The Sanctuary is a space to learn, to share, to dance, to sing, to explore your inner self, to integrate unintegrated emotions, to feel joy, and to help you to heal yourself from diseases. The Sanctuary is not a hotel or a hostel. Although The Sanctuary is referred to as a retreat center, it is not like any other retreat centers so please come without expectations. The Sanctuary is a large family house in which everyone supports each other in their healing processes.
The Sanctuary is housed in a luxurious colonial-style five-bedroom house set within a walled garden in a peaceful neighborhood. The Sanctuary offers a choice of private or shared rooms. Despite their own unique energy, the rooms offer proper personal space, comfort, tranquility, and inspiration.
The mandala master suite is the most luxurious room at The Sanctuary. It has a queen bed, its own luxury bathroom, with bathtub and shower as well as a large private balcony looking over the garden. Facing east, it has that vibrant light from the morning sun as well as the evening freshness when it's time to relax. Large windows and fans help this to be the coolest room in the house.
The love casita has its own shaded rooftop space to relax, read a book, or watch the sunset. Located in the garden, within the walls of The Sanctuary, the love casita offers a more private space than the rooms in the main house. It has a queen bed and its own separate entrance gate, and it can also be accessed through the garden.
The nirvana room is sometimes used as a shared room and sometimes as a private room. It does not have its own bathroom but shares the upstairs bathroom with the guests in the ascension and healing room. It has one queen size bed and a bunk bed so can be used for up to four people.
The peace room is a semi-private room separated in two using a room divider for massage sessions. This is another shared room which is located downstairs just inside the front door. The layout is exactly the same as the ascension room and it contains another queen bed and one single bed.

Puerto Escondido, in the estate of Oaxaca, combines the most exciting elements of the Mexican Pacific Ocean. Its mountains roll down towards the sea to bathe in the deep blue waters creating a fascinating landscape. You will find restaurants, bars, galleries, and music festivals.
The Sanctuary is located in a suburban area. There are noises around such as dogs barking, roosters crowing, often during the night and early mornings, and local vendors with loudspeakers from their vehicles. The center is about 100 meters from a basketball court where events and parties are sometimes held with very loud music.
This usually occurs only once or twice a month, but can be more frequent during holiday periods. They also have a neighbour who turns his music up very loud during the day, once or twice a month. Most people get used to the sounds around. Others are disturbed and have trouble sleeping. Please obtain earplugs if you feel this may be a problem for you.
The sanctuary serves mostly raw and gluten-free food. They are usually unable to cater to individual dietary restrictions, but please ask in advance if you have any specific needs so they can let you know if they can be accommodated. Eating mostly raw food gives you far more energy than processed food. Their aim is to serve around 80 percent raw food. No coffee, meat, fish, processed foods or dairy products are allowed in the grounds of The Sanctuary Yoga Retreat Center.
The normal menu consists of a large green smoothie for breakfast, sometimes with one or more tonics such as ginger, moringa, turmeric, Agnihotra ash, cardamon, cinnamon, aloe vera, cayenne, or cloves, and a nutritious and healthy vegan lunch and dinner. All meals are homemade with lots of love.
Although avoiding snacking between meals might be more supportive to the healing process, for those who wish there is usually a supply mid-morning "Nutri-meal snack" and either a mid-afternoon drink or fresh fruit. If you find you would like additional food, then there is a fruit seller just one minute walk from The Sanctuary gate so you can buy more fruit for yourself.
You are welcome to store a small amount of vegan and nonprocessed personal food in the kitchen fridge but please do label it with your name to avoid confusion. You may find it supportive to your health to supplement the food they provide with some superfoods like spirulina and maca, which are not included in the price. They are available for purchase at Moringa Fresh and Wild which is about 10 minutes walk from The Sanctuary.
If you are not used to such a clean diet, you may experience detox symptoms such as flu-like feelings, body aches, and pains, headaches, tiredness, and emotional outbreaks. As you eat higher vibration foods, the old lower vibration energies in your body will release in physical and emotional forms. The symptoms may be reduced by following some of the healing modalities which are included in the price of your stay.
The center fasts on Sundays with water, coconut water, and fruit. Fasting gives your digestive system a rest and provides an opportunity to focus on the spiritual. Although not required, if fruit or coconut water is not enough for you, you can visit one of the many nearby restaurants. No food preparation is done on Sundays.
Please be aware that access to the kitchen is strictly limited to those who are cooking, prepping, and cleaning up, and it is not available for guests to use. No food is allowed in bedrooms to avoid attracting insects.
The center is currently using filtered tap water. They are always looking for ways to improve the purity and vibration of the water and invite their guests to help them investigate options.
You will be staying close to a beautiful Mexican beach so you can take part of several activities such as surfing, swimming, boating or simply relax under a palm tree. You can also choose to do some volunteer work at The Sanctuary or book one of their massages.
If you are travelling from outside of Mexico the best way is to fly to Mexico City International Airport (MEX). Then from Mexico City, you can fly to Puerto Escondido International Airport (PXM).
You can take an airport-approved white taxi at a cost of around 150 MXN or you can take an airport-approved shared taxi for about 70 MXN. You can get one of these outside of the airport door. Alternatively, you can walk to the highway, cross the road and get a green and white taxi at a cost of around 50 MXN. Another option is to take a shared taxi or a colectivo (pick up truck with canopy over the back and bench seats inside). Both of these cost 6 MXN.
