Come and experience the tranquility and serenity through yoga in Zanzibar with pristine white beaches, turquoise blue ocean, palm trees, and breathtaking sunsets. Experience the simplicity of the local Zanzibar lifestyle, indulge your senses in the vibrant colors, ambience, and mystical atmosphere. The combination between Marisa's yoga and Carlos' unique tango teaching system will make you learn the essence of tango magical dance and practice yoga in a beautiful surrounding.
All ages are welcome as participants.
During the retreat, you will stay at Flame Tree Cottages. It is situated in the northwestern side of the Nungwi peninsula on the north coast of Zanzibar. Nungwi is ideally situated for swimming and diving. You can see the most spectacular sunsets on this side of the island.
Flame Tree Cottages has individually styled cottages with spacious rooms and large verandas. All rooms have en suite facilities, air conditioner, ceiling fans, and a refrigerator. Some cottages have a sitting room.
There is a hammock for you to relax with a good book or sunbathe in the area facing the turquoise blue ocean and white beach, or you just lounge around the swimming pool in the garden. The tropical garden has a mixture of coconut palms, casuarinas trees, frangipani trees, and banana trees. In the garden view rooms, you can also enjoy a country atmosphere with a bird song which will be a perfect ambience for your holiday.
In this program, there will be private tango lessons and daily yoga classes taught by experienced tango and yoga teachers.
This personalized and tailor made type of lessons is the more effective and the fastest way to discover, solve questions, or just bring your tango to a different level. Through this individualized training and a step by step system, you will learn the essence of this magical dance that revolves around music interpretation while improvising with your partner and moving as one.
The yoga classes consist of morning and sunset class. You will practice Vinyasa Flow, a dynamic flow of yoga marrying movement with breath. Vinyasa Flow gives a lot more scope for variation and playfulness, it can be very intense and challenging, building heat and getting sweaty, or it can be more of a slower peaceful flow. Either way, it has a strong meditative quality.
You will start your day with morning yoga class at 8:00 a.m. Private tango lesson will be taught between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. that lasts for one hour. In the evening, you will have sunset yoga where you can experience practicing yoga in the moonlit beaches under the stars and the African drum rhythm around a beach fire.
There will be no yoga class on Saturday. You can spend your free time either relaxing, getting massaged, strolling barefoot on the beach, or swimming.
Marisa Van Vuuren
Marisa is founder of Yoga Zanzibar in 2009 and co-founder of Divine Diving, Yoga and Dive Centre in 2011. She has been living in Zanzibar since 2004. She wants to pursue a beautiful gift of tango and sharing it with others. She teamed up with an expert, Carlos Forte-Berg, and decided to offer tango training in Zanzibar which can be complimentary combined with yoga and diving in one of the world’s most beautiful destinations, Zanzibar.
Carlos Forte-Berg is a native from Buenos Aires, Argentina. After many years of becoming a professional tango dancer himself and five-year of teaching tango in Manhattan, New York, he moved with his wife and partner, Rosa, back to Buenos Aires where they opened their first “Pasional Tango Club” in the famous Confiteria Ideal in 2000. As a proven master teacher and tango salon dancer, his goal was and will always be to build tango dancers just like they do in Buenos Aires.
The tango and yoga retreat program will be held in Flame Tree Cottages, Nungwi, Zanzibar. Zanzibar is an archipelago nestled in the Indian Ocean, a destination that is not only mysterious, but also legendary.
From this remote outpost, at the hub of the monsoon trading routes, history was enacted, journeys of discovery were planned, Sultanate empires were established, and the first medieval global village was founded. Zanzibar retains the imprint of its historic legacy in the tumbling streets of Stone Town, in the Arabic-inflected Swahili language and the rare antiques of the bazaars and markets.
