Course structure
The basics of yoga breath
A yogic breath is the most fundamental part of your yoga practice. When you practice yoga with proper breathing, you will correlate breath with movement; and thus yoga becomes like a dance. In this course, you will learn the following breathing techniques:
- Breath of fire - an ancient breathing technique to increase metabolism and relax the nervous system
- Alternate nostril breathing - Another ancient technique used by many yogis to get instant relaxation and stress relief
- Deep yogic breathing - This technique is compared to how babies breathe, deep core breath
- Ujjai breath - An ancient breathing technique used for the transformation of the mind, body, and soul
Fundamentals of Hatha and Vinyasa
With countless yoga styles available, this course aims to teach you a practice that you can confidently pursue at home. Each day, the course begins with a breathing technique to ignite your movement and posture practice. You will explore different styles of Surya Namaskars (sun salutations) and engage in varied sequences daily.
Hatha yoga: Widely considered the first quantified style of yoga. In the West, Hatha yoga often refers to static postures held for extended periods. On the other hand, Vinyasa Flow yoga typically emphasizes movement. In this unique course, you'll have the extraordinary opportunity to learn Vinyasa yoga from world-class teachers. The Yoga Cave Initiative will guide you in seamlessly threading different postures together, creating a fluid and dynamic practice.
Alignment vs. Movement
As self-practice is encouraged in this course, teachers will emphasize aligning each posture before transitioning between them. Fundamental alignment techniques for each posture will be taught, facilitating a deeper practice. Once you've grasped these alignment foundations, the course will progress into Vinyasa, the art of movement. This traditional practice will teach you how to gracefully flow from one posture to another. Common sequencing techniques will inspire you, bringing authenticity and grace to your yoga practice. Embark on this transformative journey and enhance your understanding and practice of Hatha yoga.
