Dishes prepared for our guests: hummus with roasted vegetables, vegetarian adaptations of Peruvian dishes like squash stew with fresh corn, vegetable soup with amaranth, quinoa with sautéed vegetables and sweet potato purée,etc.

Special dietary needs can be accommodated with advanced notice. As any type of food can attract animals and insects, no food may be kept in the tambos (rooms). All food items may be kept in the kitchen.

Driving directions from Tarapoto

  • From Tarapoto head towards El Distrito de la Banda de Shilcayo on the highway to Yurimaguas.
  • At km 2.5 of the highway to Yurimaguas (just after the entrance to 'La Laguna Venecia') there is a dirt road on the right. Take that dirt road.
  • You will soon come to a fork, keep right. Tambo Ilusion is about 500 meters from that fork.

Arrival by airplane

Peru is currently a very popular travel destination so booking early is recommended for international flights to Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM) and domestic flights. Airport taxes and fees are now included in the price of the tickets for international as well as domestic flights.

Tarapoto is connected by air to Lima. You will arrive at Comandante FAP Guillermo del Castillo Paredes Airport (TPP) in Tarapoto. The flight takes one hour and fifteen minutes. The distance separating both cities is 618km (384 miles). There are four airline companies that fly daily to Tarapoto (Star Peru, Taca-avianca, Peruvian and LAN).

There is a flight from Iquitos’ international airport Coronel FAP Francisco Secada Vignetta (IQT) to Tarapoto. The flight takes one hour. Star Peru and LAN offer this route daily.

Tambo Ilusion is located 15 minutes away from the airport.

Arrival by bus

There are two bus routes to get from Lima to Tarapoto.

Passing through Chiclayo, to get to Tarapoto is a 30 hour bus ride (approx. 1500 km or 930 miles) on a good highway. There are two decent bus companies: Movil Tour and CIVA. To make the trip easier, look into the possibility of cutting the trip by stopping in Chiclayo, a coastal city, for a day or two as the route goes that way anyways. In Chiclayo, there are 2 important museums: Museo Nacional Tumbas Reales de Sipan and Museo Bruning.

The other bus option Lima-Tarapoto is a route going through Tingo Maria. This route is about 500km less mileage than going through Chiclayo, it takes about 23 hours. The bus goes through the Andes to get to the jungle, it passes through a city called Ticlio which is at an altitude of 4818 meters!

Getting to Tarapoto by bus from any town north of Lima along the Peruvian coast is relatively easy.

Arrival by moto-taxi

It takes about 15 minutes to reach us from Tarapoto center or the airport. You can take a taxi, a moto-taxi, walk or bike to Tambo Ilusion from Tarapoto. The most common way of getting around the city is by moto-taxi. Before hopping into a moto-taxi, make sure that it is not too noisy. Moto-taxis are a problem in many cities of Peru.

There are too many of them and many drivers have part of the muffler removed which is illegal. Please act like a responsible traveler by choosing a driver that respects that law, the environment and the community. If you hire a ride pre-negotiate the price. Local people can give you an idea of the rate. There have been cases of drivers charging abusive rates to unsuspecting tourists.

Arrival by boat ride

There is a 3 day boat ride Iquitos - Yurimaguas on the Huallaga, Maran and Amazonas rivers. Once in Yurimaguas, take a bus to Tarapoto (a 2.5 hour ride). You may ask the driver to drop you off at Laguna Venecia (at the km 2.5 mark on the highway) and take a moto-taxi to Tambo Ilusion or walk (1km).

For information about the booking conditions, please send Tambo Ilusion an inquiry.

" I recently spent an amazing 21 days at the Tambo Ilusion retreat in Tarapoto, Peru. My first 10 days included four sacred shaman-led Ayahuasca ceremonies with dieta and my final 8 days was a vegetarian liver detox. I would without hesitation rate my experience at Tambo Ilusion as a 10+. Just once in everyone's lifetime, they should experience the ancient healing properties of jungle plant medicine. Being unplugged from the artificial and impersonal connection to electronics is an enlightenment in itself! Getting in touch with whats truly important in life and to be able to return to our previous lives with a new perspective and transformed.......OMG! Do it. You'll see life with a newly minted set of eyes and perspective. Once may not be enough......but then, one can never overdose on love! Johanne and Armando are amazing hosts and the accommodations superb! "

"id the 5 days jungle yoga vacation retreat, I don't know where to start this review as it was 10/10 for me. It was just amazing. I wanted to do more than one retreat in a row (the vegetarian cooking retreat, the Reiki level 1 initiation retreat and the detox & yoga retreat offered at Tambo Ilusion) but I had run out of travel time. All the retreats look amazing and after visiting I want to do them even more! Tambo IIusion was beautiful and Armando and his team do an amazing job at keeping it protected and conserved. It was very inspiring to see and meet someone so dedicated to protecting and conserving his land."

