Thaulle means "shore" in the local language. For travelers that want to escape the noise of the world for a while, the Singhalese word will soon become synonymous with magic. Right at the doorstep Sri Lanka awaits you with its unique flora, fauna and cultural treasures. Be their guest and bring your mind and body back to balance with Ayurveda treatment program. The Thaulle Resort is becoming a hotspot as a yoga retreat and Ayurveda centre in the southeast of Sri Lanka. As they only employ excellent teachers and doctors, they are able to provide a life changing experience to the valued guests. The yoga concept is based on the teachings of Maharishi Patanjali, who is also referred to as the Father of Yoga. Thaulle Resort follow Ashtanga Yoga and the main base is Hatha Yoga. One of the advantages in Thaulle Resort is the fact that the Yoga sessions can be combined with Ayurveda treatments. Ayurveda is often used to boost and further benefit Yoga. Yoga and Ayurveda are a perfect team for health, wellbeing and rejuvenation. As the Hotel has its own Ayurveda doctor, the guest is free to have a consultation anytime.
Every stay at our hotel is unique because none of our 28 residential rooms are alike. You can watch the fascinating play of nature’s colors from your room’s balcony each morning as the rising sun reflects on the surface of Lake Yoda. Each of the rooms at Thaulle Resort has its own panorama windows and balcony. You can also enjoy a great view of the lake from our restaurant and garden.
Our hotel is uniquely designed and influenced by traditionally Singhalese craftsmanship as well as by the work of Sri Lanka’s famous architect Geoffrey Bawa. All rooms were furnished by local builders and follow the guidelines of Vastu, an ancient Indian system of harmonic architecture. Enjoy the unique charm of your room that is complemented by Singhalese antiquities and wood from Lake Yoda.
West meets East in the design of the bathrooms: white ceramic sinks and bath tubs as well as chromatically designed amenities and shower heads from Europe create a beautiful juxtaposition with dark brown, almost rusty-looking stone tiles from Sri Lanka. Handmade vases are filled with fragrant, locally produced natural cosmetics; further tasteful bathroom accessories are made of recycled wood.
Translated from Indian, "Ayurveda" means "knowledge of life". Thaulle Resort Sri Lanka has built a separate center for the Ayurveda guests. It is situated slightly away from the rest of the hotel to enable you to focus on your treatment without any distractions. Each treatment is customized to your personal needs and follows a holistic concept that includes a special diet and medication as well.
Dr. Upul has over 20 years experience in treating European guests. During your stay, an English- and German-speaking assistant will answer any questions you might have with regards to your treatment. In the beginning of your treatment, you will consult with the doctor, are examined and given a diagnosis based on which Dr. Upul will assign you to a Dosha type (Vata, Pitta, Kapha and mixed forms).
During the detox treatment, he will provide you with natural medications from his pharmacy; around 70 percent of the plants used in these medications grow in the garden of the hotel. Meal plans based on the individual Dosha types will provide the guests with three (good!) meals a day and their positive effects on mind and body. You will enjoy delicious meals while losing weight and learning how to live healthily.
On average, there are 4 treatments per day, totaling around 1 hour and 40 minutes. Initially, the doctor will examine you. Then the doctor will arrange your individual daily treatment schedule based on the Ayurveda principles. Our doctor is supervising all treatments. At the end of the stay you have one final consultation.
The Wellness Cure is ideal for people who don’t have any medical problems but want to relax their mind, alleviate their stress and gain more vitality.

The most important parts of a visit to Kataragama are the viewings of Kiri Vehera and Maha Devale, a stupa and a temple that are of extraordinary importance for most Singhalese.

If you’re an early riser, you might want to decide to make the 10 minute drive in a tuktuk and visit the fish market in Kirinda. Enjoy the breathtaking view of the sunrise before you experience the daily business of the fish market. This is where local fishermen sell the catch of the day and provide the whole area of Kirinda with fresh fish. You can also decide to make your trip to the beach later in the day.
Many locals visit the beach on the weekend. If you drive along the coastline for a couple of kilometers, you arrive at an empty beach that exceeds all your expectations. For those of you who value peace and quiet, we can organize a trip to this special place.
Sri Lanka is known for its colorful markets where farmers sell their produce twice a week. This is where market criers promote their products, people love to bargain and buyers are always looking for the best available offers. On Thursdays and Sundays you can experience this hubbub in Tissamaharama – don’t miss out on it! Here you can find numerous vegetables and fruits that aren’t available anywhere in Europe, but are made into delicious curries here every day.
Try a King Coconut or enjoy the taste of pineapples and mangoes no European supermarket has to offer. We are happy to organize a tuktuk for you to get to the market so you can see the vegetables, fruits, spices and locals for yourself.

Udawalawa National Park is located at the border of Sabaragamuwa and the Uva Province. It is an important refugium for water birds and the majestic Sri Lanka elephant. The park is a popular tour destination and receives the third highest number of visitors among all parks in the country.
Bundala National Park is one of the most important destinations for birdwatchers in Sri Lanka.
Around 2,000 years ago, Tissamaharama was of extraordinary significance in Sri Lanka. Mahanga, the younger brother of King Devanampiya, had to flee from Anuradhapura after disagreements with the common folk and arrived in this region, where he founded Tissamaharama. After several wars with the previous inhabitants of the region, the Southern Province obtained a new area called Ruhuna. This territory provided protection for many Singhalese kings during the attacks of invaders from South India.
Tissamaharama has a rich past and the remains of these historic times can still be seen today. Complex irrigation systems like Tissa or Lake Yoda, the monasteries of Yatala Dagoba or Tissamaharama Vihara as well as the ruins of Chandagiri and even parts of the old palace of the king are sights you should not miss.
Taking a tuktuk to Tissa Wewa is great if you want to take a walk in the late afternoon and watch the sunset. Around the lake, numerous trees are home to thousands of bats that sleep during the day and become active at night.
If you want to take a closer look at Sri Lanka’s craftsmanship, we would like to invite you to a traditional ceramics workshop. The original way of producing vases, bowls and pots enables you to authentically experience Sri Lanka’s traditional roots first hand.
We accompany you to a family that has been producing traditional ceramic products for two generations. Be witness to the basic living conditions of this family and the hospitality they share with so many other Singhalese.
Bicycles are available at all times and you can make a tour to explore your surroundings. Visit many great places in your immediate neighborhood, such as fruit plantations, small shops, and discover the local village life.
