You will be staying at Bodhi Khaya Retreat Centre, a peaceful haven, nestled into 217-hectares of indigenous fynbos and milkwood forest. The center offers breathtaking views, six hiking trails, swimming dams blooming with lilies, and a labyrinth to walk in. The landscapes of Bodhi Khaya feel both wild and protected, making it a powerful place in which to connect with nature.

Accommodation ranges from two private self-catering cottages to comfortable rooms on the courtyard with ensuite facilities to beautifully appointed rooms in the original farmhouse, dating from 1791. Also available are the simple, serene rooms in the Cloister, with shared ablution facilities. Rooms will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

The farmhouse

The farmhouse is a beautifully restored home dating back to the 1820s. The Cape Dutch style architecture with low ceilings and cozy fireplaces will transport you back to a time when people sat down together for meals and gathered around the fireplace to share their stories at night.

It houses the Aloe dorm and Daisy dorm, which are five-bed and three-bed rooms respectively, and are ideal for friends who want to catch up. The Aloe dorm has its own fireplace, en-suite bathroom with two showers and a separate entrance leading to the lush garden. Daisy dorm has a bathroom across the passage.

Disa is a twin room with fireplace. Once the farmhouse kitchen, the room has been perfectly renovated to create a peaceful space while still retaining the original room’s features. Pincushion is a deluxe room with a queen size bed and en-suite shower and is ideal for couples.

The cloister

Located around a central courtyard, the cloister houses 14 beautiful single rooms. The first six rooms, in the front section share two showers and two toilets. Each room contains a bed, small cupboard space to hang clothes, and a side table. These rooms lead into an open plan living space that looks out across the gardens and labyrinth. The other eight rooms are situated at the back and each has a bed, side table, cupboard, and a basin. These rooms have three shared showers and toilets.

The courtyard

The courtyard rooms are new and modern and are conveniently situated close to both the meditation hall and the main dining room. Each room is a twin, with an en-suite bathroom. The rooms have been named after the beautiful flowers growing in the garden.

Also on the courtyard, is the garden room, a luxurious double room, with a king-size bed, a Victorian bath, and an open plan bathroom. This beautifully restored building used to be the old dairy and has high ceilings with rustic wooden rafters and a working fireplace.

The Whole Truth Retreat juice cleanse program is a valuable support for the other processes offered on this retreat, and for your general health and well-being. The benefits include:

Rests the digestive system

Juice is easily digested and assimilated. When less energy is devoted to digestion it is made available for healing and renewal.

Repairs the gut

Toxin-free, nutrient-dense food helps to repair the gut, balance intestinal microflora, and restore full function.

Supports the liver

Provides a break from rich foods and alcohol and the chemical and environmental pollution that overloads the liver.

Freedom from addictive and emotional eating

A supportive environment in which to release old patterns around eating, and form new, healthy habits.

Eliminates harmful foods and allergens

Gluten, preservatives, food additives, and even certain fruits or vegetables may cause unpleasant reactions in your body, but often the cause goes undetected. Simple, clean food for an extended period and the awareness developed, will give your body a chance to reset, so that when harmful foods come into the body they can be recognized and eliminated.

Intensive nourishment

Raw food and juice retain vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and enzymes that are often compromised by cooking or processing. Everything that you ingest during this week will be of the highest nutritional value.

Natural weight maintenance

Weight loss is a natural outcome of a juice cleanse. During the course of the retreat, you will learn to introduce healthy practices into your lifestyle to support sustainable weight loss, if required, and maintain a balanced body mass.

Increased energy

Though your energy levels may dip in the first few days easy assimilation and the flood of nutrients and life force to your cells unlocks energy, giving your body a sustainable boost.

Clear minor complaints and begin to heal major ones

Often you live with minor complaints like sore or stiff muscles, headaches, brain fog, sinus congestion, skin rashes, bloating, and gas. These symptoms often disappear entirely during a juice cleanse. More troublesome issues can begin to be dealt with.