"The weather was very hot (September being the hottest time of the year in this area) so don't forget some cooler clothing but also remember to bring long cloths for mosquitos. Don't forget your swimmers either because the lagoon they have is so so so relaxing, you can't not get in it!! I only wore bug spray once on the trek and only gotten bitten once by a sand fly so bonus of this area is the mosquitos aren't crazy. You just need to wear socks and long cloths early morning and early evening. The yoga was in depth and Johanne was an amazing teacher. She is so descriptive and calm. She has so much knowledge and patience to be able to create an amazing schedule for you and I can see she can customize depending on participant’s level. I have learned so much good stuff from her that will stay with me forever. I have already been to a few classes since I got back home and honestly nothing compares to Johannes teaching! I also received Reiki from Johanne which was incredible and she also “Reikied” my room after I had some bad dreams the night before."

"I had fresh lemon tea brought to my cabin each morning by Johanne which was a great start to the day. The food was amazing cooked by Daniel and Gabriella. The meals were created with love and passion, they were absolutely delicious. On my last day I also got to prepare a breakfast with Johanne and it was an amazing end to my stay. I've come home very inspired to eat better, live better and do the thing I love doing more. I’m definitely continuing my yoga practice! This experience was more than I could have asked for and I really hope to return one day! My stay at Tambo was an amazing way to finish my 5 week trip in Peru by attending the yoga retreat and delving deeply into mind body and spirit connection. I'm appreciating my experience even more now that I'm home. Would highly recommend :)"

"This has been an experience that completely answered my needs, my wants, and my desires. I searched through the USA before I found Tambo Ilusion and my heart soared with excitement. Johanne was offering a vegan retreat - and to push the envelope further, I asked for gluten free as well. There’s no stopping Johanne’s enthusiasm for great nutrition and sharing her knowledge. What a privilege to have met Johanne and Armando. People with loving hearts, strong focus and ethics. Tambo Ilusion is a beautiful conservation property. It is beautifully presented. The accommodation is incredibly comfortable. Best bed I have slept in in weeks. Coming from many thousands of miles away in the world is emotionally busy, travelling is physically challenging in its many forms. Tambo Ilusion has been the respite I needed after weeks of being on high alert in foreign lands. Here I have relaxed, unwound and rejuvenated over five days and I am ready to go on for many more weeks of travel. I have addressed physical aches and pains. Johanne organized a massage for me by a local woman. I have eaten the most delicious, nutritious meals in abundance. Never did hunger visit me here. Emotionally, I am feeling calm in a state of inner peace thanks to the yoga from Johanne. I would never hesitate to return here should I return to Peru and see my new friends for a follow-up retreat."

"Thank you, thank you, thank you for opening your loving arms, warm hearts and beautiful home with me. I arrived lost within myself and unsure of what I would discover, but I can now say with certainty that my inner light knew exactly where it was headed when it led me here to you. Each and every day here invited me to embrace nature and love and helped me to rediscover me. Johanne's demeanor, encouragement and style of teaching opened my eyes and my heart to a new side of yoga that I can not wait to incorporate into my existing practice. You have truly opened me up. The food was amazing! I can not wait to receive my recipe updates from Daniel (the cook) and a copy of Johanne's cookbook, whenever it is completed. Thank you for feeding my stomach, heart, and soul. Armando, what you have created and sustained here is especially amazing. Our hike and picnic may have been my favorite thing about my time here. I am excited to see how Tambo Ilusion continues to flourish in the future. Thanks again for your love and hospitality. I'm looking forward to visiting again."

"Tambo Ilusion is a very special place. The beautiful surroundings is enough to make worries fade away, stress to feel as if it was never yours, and it provides the peace that is desired in day to day life. I had the pleasure of completing the Reiki Level 1 course. The course is structured well providing valuable information and quality time to practice Reiki, but to also allow time to rest my mind and body. Yoga classes are included in the course and are constructed in a way that anyone of any level will benefit and enjoy these classes. The yoga room is spacious and peaceful, with access to mats, blocks, and bolsters. The meals that are offered are vegetarian, and extremely tasty! The meals are well balanced and I noticed a positive difference in my emotional and physical states. The rooms are beautiful and simple. The bed is very comfortable, there is a mosquito net around the bed which created a cozy ambiance and protected me from insects, it is also light so it allowed for a breeze keeping me cool throughout the night. Johanne and her entire team at Tambo Ilusion are very welcoming and warm creating a comfortable ambiance for the entire stay. I would and have already recommended this course to friends/family."

