Join this yoga retreat in a luxurious waterfront retreat set on 40 acres in the beautiful Bay of Islands, New Zealand. Te Hine Ruru Retreat offers you the space and perspective to reflect on your normal daily life. The retreats are designed especially for women to enjoy daily yoga and meditation, relaxing accommodation, delicious food, and superb facilities. The guest villa accommodates six in luxurious style. With three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area, the interiors are beautifully presented. The layout respects guests’ privacy whilst offering space to relax and join others. There are outdoor decks, stunning views, and a track leading down to the private beach.
All the accommodation are twin rooms. As most guests travel on their own, the normal practice is to share a room with one other person. However, if you prefer to take a room as a single room, there will be a 60% surcharge on the normal price which reflects the fact that Te Hine Ruru Retreat will not be able to offer the place to another guest.

Group gatherings take place in the yoga space, a short walk from the guest villa. With warm timber floors, sea views, and natural surrounds, it is a peaceful sanctuary. The yoga space is fully equipped with yoga mats, blankets, eye pillows, and meditation cushions.
Te Hine Ruru Retreat is located in Russell, Bay of Islands, on the north-east coast of New Zealand. Set on 40 acres of native regenerated bush, this private waterfront estate encompasses headlands, coves, and secluded shores. If you are looking to enrich your yoga journey, this is the ideal space in which to reflect and explore and to find the freedom to move from your head to your heart.
Daily morning yoga practice is a Vinyasa-style class, which takes around 75 - 90 minutes. The yoga classes are tailored to suit all levels; to support your yoga practice. They may draw upon asana, pranayama, chanting, and deep relaxation.
The meditation session is held in the yoga space in the evening. Practices vary to best suit the group and may include guided imagery, silent seated meditation, breathing techniques, or mindfulness practices.
Once you wake up, you will be served pre-yoga snacks of dried fruit, nuts, or herbal tea and water. The morning yoga class will start by 07:30 followed by a nutritious healthy breakfast to start your day. The rest of the days is free to relax, walk, swim, take a nap, explore, or have a massage. In the evening at 18:00, you will have a guided meditation session followed by a delicious dinner overlooking the water.

The vehicle ferry service has a continuous service during the day and a reduced service between 18:00 and 22:00. Bookings on the ferry are not required and you can pay on board with cash, credit card, or eft-pos. The price is approximately 13 NZD one way for a 10-minute crossing.

From as early as Cushla can remember, her mother took her on pilgrimages mystical, magical, and adventurous pilgrimages. As a child, it didn’t matter to her that the journeys were religious, Irish Catholic no less! She has a lot to thank her mom for her spiritual discipline, reverence for tradition, and for teaching her the feminine arts of nurturing. Her upbringing provided the perfect foundation for the structure, ritual, and quiet space she brings to each day. As the years went on, Cushla discovered yoga, and in her twenties, she attended Yoga Plus in Crete, Greece eight times.
During your stay, daily breakfast and dinner are provided. Te Hine Ruru embraces a healthy lifestyle and all meals are based on vegetarian, whole food principles, and include nutritious smoothies, juices, salads, main meals, and some raw desserts. The Bay of Islands offers an abundance of fresh, organic, and artisan food; from summer berries and kiwifruit to sun-ripened avocados. Meals are presented buffet-style, for indoor or outdoor dining at the guest villa.
Lunch is not provided, so as to allow guests more flexibility. Guests are welcome to use the fully-equipped kitchen to make a light lunch or snack. Alternatively, there are many great restaurants, cafes, and a supermarket nearby. A selection of herbal tea and filtered water is available for guests at all times.
Massage or energy treatments are optional and available at 80 NZD per hour.
