Reconnect with nature and yourself in this wonderful experience combining Himalayan trek and yoga retreat. This retreat, organized by The Body and Mind Company, is a must for nature lovers. The trek is unspoiled and natural, lying on the lap of the Uttarakhand's Himalaya region which offers views of the imposing Himalaya range. It is a relatively easy trek which makes it ideal for beginners as well as regular trekkers. The morning and evening yoga practices will ensure to give you the right stamina and stretching required to enjoy this nature trek fully.
You will spend the first and last night at the Yog Niketan Hotel in Rishikesh and rest of the retreat will be camping.
The Chopta - Tungnath - Chandrashila trek is a must destination for nature lovers and those who are passionate for trekking. The Chopta - Chandrashila route is a famous destination for trekkers and is becoming popular among birdwatchers because of an abundance of birds and rare Himalayan species of birds and musk deers.
The region has many trails cutting through jungles and grasslands. The Chopta - Chandrashilla trek is unspoiled natural destination lying on the lap of the Uttarakhand Himalayas and offers views of the imposing Himalayan range.
Arrival at your hotel in Rishikesh, welcome and introduction dinner with your first yoga and meditation session.
Early morning, you drive to Sari village via Devprayag. Your drive to the trek destination will take around seven hours including comfortably timed breaks for breakfast and lunch. From Sari village, the amazing trek will begin spanning over two and half hours to three hours. As you trek, you can see the reflection of amazing surroundings in the crystal clear lake, often known as ‘two worlds at one place’ and you will go through dense forests of Rhoderidrons and wild flowers.
Your trek to Deori Tal will run parallel by the holy rivers Ganga and Alaknanda. Upon arrival to Deori Tal, set out the tents for overnight stay and before dinner, you will have your yoga and meditation session.
On the third day, the trek to Chopta will start after your morning session and breakfast at the camp. While walking the ascending trails, you can feel the fragrance of mixed forests which include oak trees and pine. The snow-filled hills will make you forget every worry and you will experience serenity. You will be lucky to spot 'Monal' - a bird of this place known for its beauty. A number of trekkers have also spotted deers in the vicinity.
Once you reach Chopta, you can take rest for some time and get re-energized after a refreshing cup of tea and snacks. Set out tents for overnight stay. In the evening, practice yoga in the magnificent view of the Himalayas.
Allowing you to relax and enjoy the forests, this day will start with your morning yoga practice followed by a wildlife trek in the vicinity of the camp in Chopta. You are likely to find barking deer and musk deer passing in the woods, and Monal. Finish the day with your sunset yoga practice.
After having morning yoga practice and breakfast, proceed with your trek towards Tungnath. After enjoying the beautiful scenery at Chopta and spending cozy time in the lapse of landscapes, Tungnath will offer you some spirituality and peace. This hike will lead you to the holy temple named as Tungnath temple which is the highest Shiva temple in the world. Enjoy one of the most breathtaking and beautiful vistas in the Kedar, Chaukhamba, and other peaks in the vicinity. Though in this area, you may also get to see a few rare species of eagles.
You can also see the amazing forests around the temple and also the peak of Bandarpoonch as well. On both the sides of Chopta, you can see green slopes and feel the cool breeze. You can have a tea break while trekking and rest on the bulky stone shaped dining tables in between the path while returning to Chopta. Back at Chopta basecamp, you can relax with a restorative yoga session as the trek comes to an end. You will have overnight camping experience in Chopta.
On day six, after your morning yoga practice and breakfast, you drive to Rishikesh, have lunch, and will reach Rishikesh by evening. You will have evening meditation, goodbye dinner, and overnight stay in Rishikesh hotel.
On day seven, you have the option to either depart back to airport, taking back home with you this wonderful experience and many memories or enjoy the day relaxing and visiting Rishiskesh the capital city of yoga.
You will be in Rishikesh for one day and one night, before going to Chopta Chandrashilla route and trek for five days and four nights, then go back to Rishikesh.
Yogini Joelle is an E-RYT 500-hour Yoga Alliance instructor from Canada. She has practiced yoga for the last 22 years and has been teaching in the UAE for last seven years. With her background in martial arts, physical fitness, and dance, Joelle often draws inspiration from Tai Chi, dance, and Pilates moves incorporating them into flowing asana sequences. Her teaching style encourages self-challenge which enables students to strengthen their bodies while simultaneously working on the energetic level with prana or chi and challenges the mind through focus and awareness.

First night and last night dinner and breakfast are included and all meals and drinks during the trek are provided. Simple vegetarian food, snacks, tea, and water will be provided during the retreat.
You can do the nature photography and bird watching or you can visit Beatles Ashram where the Beatles got in touch with their Eastern spiritual side, writing several songs during a 1968 stint at a local ashram or you can visit temples in Rishikesh. Rafting is an absolute must in Rishikesh.