"Dear Johanne and Armando,Thank you for the alternate universe where even time the archer releases his arrows at a leisurely pace, where the knowledge of the Asvini twins those healers of Vedic lore are honored and carried forward through the hands of Rosa, where there is a space and a brew that can be consumed to see the visions of the universe, where the lack of electricity awakens the light within, where the food prepared by Daniel and Gabriela make the gods lick their lips in envy, where the yoga sessions bring the mind and body together to enjoy the experience without resistance. And most of all thank you for your presence and attention. For as a wise man in India once said, attention is love."

"I highly recommend this relaxing and rustic jungle getaway. Not only are Johanne and Armando wonderful and caring but they are also wealths of knowledge regarding nutrition, health and nature conservation. If you are looking for a place to get away from the backpacker crowd and immerse yourself in a rejuvenating, slower pace of life, Tamboilusion is the place for you. Perfect for healing, grounding, being healthy, or just giving your body some good old R & R in the Peruvian jungle.Situated on a large plat of land outside Tarapoto, Peru, you immediately feel as if you've entered a different sort of rhythm than city/town-life. Five lovely thatched roof house or Tambos (two queen/king beds in each, mosquito netting, hammocks, lanterns and candles - no electricity) serve as your home while staying at Tambo Ilusion. THere are shared bathrooms above and below on the hill the tambos are situated on. Birdsongs, monkey chatter, roosters crowing and a medley of insect and frog voices serve as your background music while you swing in your hammock or swim in the lagoon. This was my second time back to Tambo Ilusion. The first time, earlier this year, I went for a lovely 5 day yoga retreat where I was relaxed and rejuvenated and heard about the 8-day liver detox that Johanne does. I came back for this this November.I felt incredible - during and after the liver detox. Johanne takes so much care and is very organized and detail-oriented with your nutrition throughout the week. We always ate incredible food (despite there being no gluten, lactose, meat, salt, sugar....) and I never felt hungry. She also teaches a yoga class each day, a great way to detox. Yet the heights to which my body felt better afterwards were incredible. The only downside to Tamboilusion (like any jungle getaway) is the bugs. You will come back with a few bug bites here and there. This is great if you want an off the beaten path relaxing jungle getaway, but be prepared for shared bathrooms and no electricity in your tambo. As long as your expectations are not that of a 5 star resort, then you will be pleased. I highly recommend Tambo Ilusion!"

"What an experience!!! Tambo Ilusion is a magical place. I came for an 8 day yoga liver detox/cleanse. Cleanses can be such an awful experience but Johanne works her magic behind the scenes and makes it seem so easy. The meals are amazing you are never hungry. The yoga at sunset in the yoga studio was my favorite way to end the day. Joanne has an amazing gift of making you feel so relaxed during the sessions. It is hard to capture all the positive changes that have happened to me during the 8 day cleanse. The biggest for me was that I was able to quit drinking coffee that alone would be enough but no there is so much more. Normally, I start my day by taking an allergy pill but here at Tambo Ilusion, I was able to go a whole week without taking one pill. Those two alone would have been enough for me but there is more my skin feels better, I know the true meaning of relaxation, I know I can be satiated with no fat in my food, no shoulder soreness from using a computer and learned to really enjoy the jungle rhythm. There is no set schedule half an hour before breakfast and lunch you get fresh squeezed apple juice that is how you know when to go for your meal. Dinner is after yoga finishes or your Reiki session is over but not on a clock. That is what I mean by jungle rhythm. Typically I was in my hammock reading or at the lagoon swimming so it was not hard to find me. Sleeping was another amazing experience. It is rare to find sheets that have been line dried and smell like fresh air but that is what you smell as you climb into bed.I arrived feeling bloated and tired and I am leaving feeling energized and calm. I think I lost a few pounds in the process which is always a nice bonus!!! Everyone should have this amazing experience. Book your retreat ASAP so you can have your own experience. It is amazing!!"

"Once in a lifetime experience, Ill be going back! There's a few places that I have experienced in my life time that I can say have truly changed my life. In the 5 days that I spent at Tambo Illusion with Jo and Armando with my love, my life changed through the amazing, healthy vegetarian cooking and gentle yoga classes twice a day with learning deeply about my yoga practice. As an intermediate Ashatangi, practicing 5 times a day week, Jo's classes were deeply informative and taught me how to bring deeper alignment to my practice. I thoroughly loved her classes and her gentle guidance on how to continuously improve. I highly recommend the yoga retreat to anyone who is interested in learning more about themselves in a relaxing, beautiful environment. The reason why I chose Tambo Illusion is because it looks like a really authentic place in the jungle with still the comfort of a high quality hotel. Everything is perfectly clean, comfortable, with the chance to take your mind off all your troubles and truly relax. I've never felt so refreshed in my life!! My favorite part of the stay was Jo and Armando! Armando has such a deep passion for this land, as he has cultivated it for the last 30 years.During our long hike, we learned a lot about the jungle and explored. He took us to his secret spot which was so relaxing and fun to dip into the water. Jo is truly a magical, loving women with so many skill-sets. After eating her clean, vegetarian meals, that were better than anything I've ever cooked before, I'm inspired to learn more about healthy eating. If you have the chance to try out her cooking class, you will learn more than you ever imagined. The fact that she has so many creative, unique ingredients in the jungle is truly a surprise!!! We had long talks for hours and I learned so much about myself. I love Tambo Illusion and I will be back with family and close friends. What a magical oasis!"

