If the luxury of a 5-star establishment is what you are looking for, Tambo Ilusion might not be for you. Tambo Ilusion is not a resort, it is a "chacra", best English translation would be a farm. At Tambo Ilusion, guests sleep in "tambos", which are cozy rustic thatched cabins that are equipped with two very comfortable double beds and mosquito nets. Each tambo has a hammock hanging on its porch. The accommodation offers an electricity-free environment in the cabins, favoring the best ambiance to disconnect.
You will be provided with amenities such as clean, spacious shared bathrooms, which are separate from the rooms, and have flush toilets and hot water showers. Guests can also relax in the reading room, a round cob 'tambo' made of straw and mud (an ecological building where it is always cool) where one can lounge in a hammock and hang out.
Tambo Ilusion is dedicated to offer its guests a wonderfully rich experience at a reasonable price. Not only will you leave this detox retreat feeling recharged, refreshed, and inspired, you will also have the satisfaction of having made a difference contributing in helping Tambo Ilusion protect a small part of the Amazon jungle.
Tambo Ilusion is proud to share the award received from TripAdvisor: "Certificate of Excellence 2015". This award celebrates excellence in hospitality, and is given only to establishments that consistently achieve great traveler reviews on TripAdvisor.
Join Tambo Ilusion, at this beautiful private nature conservation project in the Amazon jungle where ongoing alternative programs are offered. In 2014, Tambo Ilusion was chosen as one of Peru's top five yoga retreat centers in a publication of El Comercio! Tambo Ilusion offers an intimate retreat experience respecting each other and nature. You can be sure to enjoy your stay!
The yoga program for the detox retreat includes 5 yoga classes of gentle yoga which includes mainly twists and stretches, a gentle low-intensity practice to compress, relax, and create space in the body for a deep detoxing experience; as well as restorative yoga and yoga Nidra, which offer the right intensity when doing a detox treatment. The yoga classes include meditation and pranayama (breathing) exercises, which are designed to help you feel better and more connected to the earth, more grounded.
The yoga classes are held in Tambo Ilusion's gorgeous yoga space which looks out on the surrounding natural beauty. The soundscape (the natural chorus of wind, birds, monkeys, insects, etc.) will transport you to a place of natural serenity deep within yourself during your practice; especially in Savasana, the final relaxation pose. Yoga props and accessories are provided.
If you have little or no yoga experience, the classes will be adapted and modified accordingly. Those who are not flexible are ideal candidates to begin a yoga practice. There is no competition involved in yoga, least of all with yourself. Everyone works from their own body awareness giving the best of themselves.
Practicing yoga, meditation, and pranayama during the cleanse is a wonderful way to help reset your body, and improve your overall health.
The environment at Tambo Ilusion allows one to detox from electro smog as the electromagnetic fields are low in the area, hence it lessens the electro-stress on your body so that it can put its resources toward healing, rather than combating environmental stressors. Plus, having no access to the internet allows a much needed pause for many.
During this detox, the focus is on cleansing the liver, the workhorse of the body. With the exception of the skin, the liver is the largest organ in the body and performs over 500 functions, far more than any other organ in the body. It is a vital organ that supports nearly every organ in the body in some facet. It is only the liver that can purify the bloodstream, and you only have one liver so come take care of your liver and yourself!
This cleanse is a simple and safe technique based on the consumption of fresh fruit extracts, superfoods, and a healthy balanced vegan and gluten-free diet to help eliminate toxins accumulated in the body due to dietary and environmental factors. This is an excellent opportunity to give the body a break from caffeine, smoking, and other damaging habits. At Tambo Ilusion, the liver cleanse technique suggested by Dr. Sacha Barrio Healey is used.
The 'detox' process is simple but a diet and schedule must be respected, which can be a challenge while living a busy life. At Tambo Ilusion, they facilitate the process of this cleanse by offering a calm environment surrounded by nature and ensuring that your diet is adequate throughout the process, that you exercise through yoga practice, swimming, walking, and so on.
The cooks will prepare healthy and balanced meals with no animal products, no fried food, no processed sugar, no cold drinks, and they will prepare the fresh fruit extracts that are used in this purification process as well as homemade fermented drinks. It takes a full 6 days to prepare the body by eating a diet high in alkaline-forming foods and low in fats to take the toxic pressure off your organs, and to be sure that your body is alkalized for the liver flush which is done on day 7.
