In this retreat, you will stay at various accommodations provided by The Travel Yogi.

Reykjavik hotel room options

Superior rooms

Superior rooms offer comfort with Scandinavian luxury. Enjoy clean and crisp rooms with en-suite bathrooms and bask in the thoughtful extras of heated towel racks (a welcome luxury), long tubs and deep, and comfortable beds. All Superior rooms look out onto bustling Reykjavik or the harbor. The country hotel rooms are comfort-basic rooms (two twins or one queen) with en-suite bathrooms and perfectly placed for stunning countryside wandering.

Atrium rooms

Atrium rooms offer many of the same comforts of the Superior Executive room with a few slight differences. Atrium rooms will look in towards the spacious and natural-light filled lobby area and will be slightly smaller than their SUperior cousins. All of these rooms can accommodate two beds for roommates and are a wonderfully comfortable alternative to the Superior rooms.

Atrium rooms are also comfortable and clean-lined-Scandinavian style. All rooms have an en-suite bathroom and can be either two twin beds or one queen bed. Each of these rooms overlooking the inner atrium of the hotel. The country hotel rooms are comfort-basic rooms (two twins or one queen) with en-suite bathrooms and perfectly placed for stunning countryside wandering.

South Iceland rooms

The rooms in the south are all clean and neat country-comfort with en-suite bathrooms. It is smaller and more basic than the city hotel rooms but with unrivaled views. Gaze out onto the surrounding fields dotted with the property’s host of Icelandic horses or towards the museum building beautifully constructed, in part, with volcanic rock. Rooms will be configured with either two twin beds or one king based on your initial room request.

In all its seasons and many facets, an Iceland yoga retreat is an extraordinary adventure. It is a journey that will bring you alive, energized, and inspired on and off the mat. Explore waterfalls and geysers, case the city, rest in the south surrounded by Icelandic horses, check out the out-of-this-world terrain, and chillax in the Blue Lagoon! This adventure is for the adventurous. Bring your open mind and heart and The Travel Yogi will take care of the rest.

Aurora Borealis, or the Northern Lights, light up the Iceland sky during this time of year, which is such a beautiful backdrop to explore the light within. With this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, you can bask in the beauty of waterfalls, trek through caves, and explore blue lagoons. All levels of practitioners will find the daily yoga practices to be both accessible and empowering.

Morning sessions will include vigorous alignment-based yoga and meditation to awaken your senses and prepare your body and soul for the rich adventures of Iceland’s magnificence. Evening practices will include Restorative yoga, Nidra yoga, and myofascial release to soothe your physical and subtle body alike. Experience a weeklong adventure of rejuvenation and relaxation, beauty, and transformation!

Yoga retreat schedules will vary slightly based on weather and final itineraries that will go out to the travel crew about a month prior to departure. The itinerary below gives you an overall picture of what a weeklong yoga retreat in Iceland will look like.

Day 1

Early (very early for most of us) morning arrival in Iceland. Then, transfer to Reykjavik (approximately one hour) and drop bags off at the hotel. After the arrival, rejuvenate with a full breakfast (with coffee!) and take a few moments to relax. Later, head out for a walking foodie tour of Reykjavik. Get your bearings and a gastronomical tour of this eaty-eclectic country.

After the tour, you can play in downtown or stroll back and check in to your room. After evening de-plane and welcome yoga class, you full your belly with a group welcome dinner.

Day 2

Enjoy morning yoga and group buffet breakfast before heading out. Today, you will head out to visit the homes of the elves, Vikings (only kinda kidding), and the stunning Reykjanes Peninsula, which will include:

  • day trip down to Hafnarfjördur (for the elves)
  • a visit to Kleifarvatn for a view of the seismically beautiful Kleifarvarvatn and a walk in the “bridge” between the American and Eurasian tectonic plates
  • check out the geothermal epicenter of Seltún Geothermal Area; blue clay and bubbling hot spring included
  • wander out among the fumaroles and hot springs of Gunnuhver and watch out for Gunna the ghost

After a day of exploring, you will head over for a soak in the warm-zen-goodness of the Blue Lagoon. Here, you will have a few hours to relax in the waters and chill. The entrance includes: a pre-treatment in-water silica mud mask, a drink of your choice from the swim-up bar in the lagoon, and a skin smoothing-tightening-glowing-all-around-awesome in-water algae mask.

After the tour, head back for an evening yoga class and dinner on your own tonight.

Day 3

Up early today for breakfast and packing for the Iceland nature adventure. Today, you will head out of town to cover half-ish of the Golden Circle and secret-surprise stops in the process where you will experience several activities as follows:

  • photo opportunities at Gullfoss’ (the Golden Falls) natural and massive gorgeousness
  • education time at Thingvellir, Iceland’s old parliament and one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites
  • watch Strokkur (geyser) explode
  • and maybe, maybe a secret stop for you Game of Thrones fan

Later, arriving in the late afternoon / early evening near the base of the Hekla volcano and you will check in and roll out your mats for yoga. The dinner for tonight is in a room with floor to ceiling views of Hekla and the stars. In this your first night out in nature, you will enjoy a fantastic time to watch for the northern lights (November - April only). You can also jump in the Viking pool on-property for some natural spring warmth while you light spy.

Day 4

In this day, your morning yoga class will take place in Hekla’s beauty from the practice space. After the practice, fill up with breakfast and get ready for a day of a natural exploration. In the winter, your days will change as your more adventurous spots are weather-permitting. Any season, on the other hand, you will head to the black sand beach and crazy nature-cut rock formations on the coast. You will build in enough time at your exclusive location to allow time with the Icelandic horses that roam the property for those who would like to ride.

Later, head in for early evening yoga and dinner. Your second night in nature will, hopefully, bring your second night of light sightings (during the light season).

Day 5

Enjoy early morning yoga and breakfast at the hotel. Later, pack up and say goodbye to the south as you will head back to the humming Reykjavik. On your drive back, you will hit up the remaining half of the Golden Circle, hit up to Kerid crater, wow at Faxi waterfall, visiting the ‘good troll’ burial site at Haukadalur, Vígðalaug historical site (Icelandic ‘Holy Pool’), and other sneaky spots.

When you arrive, rock back into Reykjavik in time for evening yoga. After the sessions, you can trip into town for some city-vibes and dinner.

Day 6

Have a good morning yoga and breakfast. Today is your last day in Iceland and your one free day where you can spend your time nabbing your last photos or souvenirs or checking out any of the following:

  • Harpa concert hall
  • Icelandic Phallological Museum
  • an Icelandic cooking class
  • head to the elf school
  • enjoy a spa day
  • hit up a local pool
  • troll in the awesome art galleries
  • hop on for a glacier hiking tour
  • there is never a shortage of options in Iceland

Later, enjoy an early evening yoga class and closing circle with final group dinner and a happy goodbye to the week afterward.