"My girlfriend and I did a weeklong yoga retreat with Johanne in the jungle. It was honestly one of the most restorative weeks of my life and we cannot thank Armando and Johanne enough for our hospitality. If you're looking for a ritzy, pampered stay at a resort, this is not the place for you. But if you enjoy immersing yourself in nature and the company of good people, I would highly recommend coming to Tambo Ilusin. The staff made themselves only as available as was necessary so that when we wanted to be alone, we felt completely alone, yet when we wanted connection and interaction, someone was always there to help. I could probably write this entire review about the food if I wanted, but let's just say it was absolutely incredible and extremely healthy. I'm not a vegetarian by any standard, but I did not consume one ounce of meat and was absolutely satisfied at every meal. Also, not only did I not lack energy.I actually felt more energetic during my time there. I would love to come back and do a cooking retreat with Johanne, just to learn how to make all of her delicious recipes. Looking forward to the next time we visit."

"First I must profess that I am not much of a cook but for some time I have wanted to gain knowledge on a vegetarian diet that meets the bodys dietary requirements. Jo taught me all that and more. I enjoyed my time in her kitchen as I felt relaxed in her presence, a feeling I dont often associate with the kitchen! As well as teaching me the basics, I learned a lot about maximising the benefits of all the foods we worked with, most of which I never even knew. Jo is honestly an encylopedia on vegetarian living, be it the benefits or the downfalls you need to watch for. I appreciate this honesty as it means I now have a bunch of delicious recipes to start with, as well as knowing how to look after myself when I eventually switch back to life without meat! Thank you Jo, it was a pleasure being in your kitchen and company."

"Tambo Ilusion was the perfect place to take friends that had never visited the Amazon. We left Lima at 4 p.m. and by sunset we were already swimming in their lake. When we woke up Armando and Johanne took the best care of us: a yoga session, followed up by tasty and healthy food and a short walk through the forest left us with our senses completely awakened. I deeply recommend this place because by visiting Tambo Ilusion we are also supporting a nature conservation project based on healing our minds, bodies and spirits! Thanks again."

  • "The experience I had in Tambo illusion was the climax of my vacation. I had read great comments about the place but arriving there, was at another level of greatness. For me, it had everything you need for a yoga retreat and even more. I arrived the first day from Lima really tired and overwhelmed. The first minutes on the site of Tambo illusion are just like arriving in paradise with the small lake with the purest water, with the small cabana and an amazing hammock just outside to chill out after lunch or whenever you feel like sleeping. And the profound peace and quiet are just amazing.Johanne and Armando are the two kindest person I ever meet, they make you feel like home, are interested in knowing you and they will show you their land and the nicest place to walk in the nature. Johanne is an excellent chef, making the most fabulous vegetarian food. She is also an amazing yoga teacher really devoted to the practice and to teach meditation and yoga in a really caring and loving way. Thanks so much for the unforgettable experience!!!"

I thoroughly enjoyed the vegan meals, yoga classes, mornings in the hammock, and afternoons swimming in the refreshing lagoon. Johanne and Armando are a wonderfully friendly couple who will make you feel welcome. If you are looking for a vacation spot where you can achieve full relaxation and peace, this is the place. It's a good option if you desire to disconnect from the outside world and escape from the busyness of life."

"It has been 3 months since my stay with Johanne and Armando at their beautiful property. I miss the tranquility of the their land and friendly company. My experiance was nothing but extraordinary. It is a topic of conversation family, friends and people I meet. I will never forget my time at Tambo Ilusion. Upon arriving Johanne had a delicious quinoa quiche prepared for a late dinner. Her culinary skills are fantastic. Every meal she prepared had her own unique twist. I really hope she finishes her cookbook someday. I will buy it as soon as its published. She practiced yoga with me twice. Teaching me how to properly do a mountain pose and a savasana pose that can put me right to sleep. She is an inspirational woman who treated me like a king during my stay.Armando taught me about plants and animals as we walked the land. He is doing a great service for Mother Earth by conserving that precious jungle. You can tell it is his passion to give back to something that provides us all so much. An environmental steward of the land with earth ethics. I was touched by the diligent work he has accomplished. While there I ate amazing food. Slept comfortably in the tambos. Saw monkeys playing in the palms. Parrots talking in the trees. Napped in the hammock. Luxuriated in the spring fed lagoon. Spent time with two fascinating people. Created a memory that I hope to continue, on a future visit, soon."

