Gayles is a small retreat center ideally situated in the outstanding countryside on the south downs in the South East of England, five miles from Eastbourne and 15 miles from Brighton. Here, rural doesn’t mean hard to reach, there are excellent train services from the nearby towns that provide direct travel to and from London Victoria, Gatwick, Ashford International, Brighton, and so on. The environment and ambiance encourage an open, safe, relaxed, and intimate atmosphere which promotes learning and self-development.

There are two recently renovated dormitories, ‘The Studio’ and ‘The Playroom’, which offer simple but comfortable and reasonably spacious accommodation.

While this accommodation is mainly a dormitory style retreat, there are a couple of rooms that are suitable for either double / twin or single accommodation (with shared bathroom). If you are interested in one of these rooms please get in contact as soon as possible to reserve it.

The Stables

The Stables affords separate, self-contained accommodation usually for the facilitators and their helpers; sleeping up to five people in two double bedrooms and one single. There is a study area (which has a quality television and DVD player), a shower room with a toilet and a bathroom (with a huge bath and another toilet). As you would expect, the furnishing and facilities are all of a very high standard and the space allows you room to study, plan and run individual or small group sessions in privacy and comfort.

The Studio and Playroom

The Studio sleeps eleven people, has two showers and two toilets and The Playroom sleeps six and has one shower and one toilet. Together, both dormitories offer simple, high quality, comfortable and reasonably spacious single-gender accommodation for up to seventeen people. There are good quality, sturdy single and bunk beds with individual storage drawers. Duvets, pillows, linen and towels are provided. Basic hot drink making facilities are also available in the dormitories. Please note that bedlinen and towels will be supplied; students make their own beds on arrival.

Practice area

Set a little away from the other buildings, in the corner of a meadow and edged by a hedgerow, The Old Cowshed is a wonderful large (approximately 14 x 8 meters), light studio space purposefully restored to make it ideal for lessons and practice. It has a singular ambience; a sense of calm and quiet beauty that encourages study, self-development, and contemplation.

There will be Dynamic sessions, Gentle sessions, pranayama, and Nidra yoga to get your yoga fill. You will also have some free time to enjoy the facilities which include an outdoor swimming pool, not to mention the wonderful surrounding area that you will definitely want to explore.

Gayles is situated off the A259, mid-way between Eastbourne and Seaford and about one mile from the picturesque village of East Dean. It is easy to find and access is excellent.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 50% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid 14 days before arrival.