Restores acid and alkaline balance

Major illnesses such as cancer all reveal a state of inflammation, which is a symptom of acidity in the body. Juicing and cleansing drinks restore the balance.

Spiritual connection and clarity

Fasting has been used throughout the ages to bring people into a state of clarity, simplicity, and grace which attunes your connection to spirit.

Retreat location

This retreat will take place in the Western Cape, South Africa, nestled at the foot of the Witkransberg, in the beautiful Overberg region. The retreat venue has a sprawling 217-hectare of indigenous fynbos and milkwood forest and is only two hours from Cape Town.

It is situated on Baviaans Fonteyn Farm, the oldest in the area. In 1791 the farm was granted to Dirk Cloete, son of Hendrick Cloete, owner of Groot Constantia and one of the Cape’s largest landowners at the time. The land has been divided, changed, and reshaped since then, but the present owner has carefully created a sanctuary for those who wish to explore the thoroughfares of the heart and mind.

Raw food meals and juices are thoughtfully and lovingly created by raw food chef and nutrition expert Lisa Rae Tarr and will astound you with their unbelievably delicious tastes and variety, and inspire you to a new way of feeding yourself and your family.

The Whole Truth Retreat uses locally sourced and organically grown fruit and vegetables, providing you with high quality, fresh produce that offers the deepest and most complete cleanse, and restores your body to a state of balance and satisfied nourishment.

They grow their own wheatgrass and microgreens, vibrant with life force and phytonutrients for only-just-harvested plant power. Things to do (optional)

Enjoy whale watching and beaches

Just a few minutes drive from Bodhi Khaya are some of the most spectacular beaches on the Whale Coast. In near-by De Kelders there is a wide stretch of coast line that is protected as a national nature reserve.

Each year between the months of July and November, this beautiful bay is home to hundreds of southern right whales who spend months playing with their newborn calves. To sit on the rocks at De Kelders and watch these stunning mammals in the water is truly a wonderful experience.

Explore nearby towns

A short 15-minutes drive from Bodhi Khaya is the "whale watching capital of the world" that is Gansbaai, a traditional fishing village, and bustling, vibrant center for the surrounding farms. Almost equidistant in the other direction is the charming heritage village of Stanford. Established by Sir Robert Stanford in the 1800s, there are many heritage buildings, coffee shops, restaurants. and galleries to explore. Both Stanford and Gansbaai offer visitors a long list of activities - from wine tasting, and other culinary delights, to quad biking, hiking, and even scenic flights!

Go for hiking

Winding through 217 hectares of pristine Fynbos and Milkwood forests are six magical hiking trails. You can wander through an ancient forest and meditate under the old milkwood tree that’s been around for decades. Or follow the farm loop trail along the top of the farm for spectacular views of the valley and catch a glimpse of the ocean in the far distance.

Discover meditation circles and ponds in secluded nooks in the forest and gaze in wonder at the wild pincushions and proteas turning the hills orange in spring. Have a swim in the many dams along the way. Each trail has its own character, as it meanders through a different section of the farm.

Refine personal practice

At Bodhi Khaya there is plenty of space and opportunity to practice your yoga, deepen your meditation, or simply be at one with nature. Their beautiful meditation hall provides a tranquil, contemplative, safe, and nurturing space for your practice. Guided meditations are available on request.

Relax swimming in the dams

Besides the meditation hall and labyrinth are two beautiful swimming dams. The first is a Lilly dam where you can bathe in the beauty of the lilies. The second dam is a tranquil and water hole that you may have to share with swallows at the end of a hot summer's day.

Walk the labyrinth

The labyrinth at the venue is exquisitely crafted in harmony with the floral eco-system and incorporates fynbos, aloes and other indigenous plants within its rings.

It was built by Amber McIntyre and Jesse Jessup and is lovingly maintained by all staff members.

Situated directly under the powerful mountain and surrounded by protective trees, this particular labyrinth invites you to consciously connect with the earth and elements as you walk inwards to center.