"My stay at Tambo Ilusion was great. The place is very quiet, surrounded by pure nature and operated by very nice people, Johanne and Armando. My yoga classes were nice and long with lots of new inputs from Johanne. The meditation sessions were also helpful and it really made a difference to the whole experience. The trip was exactly what I needed, full of great information, far away from the civilization without the noise of everyday life.Thank you for introducing the Tambo Ilusion to me."

"I travel extensively, and have never been to a place like Tambo Ilusion. Coming from a big city, the quiet and tranquility were unnerving at first. Very quickly the feeling turned to relaxation and inner peace like I have not experienced before. The meals were great, Johanne and Armando are wonderful people willing to freely share their experiences and their vast knowledge of the land, yoga, healthy eating and many other things. Had the great pleasure of meeting Chris who is a wealth of knowledge on horticulture and great company.I came back very relaxed mentally and physically, lost a few pounds of weight (I was doing a liver detox), and with a new outlook on life. Definitely bring bug spray, and light long sleeved shirts!"

"After completing a yoga teacher training I visited Tambo with two of my classmates. It was the perfect place to unplug, relax, and reconnect. Joanne has a fantastic menu full of variety and nutrition. We had delicious food and learned new recipes. Our yoga classes were wonderful. We practiced various styles of yoga and learned new practice techniques for both asanas and meditation. Joanne and Armando are leading an excellent example for all of us by preserving biodiversity in the jungle and sharing their space and knowledge with their guests. It was a true pleasure to visit Tambo."

"Wow, what an amazing time spent in a beautiful oasis under the care of beautiful people. I am so grateful to have found Tambo Ilusion. I left this special place a changed person. I came for the level 1 Reiki initiation, which was above and beyond what I imagined it to be. Johanne's knowledge and passion for this healing energy is contagious. I truly appreciate her sharing such a wonderful healing art and am so excited to continue practicing (mostly on myself but also on others, on animals, and plants) to strengthen the Reiki connection to become more familiar with the energys nuances. The process of the Reiki initiation ceremony was quite magical. I felt a profound connection with Johanne and the energy she was attuning me to during the 4 separate attunements. It is a powerful yet wonderfully gentle and nurturing energy. And what a wonderful environment to receive such a gift. I am beyond grateful and so happy I did this for myself. As I discovered with Johanne, you are giving yourself a lifelong gift of healing through this initiation ceremony and when you heal yourself and assist others with their self-healing you heal the Earth. You do make a difference.I would definitely recommend this program to anyone interested in learning this spiritual practice of healing which consists in awakening the power of your healing hands. Becoming a Reiki practitioner is fun and it is easy to learn. Plus, it was such a delight to spend time in the kitchen with Johanne and to learn endless bits of knowledge on healthy cooking, kitchen tips, and amazing natural remedies.Johanne and Armando have put a lot of love into their land and project and it shows. The tranquil and beautiful lagoon, the forest, the cozy tambos (cabins) and the super comfortable beds, the amazing vegetarian cuisine, the lovely space where the Reiki training took place, etc.The cleansing baos de plantas at the end of the initiation were a definite treat And I can't forget the yoga! Perfect. Johanne's presence and voice are so calming and inviting. I experienced beautiful moments in the yoga space (called the maloca) which is a gorgeous rounded structure, very spacious and the spectacular view of the jungle is wonderful for centering. It was fantastic to look out onto the lush surroundings while holding a restorative pose; a perfect complement to the Reiki training. The practice of Reiki and yoga do go hand in hand. I felt so grounded and relaxed.Thank you Johanne and Armando for sharing your home, providing the perfect setting for this amazing journey and for the vibrant and healing energy of Tambo Ilusion. This rewarding experience has significantly empowered me to influence my own life in a most positive direction. Gracias!"

"When trying to book for our first yoga retreat, my wife and I were unsure of what to look for. Tambo Ilusion's description, daily itinerary, and photos did a just and accurate job of preparing us for what would become one of the most relaxing stays of our lives. Johanne's evening yoga sessions were thorough, meditative, and centering. She had an excellent knowledge and understanding of alignment, and helped us to learn ways to enrich our practice well beyond the retreat. The space used for class was clean, calming, and visually stunning. With the compound nestled in the jungle, we had a constant and pleasing background of forest sounds with fresh air abound. Our time off the mat was spent reading, coloring mandalas, hiking, or eating amazing meals. Speaking for myself, I have never felt more balanced and energized by food than with Johanne's cooking (or non-cooking in the case of her inventive raw preparations). We also really enjoyed our long talks with Armando, learning more about the jungle than I could possibly absorb. His 30+ years mission to reforest the land has become an inspiring success story that is worth spreading. Nature walks on the property and through the adjoining hills give an appreciation to Peru's natural resources that could otherwise be lost or taken for granted if not for Armando's lucid perspective. We hope to see Tambo Illusion's lifework continue to thrive. And we hope to visit again, but this time we'll bring all our friends."

