This retreat is a rigorous educational program and a creative journey to help you discover your own interconnectedness with others, with nature, and with your own intuitive knowing. This unique venue is an estate that offers three private gathering spaces for movement and reflection: a pristine yoga and movement studio, the large central room of the historic plantation house with a gorgeous wood floor for dancing, and the spacious lanai or patio overlooking the grounds full of couches and chairs for more intimate meetings.
The plantation house has a spacious living room area, commercial type kitchen, dining room, and large enclosed porch. The suites and cottages has a private bath and kitchen or kitchenette complete with a granite counter with under mount sink, and includes a small refrigerator, microwave oven, toaster, and coffee maker with fresh ground coffee, teas, hot cocoa and more. The 700 square feet yoga and meditation studio is fully equipped with yoga props, a sophisticated audio and video system, and a handicap accessible bath.
Large banyan, monkeypod, and jacaranda trees create a peaceful, shady oasis amidst the many fruit trees, flowers, and sunny, wide open lawns. Swings and hammocks hang from the trees offering comfortable private places around the property, as well as a swimming pool and jacuzzi.

Sharna is a choreographer working in both dance and theatre. She grew up in Vermont and thanks her mother for unwittingly catalyzing her performing arts career with ballet classes at age five. Sharna currently lives in Los Angeles and teaches in the Department of Theater at UCLA. She also hosts retreats for women that combine yoga and tango through Tango Mujer Retreats.
Brigitta has been studying, exploring and living tango with passion for the last 30 years. She was one of the first Europeans to study Tango in Buenos Aires in the early 1980's. Following that, she contributed to the Berlin tango scene by opening one of the first tango studios in the city. She is also a founding member of Tango Mujer Dance Company, the first all-woman tango dance company in the world. She spent four years training in Body-Mind Centering®. Since 1995 she has been based in New York City, touring and teaching all over North America.

Sugandha is a lovely tanguera but a long-time teacher of many forms of dance, including one of her specialties, Hawaiian hula.
This retreat will take place in Banyan Bed and Breakfast Retreat, Baldwin Avenue, Makawao, Maui, Hawaii, United States. It is located in a quiet, rural upcountry Maui setting, a unique blend of old time Hawaii with pineapple fields, sprawling cattle ranches, breathtaking ocean, and island views.
It is a half hour drive from Kahului Airport (OGG) and seven miles from Maui's north shore beaches. At 1,500 feet elevation on the slopes of 10,000 feet Haleakala Mountain, it takes a spectacular one hour drive to the top of Haleakala. Stretching from Haiku through Makawao and Pukalani to Kula.
The retreat center has an ideal central island location for touring Maui. A half mile from the Banyan Tree House is the historic cowboy town and favorite local hangout of Makawao. Shops, restaurants, art galleries, food and health stores, spas, library and more can all be found in this friendly little town.
Seven miles down the hillside from the Banyan Bed and Breakfast is the historic sugar town of Paia. Internationally known for surfing and windsurfing, Paia town is central to Ho'okipa, Spreklesville, and Baldwin beaches. Haleakala National Park is an hour's drive up the mountain from the center. A fantastic place to go for a day of hiking or even just to watch the widely acclaimed sunrises and sunsets!
The road to Hana takes two to two and a half hour drive. It offers a truly unique and unforgettable tropical experience. The picturesque winding road is dotted with many waterfalls, spectacular ocean vistas, and rich jungle flora. Another half hour past Hana is the Kipahulu Haleakala National Park entrance with many hiking trails.

Makawao is an old historic cowboy town located in upcountry Maui, close to the Banyan Bed and Breakfast. Just ten minutes down the hill from the quiet, out of town plantation home, is the delightful town of Paia, which is the heart of Maui's famous north shore. These two towns are excellent, fun to explore, with a great variety of shops and restaurants from local food to full-on five-star dining.
Makawao is traditionally a quiet, out of the way, cowboy town, and has slowly evolved into today's usually quiet, and slightly less out of the way, center for upcountry artists, and is a popular local hangout. It is home to Casanova's, a popular Italian restaurant with music in the evenings.
Paia is a reflection of its history as a booming sugar cane plantation town with its old plantation style wooden buildings still intact. This quaint little beach town has an array of fine specialty shops, boutiques, surf shops, antique stores, bakeries, and even an old fashioned tattoo parlor. Award winning restaurants offer casual and full-service dining with local and international culinary delights.
This special place vibrates with stories of ancient and modern Hawaiian culture and protects the bond between the land and its people. The park also cares for endangered species, some of which exist nowhere else. Off the grid in pristine Kipahulu, a budding alternative lifestyle and organic farming mecca. It is located one mile down the coast from Haleakala National Park and the Seven Sacred Pools. This uniquely intimate sanctuary is a rich garden tapestry, carved out of the jungle beside the sea.
The Maui Arts and Cultural Center is a 12-acre multi-disciplinary complex which is a world-class performing arts center, visual arts gallery, and community gathering place. It is the place where locals celebrate community, creativity, and discovery. You can stroll the gallery for free, buy tickets to on-going and up-coming events, or support fundraising with free admission to the center.
Stroll the beautiful grounds of Maui’s Winery for an exclusive Maui wine experience. Enjoy a personalized tour through the beautiful historic estate, view the production area, and even arrange a private trip to the vineyards to see where it all begins.
