Program

3 weeks certificated residential course

SYM is a fully accredited member school with Yoga Alliance International, The International Association of Yoga Therapists and The International Yoga Federation.

This is a three-week intensive residential program of 150 hours of tuition and supervised practice. Set in a beautiful location, the course provides a safe environment for this full immersion into yoga and Shiatsu, practice and healing.

Both yoga and Shiatsu are profoundly transforming healing modalities that share physical, energetic, and psycho-spiritual dimensions to healing. On a simple level, both of these healing arts seem to be working mostly on a purely physical level. However, through practice, the energetic, emotional, and higher dimensions of the oriental meridian and chakra system can be tuned into and a deeper, truly holistic approach to self-development and healing can be explored.

The shiatsu practitioner course is based on the European Shiatsu Federation, ESF, core curriculum and includes all aspects of Zen Shiatsu, TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), anatomy, physiology, and pathology. Students can continue their training with the school, or do this as a one-off.

This fully integrated first year course teaches all basic Shiatsu techniques in prone, supine, and lateral positions, as well as a comprehensive introduction to the Chinese meridian system, all major acupoints, the basic notions of TCM, and the chakras.

The morning yoga class will teach all fundamental asanas (yoga postures), which are profoundly therapeutic, as well as various meditation and breath-work techniques. These classes are suitable for those just starting their yoga journey looking to deepen their practice and more advanced practitioners.

Both the yoga and Shiatsu modules are taught by professional staff, led by Gerry Rixen, the founder and director of SYM-Ltd.

Frequently asked questions

What style of yoga does SYM teach?

SYM teaches Hatha yoga broadly based on the Sivananda and Iyengar yoga methods. Sym teaches an energetic approach to yoga, really feeling the postures and tapping into their unique healing potentials.

Sym practices flow, but more emphasis is placed on steadiness in the posture with the correct alignment of physical and energetic bodies and mindset within poses. This requires them to be slower in their practice, to truly feel and understand the tremendous therapeutic effects of the asana.
