It is divided into three separate units and one of these, the Athens district, is located in the Hocking Hills Territory. The Wayne National Forest provides designated trails specifically for all-terrain vehicles (ATV’s), horses and mountain bikes.

Trails are open from April 16 through December 14. It can be accessed by four trail heads. In order to ride, you must purchase a trail permit. The inn suggests attaining those at Wayne National Forest headquarters on state route 33 in Nelsonville or the Baymont Inn & Suites in Logan, Ohio.

Bird watching

Bird watching and feeding are the number one fastest growing outdoor recreational activities in the world for all ages. The Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls is one of the best places to bird-watch in the Hocking Hills. The 75 acres of woods and fields are a natural habitat for many different species of birds. Enjoy watching them from your cottage or cabin, while dining on the patio or along the path to the spa.

Not only is the Inn’s wooded property great for bird watching, but within a short distance there are other great birding habitats in the Hocking Hills. Try the nature preserves like Conkle’s Hollow, the metro parks like Clear Creek and natural forests like Wayne National Forest. Birding can be done while canoeing, horseback riding, and even zip lining.

Guest birders have started a list of birds seen in the habitat. While every season brings birds, different ones can be seen and heard at different times of the year. Winter and spring are two great times to discover birds as they are easier to spot in the trees and brush. The Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls hopes when you visit and discover a species not on our list, you will add to it.

Canoeing

Couples and families love to explore the Hocking River in Logan, Ohio with a leisurely trip down the river. Choose from a canoe, kayak, raft, or tube. Trips are available from two hours to two days, even moonlight trips following one of Chef Doug’s delectable dinners. Follow the scenic Hocking River. There are several islands and sandbars that are great stopping points to eat one of our brown bag lunches. Don’t miss pulling your canoe over and taking the short walk to Natural Rockbridge.

Cycling

Tour the Hocking Hills cycling routes, offering about four miles of mountain bike trails. A two mile medium loop and two mile hard loop.

Geocaching

Fast becoming a favorite family activity is Geocaching in Ohio, This worldwide GPS phenomenon is right at home in the Hocking Hills with all the cracks and gorges and miles of hiking trails.

Have fun hiking and climbing

The Hocking Hills State Park Trails are open year-round from dawn to dusk. Each trail is different and has its own personality every season. There are rugged trails for the active seasoned hiker to paved, easily accessible, short trails. Benches run along some of the trails so you can sit down and enjoy the wildlife. While most hikes are self-guided, the Hocking Hills State Parks has scheduled hikes throughout the year.

Starting in January, the Old Man’s Cave Winter Hike is six miles of rugged hiking from Old Man’s Cave to Cedar Falls to Ash Cave. Witness the blanketing snow and fabulous frozen waterfalls along the way. In the spring, Hocking Hills State Park offers the wildflower and waterfall hike. Observe hard to find species of wildflowers throughout the Ash Cave area. The Ash Cave waterfalls are breathtaking and since there is nothing behind the falls, adventurous hikers may go around the waterfall on all sides.

Horseback riding

Hocking Hills State Forest provides horseback riding trails intermingling with both hiking trails and hunting areas. There are nearly 40 miles of bridle trails available at the forest. The horse camp has nearly 23 sites available on a first come first served basis. Drinking water is not always available; riders should bring additional water. Horses may be ridden only along forest roads or designated bridle trails.

Hunting and fishing

Hocking County rates at the top in any discussion of Ohio deer hunting statistics. With over 9,200 acres of public land available to hunters, Hocking Forest has produced more than its share of venison down through the years. Near Laurelville, Hocking Forest is managed by the state under a multiple-use concept, with special emphasis on maintaining forest cover. This approach has helped create excellent deer habitat, and the whitetail population is thriving.

Three designated nature preserves are also in Hocking Forest. Conkles Hollow, Sheick Hollow and Little Rocky Hollow are off limits to hunting. The boundaries of these areas are marked with white and/or red paint spots. In Hocking Hills, fishing areas like Rose Lake, Clear Creek, and Lake Logan are the most well-loved by many fishing enthusiasts.

Participate in events and festivals

The Hocking Hills of Ohio abounds with monthly events and festivals. Festivals, art shows, music fairs, and events for the entire family.

Swimming

Some Inn guests like to go for a quick swim after a day of adventure. The inn has two options to suggest.

  • Old Man’s Cave State Park. This is the closest and is best if you prefer a swimming pool. It is located outside the dining lodge and is open 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day. There is a small daily fee for use.
  • Lake Hope Forest Park. It’s about ½ hour drive from the Inn, but, make a day of it as there is lots to do. Hiking, biking, fishing, boating, and finish off with swimming. They have 600 feet of beach along with a concession stand. Or, take one of the inn's delicious brown bag lunches with you.

Zip line

The newest and most exciting outdoor adventure attraction in Ohio is the Hocking Hills Canopy Tours. This three-hour fun-filled adventure offers guests of all ages the opportunity to zip through the treetops on a network of cables and walk skybridges suspended high above the forest floor.

Spa treatments are available at the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls, where you will have priority booking. Here are the treatments you can book for an additional price:

AromaTouch

The AromaTouch technique gives you a unique experience with essential oils and helps you maintain overall wellness.

Couple's massage

Enjoy a relaxation massage simultaneously next to your partner surrounded by whispering pine trees and nature. This is the spa's most popular treatment.

Craniosacral therapy

Using about five grams of pressure (the weight of a nickel), movements of the bones of the head and spine are monitored for symmetry and amplitude. Gentle holding, rocking, traction and gliding movements ensure that the bones surrounding the central nervous system are moving and not stuck.

The improved circulation of cerebrospinal fluid inside the bones which cushion the brain and spine helps to nourish, cleanses, and relax the nerves. The procedure is very subtle and may serve as an introduction to the meditative state.

Cupping massage

A partial vacuum is created in special cups that are placed on the skin. The suction and negative pressure draw up the skin to: drain excess fluids, loosen adhesions and connective tissue, increase blood flow, and stimulate the peripheral nervous system. As the cups are moved up and down the back, the experience is similar to a deep massage. Cupping therapy allows fresh nutrients to get into deep tissue. It also helps the body release toxins and activates the lymphatic system to promote healing.

Energy techniques

EFT is based on a new discovery that has provided thousands with relief from pain, diseases and emotional issues. Simply stated, it is an emotional version of acupuncture except needles aren’t necessary. Instead, you stimulate well established energy meridian points on your body by tapping on them with your fingertips. The process is easy to memorize and is portable so you can do it anywhere.

Based on impressive new discoveries regarding the body’s subtle energies, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) has proven successful in thousands of clinical cases. It applies to just about every emotional, health and performance issue you can name and it often works where nothing else will.

Hand or foot / massage duet

This treatment combines a 25 minute relaxation massage with a 25 minute hand or foot treatment for 50 minutes that will soothe your tired muscles and relax your mind.

Hot stone massage
