Clare Rodea Ryan, your host and an experienced yoga teacher, will be guiding you on a truly unforgettable retreat experience. The Quaives is situated in a stunning and peaceful part of the Kent countryside, with 19 acres of beautifully manicured gardens, state of the art yoga studio with underfloor heating, and a communal area with log fire, you won't want to leave! They have taken extra measures to ensure safety and cleanliness, and have reduced their capacity to half to allow for social distancing.

The Quaives is a beautiful small countryside estate in East Kent, with 19 acres of beautiful formal gardens and grounds to explore, that open onto meadows and the lakes beyond. There is a tennis court and cedarwood pavilion for guests' use.

Dormitory

The dormitory has access to three toilets and three showers.

Fuchsia cottage

Fuchsia cottage has two bedrooms, one bedroom with two single beds and another with a double bed, a lounge, kitchen, and bathroom.

Songbird Cottage

Songbird Cottage is a one to two persons (private) cottage, and it has one bedroom with a kingsize bed (or twin singles), open plan lounge-kitchen, and bathroom.

Bumble Bee Cottage

Bumble Bee Cottage is a one to two persons (private) cottage that has one bedroom with a kingsize bed, open plan lounge-kitchen, and bathroom.

Yoga studio

The studio itself can comfortably accommodate up to 20 with lots of space plus teachers. It is incredibly light and spacious, and it has underfloor heating throughout. The studio is also available between yoga sessions for silent meditation and time to yourself.

Saloon and kitchen

Everyone eats in the Saloon, a self-contained building next to the studio. It is a Scandinavian style cafeteria, with self-help tea, water and fruit on offer at one end and with sofas and a log burner at the other end where guests can chill, read and chat, and help themselves to cups of tea.

Program

For thousands of years it has been recognised that to come to a place of balance in life, one needs active, dynamic aspects and also slow, self nurturing and calming aspects too. The dynamic practice you’ll focus on in the mornings is a stronger Hatha Flow, which helps to detoxify the body, build strength and flexibility, and motivate your sense of purpose. Whilst the restorative sessions will include a relaxing yoga, meditation, yoga Nidra (deep relaxation) and breathwork.

This yoga holiday will be taught by Clare Rodea Ryan, an experienced retreat teacher, and they are equally open to beginners and those with plenty of experience. Those with injuries are also welcome and you will be offered help to modify poses if needed.

There will be plenty of time to enjoy the stunning gardens at the Quaives, complete with hot tub, walks in the beautiful countryside that surrounds the gardens, and for those that feel very energetic there is the tennis court!

Guests can help themselves to teas / filtered water during the weekend, and relax inside the saloon with comfy sofas and a log burner at one end for chilling, reading or chatting to other group members.

This retreat helps you to find an inner state of balance. When you’re feeling nurtured and positive on the inside, this feeling then tends to ripple out into your life and helps you make authentic choices, which can all bring about greater happiness.

These days, many people lead busy lives with more of a "doing" emphasis, and so slow practices like Restorative yoga, meditation and yoga Nidra can be a great counterbalance and help one to invite a sense of "being." This "being" state helps to calm the mind and the central nervous system and can help us feel more peaceful and content in ourselves.

In this retreat, you’ll also experience some more dynamic practices, which are very effective at releasing ingrained tensions stored in the body, building strength and igniting our sense of drive.

The intention behind these retreats is to offer you a wide range of practices that will help to reset your system and leave you feeling recharged, while giving the space for self reflection within a warm and welcoming environment.

The Quaives is situated 15 minutes from Canterbury and nestled between two idyllic Kent villages: Ickham and Wickhambreaux with stunning countryside, rivers, and streams all around. The Quaives is in easy reach of London: by car from east London takes 70 minutes, train 70 minutes from Saint Pancreas to Canterbury West and a 15-minute taxi (which The Quaives can help organize for 15 GBP and they can help organize cab share as well).

The Quaives' highly trained chefs will be serving wholesome tasty meals, snacks, and drinks to deeply nourish and replenish your whole being, complimenting the yoga classes and meditations. A lot of their ingredients are sourced locally and organic where possible. All the meals are vegetarian, and they cater for vegans and those with intolerances and allergies.

The food, snacks, and drinks are lovingly prepared by the onsite retreat chefs, meticulously well planned to give you tasty and nutritious food to help reboot your system, leaving you feeling rejuvenated, reenergized and inspired. Guests can help themselves to teas and filtered water during the weekend, and relax inside the saloon with comfy sofas and a log burner at one end for chilling, reading or chatting to other group members.

Spa treatments

There is a local spa a 20-minute walking or a 2-minute drive away, they do Ayurvedic massage and The Quaives would be happy to help you organize a treatment during your stay. Booking in advance is essential.

Abhyanga Full Body Massage is a traditional Ayurvedic massage using herb-infused oils to relax the body and ease tension. The massage is followed by a steam bath to cleanse and remove toxins, enhancing overall well-being. 55 GBP, allow one hour (one therapist).

Chakra Prayer Massage is a deeply relaxing and meditative body massage designed to create balance, harmony and healing within the seven chakras and restore union to both body and mind (male therapist only). 55 GBP, allow one hour.

Hot Stone Massage: Find peace of mind from this relaxing and soothing body massage, using hot mineral stones followed by a warm envelopment of the feet. 55 GBP, allow one hour.

Indian Head Massage or Back and Shoulder Massage: These massages encourage relaxed muscles and improved posture, reduce stress and tension, soothe aches and pains and restore good health 30 GBP, allow 30 minutes.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Driving directions from M2

  • Take M2 then A2
  • Carry on past the sign for Canterbury and take the exit for Bridge, it's quicker.
  • At the junction take the left for Patrixbourne, it will take you through Bekesbourne and past Howlets Safari Park
  • Carry on until the end of the road, where you will meet Wingham Road, take a left and an immediate right on to Nargate Street
  • Continue down Nargate street until you find yourself in Wickhambreaux
  • Go around the village green past the Rose Inn pub and take the turning straight ahead on to The Street and you will see a small village school ahead
  • Take the next right onto Seaton Road
  • Carry on until you see a children's playground on your left, and the retreat entrance is right next door with two iron gates, just buzz the buzzer and you will be allowed in.

Arrival by train

  • There is the fast train from St Pancreas which takes 70 minutes or from Stratford which takes 49 minutes to Canterbury West, make sure you get a return ticket it is much cheaper than buying singles.

Arrival by taxi

  • The Quaives can help organize a taxi with the local firm to give you a 15-minute lift, or there are plenty of taxis always waiting at the station, rides cost 15 GBP.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 25% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid 30 days before arrival.