"We felt very warmly received. Our time at Tambo Ilusion was utterly relaxed. It was as if we were having a vacation from our vacations, a kind of meta-vacation. We will return home energized and with great peace of mind. It was beautiful that Johanne had prepared a special yoga program around Hennys pregnancy. Our little one, still without a name, has every reason to be greatful. The food kept surprising us as well. We had more vitamins here than during our complete stay in Peru before our arrival at Tambo Ilusion. Thanks again for everything."

"Thank you to Johanne and Armando for sharing their beautiful home and energy with us. Tambo Ilusion is a magical place with a high vibration. I loved being in nature but at the same time having some comforts like a comfortable bed and plumbing in the bathrooms. The food is amazing! Johanne is a great cook and puts so much time and love into preparing each meal and its obvious by both the presentation and taste of the food. The yoga classes are inspiring and relaxing I liked the holistic approach weaving yogic philosophy with the postures. The restorative classes were my favorite and left me with a deep sense of well-being.Armando was wonderful in making sure we were able to do everything we wanted. He arranged an onsite Ayahuasca ceremony and massages the next day. He led us on a beautiful hike to the cascades. The week here has been beyond my expectations and was exactly what I needed as I end my 3 month in Peru and head back to the U.S. I am full of gratitude and love for Johanne, Armando and Tambo Ilusion for an incredible experience which has nourished my soul."

"The yoga vacation was a fantastic and highly worthwhile experience! My partner and I completed the 5-day Yoga Retreat at Tambo Ilusion and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Johanne and Armando were fantastic hosts - Johanne was a great yoga instructor (during twice daily two hour sessions) and provided us with lots of nutritional information (her cooking is amazing!).Armando helped us to get to know his property and the surroundings with passionate gusto. We also had another couple complete the course with us and we thoroughly enjoyed their company. The environment is warm and tropical which suited us well. It's hard to explain the sensation of finishing a session of yoga in their huge thatched roof hut, feeling calm and relaxed, and opening your eyes to look out upon the jungle rainforest with the bird sounds in the background. After a couple of afternoon sessions we would quickly head up to their freshwater spring lagoon and get a swim in as the light faded. Its a magical place which Armando has re-vegetated after being destroyed by cattle farming. Overall, we loved it and would highly recommend!"

"My detox program experience at Tambo Ilusin was fascinating. Unexpectedly fascinating and a life changing experience. There are several factors contributing to such results in only a week and it certainly also depends on your very own contribution, the situation in your life and your efforts or interest in turning this into a spiritual experiment, as well, but even if it was just for the physical experience, it surely is intense and liberating.Being in the jungle, enjoying the purity of nature, living back to basics for that week, listening to that sound of nature, being detoxed from toxic food but also from technology and electricity and from company (when doing a detox, Tambo Ilusin accepts maximum 2 guests, including you!), eating such healthy food and learning about its benefits, having 1:1 yoga lessons, Reiki sessions and meditation, swimming in the lagoon, receiving advice from Johanne and Armando (both being adventurers with a lot of courage and wisdom), and having them both focus 100% on your well-being and realizing they are selecting information, articles, stories, videos, music, meals, exercises, advice JUST for you..all of that teaches you valuable lessons and will make a difference in your life.As I have been in a time of change in my life at this point, of course, I was very receptive for the program and its side effects. For anybody who also happens to be in a crisis, I highly recommend a retreat such as this one. The Chinese character for crisis is composed of 2 sub-characters, by the way: One that spells danger and another that spells opportunity. :-) Make the most of this opportunity! Tambo Ilusion is not a 5-star SPA retreat. Its the opposite because it is so back to basic. Pure. But its still luxury. Its luxury because its 100% personal and its a spot thats priceless with its secluded fresh water lagoon. And its very, very reasonable for what you get (just think about all those daily personal training of yoga and meditation, the 2 Reiki sessions and herbal baths, and THEN all the food incl. pricey super foods) and what you get out of it as a long-term result."

