons of equiptment like TRX, Bounce weights, Racks, Dumb bells and it all comes together with the trainers. Zach gives off the best vibes and is over flowing with knowledge from crossfit to extreme yoga. If your looking for a get-a-way that will challenge you and relax you at the same time, this is the place!!"

"Awesome gym with super friendly staff! Their classes are hard yet super fun with really knowledgeable instructors that will help you with whatever you need. Zach and Jeremy know what they are doing! A good bonus is that you get cooled down by the ocean breeze as you are working out! My favorite gym in the world!!"

"What more can one ask for? OK good Karma and you will get it when you visit. I came for the Kite surfing, which is excellent, swam every morning, did yoga, visited the farm, ate at the restaurant, supported the artists, walked the beach, and met the most conscious people at the extreme hotel."

"Molly is an amazing yoga teacher. She is very hands on and will correct your form or encourage you further into a pose. In just my few practices with her while on vacation, she helped me discover my length and put me in my first headstand. Thanks!"

"My daily routine for 1 month at Extreme Hotel: Wake up. Look out the window to check the wind. It's only 9am and the flags are already moving, sweet. Wander 50 steps over to the yoga studio overlooking the ocean. Stretch and breath. Mind is clear and soul is at ease. Wander 10 steps to eat some yummy breakfast. Chat with friends. Walk 5 steps. Pump up a kite and enjoy a few hours of beautiful kite surfing. Land the kite. Eat yummy lunch. Chat with friends. Launch the kite. Try new kite skills. Watch the sunset while skimming across the ocean. Land the kite. Enjoy sunset beers with friends. Discuss evening plans. Meetup and take a motorcycle to dinner at 1 of the many delicious spots around town. Drink and dance the night away. Repeat. I will be back."

"A unique and quality property in a wonderful North Coast Town. The rooms are very basic yet clean and more than adequate, with ceiling fans, and a nice balcony. There are so many activities to chose from, all on-site and high quality, trapeze, pool, yoga studio and fitness area, all before the amazing beach action, kite surfing of the highest quality, superb teachers, and professionals to watch and emulate. Whatever your desire, the activities will live up to your standards. The restaurant has been undergoing renovation and improvements and is wonderful, I only wish it was open longer, closes at 4 p.m., perhaps later in the year. Overall a great value in a superb location on the wonderful North Coast."

"I stayed with a friend of mine at the Extreme hotel over Memorial Day weekend. I was focused on just regular surfing; she was focused on surfing and kite surfing. The place is a sort of compound of different sports, including a cross fit gym, kite surfing, trapeze, yoga studio, and farm. The price was extremely reasonable, the service was efficient and friendly, the rooms were clean and comfortable enough, and the people were fun and social. It's a very supportive environment for someone looking for an active vacation, and I look forward to visiting again next year!"

"As an aspiring flying trapeze artist, I was looking for a getaway that didn't interrupt my training. Extreme Hotel turned out to be the perfect balance. With a flying trapeze rig (and awesome staff), aerial apparatus of all kinds, a top notch crossfit gym, a yoga studio overlooking the beach, and all of the downtime one could desire, this hotel met every expectation and, quite possibly, ruined future hotels in my mind! This hotel is not for someone who considers a hotel without room service as camping. The hotel itself is very spartan in a very good way. There is a fridge and water cooler in each room, a decent sized bathroom, shower, and closet, and not much else. In my humble opinion, this is perfect. It encouraged us to sleep in our room and not much else (although they did have wifi, which allowed us to keep our friends jealous with constant facebook photos). We spent the rest of our time exploring the amazing beaches, eating at the hotel restaurant, and basking in the amazing weather by the pool, when we weren't training, of course! We spent 11 days at Extreme Hotel, and would gladly stay and / or go back for more."