Experience the peace that comes from practicing yoga, eating well and becoming more connected with nature. Tambo Ilusion is a private nature conservation area which belongs to the large group of Protected Natural Areas of Peru at the same rank as Pacaya Samiria national reserve, Machu Picchu sanctuary, etc. We are happy to share with our guests our unique home and the activities we do in order to achieve to live in harmony with nature in a sustainable manner. You may learn a little about beekeeping, permaculture, lombriculture, nutrition, etc. or simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings. You will also have the opportunity to take a stroll with Johanne to escort Ayla, our equine friend (our horse) to her paddock and feed her. Along the way, we'll stop at a viewpoint to enjoy a healthy drink while admiring the stunning sunset and Ayla grazing peacefully (weather permitting) . This pleasurable activity offers both the benefits of equine-imity and sunset therapies; known to be soothing for the soul. The jewel of Tambo Ilusion is its secluded fresh water lagoon which is cool and refreshing, just a joy to swim in. Relax and meditate on the dock while enjoying the chant of the birds and the murmur of the creek's running water.
Tambo Ilusion is a beautiful property of 34.6 acres, recognized by the Ministry of Environment of Peru as a Private Conservation Area for its nature conservation project. Tambo Ilusion is located in the rural area of Tarapoto, situated in the San Martin region of Peru (in the Amazon jungle). Tarapoto is the main gateway to the northeastern jungle of Peru, at an altitude of 356 meters above sea level, and it is located in the San Martn province of the San Martn region, midway between the high jungle and the Amazon plains. Tarapoto is linked to the Upper Amazon and the historic city of Yurimaguas by a relatively well-maintained newly paved (2008 - 2009) "Trans-Andean" highway.
Tarapoto is the main tourist hub of this part of Peru, and it is often used as a "jump off" point for excursions into the vast Amazon rainforest where diversity in species reaches its maximum expression, such as in Tingana and Pacaya Samiria national reserve, and for tours of the north east of Peru, including the Chachapoyas culture in Amazonas with its fascinating but not well known archaeology and history, the Gran Vilaya ruins, and the Kuelap fortress (the Machu Picchu of the north).
Furthermore, beautiful landscapes, amazing waterfalls, lagoons, orchids, adventure tourism such as river rafting and hiking in the tropical Andes, as well as bird watching attract numerous visitors to this area. Tambo Ilusion is located in the Banda de Shilcayo district which is at the eastern limit of Tarapoto city. It is near the waterfalls of Ahuashiyacu, a main attraction of the area.
Wholesome vegan and gluten-free meals are prepared three times daily. The program includes a one day juice fast. Meals are shared in Tambo Ilusion's house family style. Fruits and vegetables are fresh and seasonal. Some of the fruit come from their own trees (citrus, papayas, mangoes, bananas, star fruit, and more). Special dietary needs can be accommodated with
From Tarapoto, head towards El Distrito de la Banda de Shilcayo on the highway to Yurimaguas.
At kilometer 2.5 of highway to Yurimaguas (just past the entrance to La Laguna Venecia), there is a dirt road on the right. Take that dirt road.
You will soon come to a fork, keep right.
Tambo Ilusion is about 500 meters from that fork.
Peru is currently a very popular travel destination, so you are suggested to book early for international flights (to Lima, the capital) and domestic flights. Airport taxes and fees are now included in the price of the tickets for international as well as domestic flights.
Tarapoto is connected by air to Lima. The flight takes one hour and fifteen minutes. The distance separating both cities is 618 kilometers (384 miles). There are four airline companies that fly daily to Tarapoto (Star Peru, Taca-avianca, Peruvian, and LAN). You are recommended to book the midday flight on Star Peru. The flight from Iquitos to Tarapoto takes one hour. Star Peru and LAN offer this route daily.
There are two bus routes to get to Tarapoto:
Passing through Chiclayo, to get to Tarapoto is a 30-hour bus ride (approximately 1500 kilometers or 930 miles) on a good highway. There are two decent bus companies: Movil Tour and CIVA. To make the trip easier, look into the possibility of cutting the trip by stopping in Chiclayo, a coastal city, for a day or two as the route goes that way anyways. In Chiclayo, there are 2 important museums: Museo Nacional Tumbas Reales de Sipan and Museo Bruning. Getting to Tarapoto by bus from any town north of Lima along the Peruvian coast is relatively easy.
The other option is a bus route from Lima going through Tingo Maria. This route is about 500 kilometers less mileage than going through Chiclayo, and it takes about 23 hours. The bus goes through the Andes to get to the jungle; it passes through a city called Ticlio which is at an altitude of 4818 meters.
There is a 3-day boat ride Iquitos - Yurimaguas on the Huallaga, Maran, and Amazonas rivers. Once in Yurimaguas, take a bus to Tarapoto (a 2 hours and 30 minutes ride). You may ask the driver to drop you off at Laguna Venecia (at the kilometer 2.5 mark on the highway), and take a moto-taxi to Tambo Ilusion, or walk (1 kilometer).