Stretching my sore backpacker-body and calming my wandering mind.Johanne and Armando have truely created a magical space with so much potential for learning and healing. Everyday I would have two hour and thirty minute practices with Johanne in the most beautiful studio I've ever been in. With one flickering candle and the company of fire flies I became re-centered.Included as well was a herbal bath in the stream flowing from the lagoon, a Reiki session and a hike through the jungle. "I had a very warm and hearty welcome at Tambo Ilusion. After my arrival, I had the chance of tasting one of the delicious dishes I would enjoy during the whole week. The cabins are simple but cosy and very clean. Even the lack of warm water wasnt an issue, at the contrary. Youll enjoy it after a sweaty and interesting walk thru the forest or a yoga class.Besides the varied and healthy food, the spectacular site of Tambo Ilusion is unforgettable. The small lagoon allows you to swim every day in the freshest water and observe the fauna and flora, like colorful birds, butterflies, and even turtles.Important of course are the yoga classes, they were just great. Not a class like the other, always something new to learn, very varied, and Johanne is a very competent teacher. Shes able to adapt the class to every student and gives you advises for any situation / request. Not only on the yoga mat is Johanne a great source of knowledge, but also on nutrition and health. Go, enjoy and learn! My unforgettable and most spectacular moment: observe monkeys playing in the trees during yoga class, wow!"

"I have stayed at Tambo Ilusion from Monday the 21st till Friday the 25th of April, 2014.My time at Tambo Ilusion was an experience that went far beyond my expectations. I have never felt so relaxed, energized, and inspired, all at the same time. It is a perfect place to be introduced to the world of yoga and learn about a lifestyle aimed at living together with nature. After having left the jungle, I feel I am well supplied with the foundational background of yoga and mediation practices, and I am armed against any kind of stress I might encounter when returning to the working bee life in Europe again.Although the main focus of the retreat was yoga, a practice that, at the time, was new to me, there was much more to it. Tambo Ilusion is blooming with activities and opportunities to connect with nature, yourself and come down again. After and in between the 2 hours of yoga classes, I enjoyed swimming in the natural lake, a class in apicultura (bee keeping), a Reiki massage and a guided tour through the jungle, the house's back garden. The hospitality that Johanne and Armando offer is of a rare kind. The warmth and care they have for their guests comes so naturally, you feel like royalty at your friend's home. The spacious tambo (little hut) I stayed in, was equipped with a very comfortable big double bed and hammocks outside. A great treat after an intense day of yoga, super food and walks through the jungle. The cooking is delicious and fresh. Johanne knows a lot about nutrition and enjoys sharing her knowledge, recipes and food experiences. I tried many dishes, fruits, seeds and shakes I had never had before and I learned much about their various qualities. While enjoying these culinary creations, I have had many great and inspiring conversations. Their enthusiasm and passion for Tambo Ilusion and everything else they do, is very contagious. The beautiful jungle surroundings with fireflies and a nocturnal orchestra of birds, monkeys, and crickets at night, gave the entire stay a magical touch. I am very grateful I visited this yoga retreat and I would recommend it to anyone. It has been a highlight of my time in South America!"

"I can highly recommend Tambo Ilusion for anyone interested in yoga, permaculture or simply a tranquil holiday retreat. We have spent the last 5 days in the lush jungle surrounds, which offer a perfect setting for reflection and clarity of mind. The space is dotted with rustic looking tambos, a picturesque lagoon, a reading room with plenty of hammocks, and an elegant maloca for yoga practice. The tambos are provided with super cosy beds with mosquito screens, shelves with candles and plenty of hammocks - in short, warm, inviting and comfortable. The maloca is particularly special - it is grand in size, and the panoramic view gives it a serene and calming aura. The perfect space for a yoga session.Armando and Johanne are gracious hosts, offering a warm welcome and an invitation to their family life. We were treated to generous breakfast, lunches and dinners. Johanne has a passion for vegetarian cooking and nutrition, and it is possible I learned as much about these two topics as I did about yoga. The food was delicious and high in energy, and definitely contributed to my feeling of wellbeing at Tambo. We are not looking forward to returning to the world of normal food! It was also lovely to be involved in the conversation and to learn about life at Tambo - the story of the property, Armando`s vision of the place, and the life stories of both of the hosts. The loveable cat Mishii is also worth a mention for his highly amusing and adorable behavior.Johanne was a warm and inviting teacher of yoga. We were beginners, but never felt shy in asking a question or clarification. Her soothing voice is calming and particularly suited for guided meditation. There is also a clarity of instruction which was very welcoming. We undertook 1.5 hour sessions twice per day, which is quite a significant amount of time in the maloca. As beginners it was great to spend so much time practicing, and to have so much tranquility in which to reflect on the practice. We feel we have a good foundation now to continue practicing the poses and also motivated to find a teacher at home. She is also a practitioner of Reiki and introduced us to this form of healing in a session at the maloca.Armando has done an amazing job with the property at Tambo and guided us on a walk through the property, including the rainforest. His passion for learning, and the earth, plants and wildlife at Tambo shone through as he explained the relationship between everything on the property and the work involved (and still to come!) in shaping it into such a beautiful retreat. It was so refreshing to see someone so dedicated to nature, with such high ambitions and such a commitment to making the place reach its potential. He is also a keen apiculturist and is committed to permaculture - anyone with an interest in these fields would draw a lot of inspiration from a conversation with Armando.I will not hesitate to recommend this place to my family and friends. It is sad to leave, but I have no doubt I will be back. Tambo Ilusion is a paradise - the surrounds are perfectly complementary to the yoga practice you undertake in the maloca. There is a definite romance to the place - not to be missed."

