This 8-day retreat is a time to unwind, find new inspiration, find yourself, feel refreshed and deepen your practice. At The Field Retreat, our expert instructors will guide you on this yoga, pilates, and vegan food adventure.
It will be a balance of relaxation, cleansing, strength building, alignment, and learning. You will stay in charming and cosy eco-accommodation while enjoying this fun, and healthy week. You can work as hard or as gently as you wish each day, and feel your body and your mind connect in peaceful harmony.
The Field has accommodation for 10 indoors, and plenty of space for camping, if you prefer to sleep under the stars. The rooms are eco-responsibly restored from an old barn and pigsty, using only repurposed and recycled materials. They have two single rooms and three twin and doubles, two with shared bathroom, and one double with an en-suite. There is a separate kitchen shared between all guests, so if you prefer to make your own food, or you don't want a completely vegan week, you will have the opportunity to make some dishes for yourself also.
This wonderful week of yoga, Pilates, and vegan food is based in an old farmhouse with amazing vista views of the quiet French countryside. Your wonderful instructors will guide you through your yoga and Pilates practice each day and also be available to help you answer individual questions throughout the week.
There is plenty of space on the property, and ample free time for you to relax, meditate, read, be crafty, or join other activities that happen around the farm should you wish. With several local attractions, there are also plenty of places close by for you to explore if you'd rather get out and about.
The retreat starts in the afternoon of your arrival day. Guests will have time to settle in and relax after their journey, then depending on their arrival time, you will do some basic exercises and stretching before your welcome vegan dinner.
Mornings will start with Eric's yoga class, followed by a refreshment break - or breakfast if you haven't had it yet!
After this, everyone will have some free time to do as they wish. There are places to read, meditate, sketch, write, or simply soak up the view before lunch.
After lunch break, you will start Helen's Pilates class and workshop, where there will be plenty of time for questions, requests, and some fun too.
If it's hot, you might want to jump in the plunge pool before dinner.
Those wanting to learn to cook the delicious vegan food you'll be eating are welcome to join Eric in the kitchen while he's creating.
There will be one morning or afternoon set aside for some sightseeing should you wish to visit one or more of the local attractions. There is plenty to see nearby, and a break in the schedule is very beneficial.
They usually round-up the week in the evening before your travel day, but there is the possibility to do some easy stretching exercises for anyone leaving later in the day.
Pilates is both a physical and mental body-conditioning program, which uses exercise to restore natural, normal movement and good posture. It increases body awareness, flexibility, strength, tone, coordination, stamina, and general health.
A vegan diet is one that consists of only plant-derived foods. Vegans don't use or consume any animals or animal products (land or sea animals), including meat, hide, bone, milk, eggs, or honey.
So what do vegans eat? You'd be surprised- there is a whole world of exciting foods to be explored. With incredibly diverse flavours made up of fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, seeds, beans, and pulses, not only can all your favourite things, from cookies to pizzas be made suitable for a vegan diet, but your list of new favourite dishes is sure to expand.
Your creativity and curiosity will grow as you realize the endless combinations that will leave you wanting more.
After a long career in the theater as a dancer, teacher, and choreographer, Helen now teaches Pilates. Having a family at the end of her career, it seemed the only logical thing to change focus and begin a new, quieter way of life. Helen and Eric opened Cardiff Pilates Studio with the intention of settling down there, but life took another turn and lured them away to the beautiful countryside in rural France. Three years ago, they launched The Field. Based in an old farmhouse, The Field is an amazing place, filled with regenerative energy, and tranquility.
Eric was trained as a Pilates instructor in New York by Fran Lehen, herself a student of Carola Strauss (one of Joseph Pilates' original students). He has been an instructor for almost 20 years, first at Fran's studio in New York, followed by his own studio in Copenhagen, then together with Helen at Cardiff Pilates Studio, and now at The Field. As an ex-modern dancer, dance teacher, masseur, and yoga teacher, he has a great understanding of different body types and individual needs. He has been particularly successful helping clients with spinal problems.
The Field Retreat is nestled in the rolling hills of the Creuse countryside. It is wonderfully peaceful, surrounded by fields, trees, and breathtaking views. The surrounding area is dotted with tiny hamlets, pretty villages, a forest and has a wealth of history to discover. There is a blueberry farm, and an animal sanctuary that host visitors, and an activity centre, all within a few minutes drive.
There are several cafés, bars and restaurants in the nearest village run by very friendly and welcoming hosts. Each village has its own market day, where the local farmers sell their fresh produce and many local artisans sell their creations.
A superb place to visit, whether you are looking for plenty of activities and places to visit or just to relax and unwind.

The Field Retreat provides delicious homestyle vegan meals, all included in the package. The food served is made from as many local products as possible. You are welcome to come and learn how to cook all the wonderful dishes served.
If you wish to make your own creation, there is also a guest kitchen for your use and a supermarket six minutes away. They do their very best to cater for all dietary requests, just let them know your needs.
The Field Retreat does not provide alcoholic beverages so as not to distract anyone wishing to stick to a healthy diet. However, guests who wish to enjoy some French wine or such with dinner are very welcome to do so.
These are extraordinary granite stones. A beautiful walk through the forest will find you at the top of Mount Barlot where the stones rest, where you'll also have panoramic views of the Berry and the Valley of Boussac. For many centuries, visitors have tried to discover the history of these stones but still to this day, the mystery of their origin remains.
There are several different excursion options including a guided walk through the forest to Les Pierres Jaumâtres, a trip to a local village, the local antique stores or perhaps Boussac Château.
There are also many events that happen throughout the year, so please contact The Field Retreat to find out more or make a request or booking. Depending on the activity, they might have to re-arrange your advertised schedule a little to accommodate the activity. The Field Retreat can also arrange a basket making workshop, canoeing, tree adventures with zip-lines, or horse riding at an extra cost.
There is the possibility to arrange a massage for 50 euro. Just contact us for more details beforehand.