"My experience at Tambo Ilusion was absolutely wonderful. I am a relative beginner and Jo made sure all the sessions were just right for me - she is a fantastic and attentive teacher, and also a completely brilliant host! The maloca where the yoga sessions are held is a beautiful space which Jo and Armando built themselves and looks out over the surrounding rainforest. While yoga is the main focus of the week, there is a lot more to staying at Tambo Ilusion. The afternoon hike to a waterfall was spectacular, and the private lagoon is a lovely place to swim during free time. Jo is very knowledgeable about nutrition, and her cooking is wonderful. And the Reiki session - the first for me - was great! Jo and Armando are particularly keen to make sure that every guest gets the most out of being there, so each day can be tailored to your preferences - there is no pressure. Every day I was there I felt healthier and more peaceful - the yoga and meditation practice, coupled with the beautiful environment, warm reception from Jo and Armando, and delicious wholesome food, (plus super comfy bed in cosy cabin!), really made a difference to me and I left feeling restored and positive. It seemed a little daunting flying off to Peru and going straight into the jungle, but all my fears were allayed as soon as I arrived. I was collected from the airport as arranged beforehand and taken straight to the retreat where Jo had lunch prepared. Straight away I was made to feel right at home, and when I left at the end of the week I really felt I was leaving friends behind! My week at Tambo Ilusion was a hugely positive experience, and I've come home recommending it to many of my friends and family. If you're considering it, I say go for it - you won't regret it!"

"I have to admit, I was a bit nervous at first. I thought "a yoga retreat? But I'm only a beginner. What if I can't keep up? But The yoga classes at Tambo Ilusion are specifically designed for what ever level you are at. Johanne, the yoga instructor will cater specifically to your needs. I fell in love with yoga while at this retreat. It was so relaxing and yet there was always something to do whether you want to take a dip in the pond on the property, hike to the river near the town, go on nature walks, or just lounge around in the hammocks. This retreat lets you choose how adventurous, relaxing, or vigorous you want it to be. The food is to die for vegetarian, or vegan food. There are also plenary of fresh fruits surrounding you on the property, if you are willing to compete with the monkeys a little. I tried cacao fruit, which was my favorite, although there is not much meat in it. It has a similar taste to bananas. Guaba fruit, which is a sweet fluffy melt in your mouth fruit, and there are plenty more including mangoes, papayas, plantains, and much more. You will find yourself falling asleep to the sound of musical jungle animals at night. This music is way better than any chirping noises you'll find on iTunes. All in all the Tambo Ilusin experience is definitely one worth having."

"This retreat was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The beauty of the surroundings is breathtaking. Days are filled with hiking, yoga, beautiful scenic views, swimming in rivers, and relaxing on hammocks. To do yoga in the natural element of the jungle has always been one of my dreams. Johanne is an excellent yoga teacher with years of experience, knowledge, and training. Her classes focus on alignment of the body.We began class each day with a light meditation and moved on to a more structured yoga session. After each yoga class I felt my body was more in-line and I was more aware of my posture and my overall being in the world. Each class put me into a blissful state of relaxation. Classes are gentle yet detailed and good for all levels of yoga.Included in the retreat are three deliciously prepared vegetarian meals. These meals have to be made with love or they would never be so good. I am not a vegetarian but very much enjoy healthy food that taste good too. The food at this retreat went beyond my expectations. Freshly prepared every day with a variety of different options, Johanne's cooking left me feeling fully nourished. Johanne and Armando were excellent hosts, their love for nature, yoga, and well-being made this fully inclusive retreat one I will never forget."

"Thank you so much Johanne and Armando! Our stay at Tambo Ilusin was the cherry on the top of our vacation around Peru. The natural quality of the energy here (the birds, monkeys, the beautiful sounds of nature, the laguna, etc.) allowed us to have a restful and restorative end for our vacation. Being around your passion for nature, food, and yoga is inspiring. Both Philippe and I appreciate your hospitality and maybe if Im lucky, Philippe will build me a beautiful Maloca (yoga room) like yours. I hope that one day Ill be able to come back with one of my yoga groups to do a retreat; if not, Im looking forward to coming back again in the future to see how Tambo Ilusin has evolved. Good luck and again thank you."
